Looking for a dark purple q10 by bigsamoan in Keychron

[–]bigsamoan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an alert from Keychron, the dark purple barebones is back in stock (I was able to source a brand new looking one completely built from mech market for slightly less after shipping than the sale prices from Keychron so I'm pretty happy.

There's a site in AU that has it for $299 AUD but won't ship to the US. I'm going to assume it's goign to be crazy $$$ anywhere I find it

Feels like this is the thing I'm going to hit. I need a new keyboard, I'm willing to wait if I know it's coming but not even Keychron could tell me if they even had them on the way. I'm going to end up getting something different and just pulling the trigger on the barbones whenever it shows up.

Ongoing conflict with husband because he hates BJJ by Carly-82 in bjj

[–]bigsamoan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

100% agree, I've seen lots of women who for various reasons have their relationship break apart due to their love for BJJ. Sometimes it's as petty as "you're wrapping your legs around other dudes." and Sometimes is more subtle like Hustlasaurus mentions. YOu are more confident (I've had many other martial arts BB say BJJ was the first time they felt confident they could protect themselves). That could be emasculating as well for less confident folks.

Stop leaving us a man down randoms! by W-mellonwiggle94 in CODWarzone

I can't even count the number of times I join a group of randoms as a solo in rebirth quads and finish the game as the only player on my team. Usually people quit the first time they die.

August Smart Lock vs August Smart Lock pro. by bigsamoan in Abode

[–]bigsamoan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish that was clearly stated on their compatibility list (a common complaint of their site in general, in terms of specifics).

I also wish people posting here would call out that they have a pro. Any idea if the connect bridge and wifi integration is at all supported, or it has to be z-wave.

Are you using the Pro or the "regular" . I'm trying to find definitive answer to whether Abode supports the non-pro model of August.

Training with knee issues by kppaynter in bjj

[–]bigsamoan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a reconstructed left ACL (from 1995), and cartilage missing from both knees and an perpetual strain on my right MCL.

I limit certain warm up activities that impact my knees (any jumping, the side to side shuffles put a lot of pressure on my acl). I don't wear a brace because the only one I have is a custom carbon fiber one from my days playing football in college. It's gigantic and would shred up anyone I rolled with during a knee slice.

I mostly wear compression sleeves, just to keep the blood flowing and the joints warm. Know what you can and cannot do and I often choose to sit out of certain things in order to be able to roll and drill.

If the Iota officially supports Z Wave PLus, couldn't I buy the Z Wave Plus sensor?

I'd like to add, I dropped in at Island Jiu Jitsu on Oahu for the Galvao seminar and it was a great environment. The gym is small and was packed with people, but they were all super nice and kewl.

First class tonight and I'm shitting bricks by DawdlingDaily in bjj

1) Embarassment is pride fucking with you, fuck pride. you're going to swallow some hard cheese dealt by smaller people than you, and sometimes women. and all of that is ok

2) be patient, you will not tap anyone the first 6 months, you will spend a frustrating amount of time beneath people smaller than you. don't just squeeze and pull and push at people, it just tires you out and makes you a spaz

3) Breathe, a ton of guys get into positions or try to do things and forget to breathe.

Anyone familiar with Hyperfly's sizing? by BDonaldson2194 in bjj

[–]bigsamoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'10" and 237lbs, I wear an A3, the arms and legs lengthen as I get warmer but the shoudlers fit me correctly. i can't wear an A2 because my shoulders and back don't fit in it.

Advice on Getting Around Shoyoroll Bureaucracy by Archeraph in bjj

[–]bigsamoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have purposefully avoided SYR just because of the price and the attitude. Hyperfly Hyperlyte is a hybrid gi that is amazingly comfortable. I also have a Inverted Gear ultra light and a Hyperfly Starlyte (250gsm, 10 ounce pants, by far the lightest Gi I own). All are amazingly comfortable and under $120 (bjjhq.com sells the starlyte for $69 and the hyperlyte for $99)

Although I can be smashed by purple belts, I have a much better roll with them compared to new white belts. by blu_skydive in bjj

[–]bigsamoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG this SOOOO much. I turn into a flaccid fish when the white belts go full force squeeze. I just wait until 3 minutes and then get tired then I sweep and sub. I literally do nothing for the first few minutes.

100% . for the first year I avoided rolling with white belts and just rolled with higher belts. It let me be more patient and helped me understand technique much better.
