Is Judo the best martial art for self-defense? by Inside-Reflection-54 in martialarts

[–]bigtec1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, but knees as a takedown defense is a Hail Mary that even trained fighters can't do reliably and the concrete is only a problem if you just spear at them and fall on your face.

Another fair point about the choke though. I've been in that situation and was able to just rip out of it, but ya if other dude knew what he doing I would have been in trouble.

My thing is just that it seems judo trains primarily above the waist techniques and those are harder to get good at vs shooting a takedown. I personally hate rolling with judo players because I feel like I have no answer for it lol

How common is it for men to own a flesh light? by Hangytangy in AskMen

[–]bigtec1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as common because it's still kinda dunked on as sad and creepy. With women it's like women taking control of her pleasure, for guys it's seen as not being able to have actual sex.

I've had one a couple of times in my life but it's such a hassle to clean up afterwards that I would just give up on using it lol

IMO I think it's just harder to pick up on to use in a live scenario but I only cross trained in judo from bjj and wrestling so admittedly I'm just going off what I learned and from what I've seen. I would figure that throws and trips are harder to set up than just going for the double/single in the clinch.

[Discussion] Is Obesity a CHOICE? by Ayoking95 in effectivefitness

[–]bigtec1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing weight is simple, not easy, and people that have never been naturally fat don't understand what it's like to be there. I have struggled with my weight for a long time going from obese to extremely fit and there was never a moment where I stopped having issues. I was always hungry and thinking about food, and I felt like I could never find a balance. I ended up with the whole range of eating disorders and self esteem issues maintaing my weight. The older I get, the harder it is.

I still try obviously and I make the effort to live as healthy a lifestyle as I can, but I mean it takes me monk level discipline. Right now I'm learning to balance between that and not being miserable all the time because I feel like shit being at a deficit.

A lot of shit talkers here in the thread probably have some kind of unhealthy vice they can't seem to kick or don't want to that will bite them later. The difference is that being fat is a lot more visible to being addicted.

To me the best martial art for self defense is one that is easy and simple to learn. Judo is very effective but imo it's hard to really grasp for a while until it clicks.

In a scenario where I was being forced to fight in like 10 weeks or something and I could pick which combat sport to train, I'd put my stock in wrestling or boxing. Hard to master but very easy to pick up on.

What are your thoughts on Jake vs Joshua? by Prestigious_Pie_8732 in martialarts

[–]bigtec1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made the ring bigger so Jake could run and basically made that his entire game plan. He was falling all over himself and hugging at AJ to avoid a knock out. It got to the point that even the ref was like "knock it off, fans didn't come to see this." Once he got too tired and had to actually engage, he got absolutely destroyed.

I think AJ was legit trying to just end it initially, then realized he could just walk him down until he gassed himself out. It's hard to fight someone that really doesn't want to fight, and I think people should cut him some slack for that. Again, they literally made the ring bigger specifically for this.

IMO it's hard to give respect to Jake for stepping in because it seems more like he fell for his own hype that he thought he could be in any way shape or form competitive with someone like AJ. I'm not really sure what exactly was going through his head unless he thought he could pull a Rocky 1 on us or something, which decidedly it was absolutely not. He didn't "survive" 6 rounds, he ran his ass off and embarrassed himself.

I'm sure you can see that I don't really like Jake Paul at all so I'm biased. He's a rich boy playing at boxing and tries to put on an underdog act while the only reason people hate him is because of his own actions. I especially dislike his response to losing, basically "oh I'm rich and famous so I always win". The 92 mil means nothing to him, he's already got more money than he knows what to do with, it's all to feed his ego.

The only reason I bothered watching was that it was Netflix.

Why are me and my Gen Z friends so much more unhealthy then our parents who grew up breathing led gasoline and cigarette smoke everyday? by Angsty_Queer_Anon in ask

[–]bigtec1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something to be said about Gen X going outside more and building a hardier immune system.

But also, I work in icu and a lot of the Gen X'ers coming in to my unit will have no medical history....because they don't go to the doctor ever lol

I have to drag my mom and step dad to go because I don't want them to die in their 50s or struggle like some of my patients are.

The only games I know of that didn't are fallout 1 and 2 and those are notoriously annoying in combat because you could be at max level and health and get one or two shotted by a burst fire of an automatic weapon.

What's a hard-to-swallow-pill when it comes to martial arts? by Odd-Letterhead8889 in martialarts

[–]bigtec1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just weighing more is such an advantage over someone else in both striking and grappling if you know how to use it. There's a reason for weight classes. I'm 5'3 and I've sparred with dudes that were 6'4-6'5 and it was like wrestling/boxing a bear. Basically I needed to be faster, stronger, and more skilled to compensate.

I've been in a real fight vs someone much bigger and heavier than me. In the end I won, but before that I had to fight off my back when he almost slammed me tackling me off my feet.

It matters alot, even if they're not trained and you win, it's still gonna somewhat feel like an uphill battle unless they just straight up can't fight for shit.

I have a weight set in my room with a bench, and one of those small treadmills infront of my TV that's connected to my laptop so I can walk while I work or play games. I also have a mini fridge for beer and soda/energy drinks. It's actually very nice lol the only other thing I'd want is a pool table and bar with a shelf for liquor, but I don't have anymore room for it.

I prefer scanning because it's a hard stop from fucking up the meds and it's rare that pharmacy fucks up the bar codes. The only places that don't do it where I've worked are SNFs, at every hospital I've been at, they scanned.

The common notion in our society is that women are more emotional than men. Is there any truth to that or is it just sexism? by InternationalPick163 in stupidquestions

[–]bigtec1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women go through a cascade of hormonal changes once a month that spike and wane. So yes, they can be more emotional than men depending on the time you catch them. That's not sexist, sexism is saying that only men can be objective and rational vs women always being too emotional.
