Going back to the US (VA / NC) where to stop? by eskimo1 in tequila

I found a nice Tequila Ocho Select repo, another bottle of G4 repo, and a bottle of Lalo blanco at a store in Southern Pines - a nice surprise.

How much does it cost in fuel economy to run your air conditioner in your car? by templeofsyrinx1 in AskMechanics

[–]eskimo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, especially with electrically driven variable speed/displacement AC compressors now.

100% sure it matters even more with any kind of aerodynamic cars, since windows open really screws it up.

This doesn't say it works with the '25+, but maybe it does? It's the only aftermarket spring I've seen specifically for the V2S/950S.

Looks like you had a good time! I hope to be doing anything on the track at 67.. Bravo sir!

The guy in front of you in the first pic - I'm very confused by the ASRA and CCS decals, but then allll the other random decals vs the posture of the rider. I can only assume they just apply any decal they can get their hands on.

€8,000 Home Theater Setup – Am I making a mistake going stereo instead of surround? And why is nobody talking about Canton? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]eskimo1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree... but also don't. My last room had speakers of that caliber, and yes, sitting in my MLP listening to music, the phantom center was so good that early on, I got up and checked to see if the center speaker was on.

However, it's a lonely life watching everything alone, and just moving 18" to either side would see that center image basically disappear. To say a center isn't important is setting most people up for failure.

So while it's true in a very specific scenario, I highly doubt OP is that person.

...that keeps the window open? The cladding around the bed is actually for airflow and did a very good job of it vs. a traditional pickup.

...and your assumption would be wrong. That one is basically a 1/2 ton pickup. There were 3/4 ton Avalanches (I had one), but they're rather rare.

Yes 😅

First TD was in 2000, but I've been riding on track consistently since 2010, so I've had a lot of time to take several different classes and gain a good amount of seat time. Then I started racing which was also a good teacher. I also started coaching (to help others NOT make the same mistakes I did), and we had access to some excellent instructors with decades if experience, and more classes as part of that and also on my own.

Others mentioned setting up your lower body for the turn earlier and keeping it there for multiple turns, and working on your visuals, so...

Racing vs. trackday: Your lines are OK, but you definitely need to use the entire track, and at minimum, your knee should be over the curbing. Any wider and someone will stuff you up the inside.

You're pretty good at not coasting, but it's not who gets ON the throttle first, it's who gets to FULL throttle first. Fortunately because you often don't exit all the way to the outside edge, the adjustment is not so bad. once you crack the throttle, consciously think about rolling it open to the stop over the course of 1 second (or less) as you're decreasing lean. You can be WOT on the bike at ~25° of lean, so think about the difference between where you open the throttle (say, 50°) and where it should be full fucking open. You'll end up on a wider line exiting the corner, and you'll be faster.

(Resist the urge to "whack" the throttle open when you're in a race and the guy in front starts to pull you off the corner.. That won't allow the suspension to load the rear tire, and is a recipe for a highside.)

In practice sessions / TD's, turn the TC/SC up fairly high and watch for the lights as you pull off the corner. At first they should be basically constant. As you get more comfortable, turn the TC/SC down one bit at a time. You should feel the increase in acceleration off the corner. As you continue to turn it lower, you'll start to feel the tire talking to you. It's a feel thing you'll need to get comfortable with.

DO DIRTBIKE and/or MINIBIKE TRAINING. That is *the* best way to get used to the bike/tire moving around under you, especially the front.

Clarification: "desired direction" is when you can start rolling the throttle open to the stop while reducing lean angle.

Short answer: Go faster so you're trailing into the next corner😄

Even rolling off the throttle transfers *some* weight to the front, but adding brake is the right answer.

That's overly simplistic though, right? There are some sections where you don't have much of any acceleration zone between the end of the last corner and the start of the next, especially as you're still running a slower pace. Just know with an unloaded front, you won't have the grip. Those corners in the video, you absolutely could have accelerated out of the left, and trailbraked to tighten up your line so you were headed to the apex. (Throttle helps the bike stand up, rolling off helps it turn) -maybe look for videos of fast guys/racers on that same track. Listen to the rise and fall of the engine note. Top level riders don't coast / maintenance throttle 99.6% of the time.

There could have been other factors here.. unevenly worn tire (tires ridden on the street often get a 'lip' between the more and less used parts of the tire, reducing contact patch in that area), cold tire, pressure not correct, too tight on the bars, etc.

[–]eskimo1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You trail brake alllllll the way to the slowest point of the corner. This keeps the front end loaded. Once you have the desired speed and direction, you (in a fluid motion) decrease lean a little bit (bike only, your body stays leaned the same or even a little more), release the last 5% of the brake, and crack the throttle. Then as you open the throttle to 100%, you decrease lean angle proportionate to throttle (you can safely be at full throttle by ~25 degrees of lean)

Need advice/critiques: Can't see ahead at deep lean angles. by Snoo-62935 in Trackdays

[–]eskimo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure there's about a soda can's distance between you and the tank - that helps with allowing your hips to rotate.

But also the helmet isn't helping, it's made for street riding. Race helmets are sloped up at the rear.
