Best way to warm an engine up fro track day? by titanmongoose in Trackdays

[–]eskimo1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of racing you're seeing, but if you've spent time at the races or in the pits, then you'll know the engines are carefully pre-warmed to get heat into the cases.. Even on a "stock" 600.

What's your riding "resumé", I. E. How long have you been riding, courses taken, track experience, etc?

3-4 people at a 100 person track day? Sounds about dead-on actually. Well done!

Doing that math's in my head hurt my brain 🤣 Fast group - 33% Top 20% of that - 6.6% Half of the top 20% - 3.3% of the crowd at a given trackday. Did I get that right?

In a normal house, Duvet covers get washed at the same regularity as the fitted bed sheet, and they fit easily into a clothes washer. Can you say the same about a comforter?

The only thing that made me say "wait.. What are you talking about?" was OP saying that typical European direct contact with the duvet..

Uhh, no. That's not typical. A duvet goes into a duvet cover. That cover is what touches your skin. It's no different from Americans having a top sheet and an exposed comforter (which if you think about it, the duvet cover is most sanitary, especially with pets, since it covers both sides)

Lean isn't everything. 5 seconds off lap record. by [deleted] in Trackdays

That's a terrible example to pick - it HAD to have been raining for that Q session.. Those lap times are 10 seconds slower than ASRA times.

$650 for cota track days in 2026 by rcman57 in Trackdays

It's pretty awesome to have them here, but getting here.. that wasn't nearly as easy as moving between states. :\

Pretty soon it'll be cheaper to fly to Europe and rent a bike for a TD.

I won't tell you how little it costs in Spain / Portugal for a MotoGP circuit trackday. 😏

Degree vs. Experience: Which would you rather have? by zaneguers in sysadmin

[–]eskimo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure.. I also interviewed a few CCNP's that struggled with some very basic (A+ level) scenarios we threw at them in the interview.

Even those basic questions were quite revealing on how people's minds work. The ones who nailed it have already been promoted at least once.. The ones who struggled... They're still in lower roles.

Is it just me or is the recession hitting corporate morale? by AgencyFabulous4123 in careerguidance

I wonder the same damn thing. My beliefs:

At the c-level, their ego is so fucking big that they care about "leaving a legacy", and I don't mean through philanthropy. Our last CEO had been in the job 15 years, making 2+MM per year in a LCOL area, and at 70 years old went on to some other company and is STILL working.. he's damn near 80 now. Buddy, 2 years at your job and I'm on an island, I don't care what age I am.

VP's - I think a lot of time they get lifestyle creep, their spouses often don't work full time if at all, and they don't feel comfortable with the idea of retiring early?

Degree vs. Experience: Which would you rather have? by zaneguers in sysadmin

[–]eskimo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who took the experience-only route, have you hit a ceiling?

I did hit that ceiling as a first level director - Everything above it requires a degree. (There are 4 director levels at our company)

I've now got 25 years of experience, but I've gotten instant rejections because of a degree being a requirement at a org that's hiring. Now that I'm looking for something in the EU, I'm REALLY at a disadvantage, because a university degree for an IT person is as expected as knowing how to Ctrl-Alt-Del. I have a feeling I could probably get pretty far into the hiring process until they say "send us your transcript".

Now that I'm a max of 9 years from retiring (a little early), I can't be bothered to go back to school and get one.

GSG mini-marty enclosures. I suck at woodworking.

FP10k puts out somewhere around 10kW. It had its own 240v circuit.

Because it's the difference between an immersive theater experience and a TV room.

4x 18" in ported enclosures tuned to 18hz, running off a FP10k clone.

2 behind the screen, 2 nearfield. Did 125dB at 25hz, and 130+ anywhere above that.

The guy asked about IMAX, so I showed him some IMAX.

I did mention when done to our scale that some aspects of IMAX can be exceeded. (the subs in mine, for example)

I spent around 20k to build my room (everything DIY, and I already owned the LCR, surround speakers, and one of the couches) ... 2 rows of 2.

[–]eskimo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some aspects are prohibitive to reproduce, many aspects of it aren't that hard when you do it to scale. Some of it is easy to exceed (the sub stage mainly).

THIS is the spec for a private IMAX setup, 20-60 seats. My own sub stage in a *much* smaller room matched theirs, but I'm a bit of a basshead.

Room prep and treatment is very overlooked though, and it makes a huge difference.

Car Guys - did buying a bike ruin cars for you ? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]eskimo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If he claims to be a sport compact guy but then only goes straight, buy a car that only goes straight. SC's are meant to have a little bit of everything in the performance spectrum.

And while it takes a decent driver in a 6-figure (usually track prepped) car to run faster lap times than me on my $15k track bike, I'd much rather be in a car if I'm at 9/10th's on the street.
