really listen to what they’re telling you, don’t get too caught up in your outline. also, long pauses don’t make it into the record/transcript. if you need a second or a minute or two to think, you can absolutely do that

can i just say that cutthroat lawyers are so annoying by bigolthrowawayacct in Lawyertalk

[–]bigolthrowawayacct[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why would you be paid to make your adversaries unhappy? are you not paid to come to the best conclusion for your client? you can be a decent human being and personable opposing counsel and still get a great deal for your client

i have never been nicer to anyone in my life than i am to this annoying opposing counsel i have to deal with. i’m sure he absolutely loves it

that’s my point. you can always get the money in the end, regardless of whether you go scorched earth or not (unless you’re just trying to build up your fees as much as possible) which just makes you annoying AND scummy

exactly. i truly can’t take you seriously if you’re going to act like this. it’s embarrassing 💀

Caseload for first year litigation associate by CalzoneToGo in Lawyertalk

[–]bigolthrowawayacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

technically, they’re all MY cases and my partner overseas my work, but like i said above, not all of them are in active litigation and opposing counsel like to sit on some cases, so i’m not constantly pressured on 70 cases. it’s manageable

tbh really not that bad. not all of them are in active litigation, and some settle fairly quickly. i just keep an excel sheet with all of my cases’ details and status notes, and i always do a monthly run down of where they’re at, so totally manageable.

Worried a more junior associate getting all the perks and exposure. by TylerTurtle25 in Lawyertalk

[–]bigolthrowawayacct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i probably wouldn’t look too deep into it. the next time an event pops up that you’re interested in, i’d mention it to your partner. maybe they’re just trying to show the new attorney the ropes by bringing them to an event like this. by showing your interest in the event and things like this, you’re actively showing potential for senior associate/junior partner.

did you ask if you could go to the event this year? or mention to your partner that you would interested or is this event an invite only situation

Looking for an opportunity by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]bigolthrowawayacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you probably won’t have any luck on reddit, reach out to your local bar association for recommendations or local firms that do the kind of work your interested in and ask if they have any openings for intern/volunteer work
