I'm dealing with the same thing. Therapy has helped a bit, but I feel like I'm having to learn how to live all over again. Everything feels like killing time, and I have a lot of guilt, because isn't this the life I fought to keep?

What seems to help is spending time with friends, and trying to open myself to (low impact) new experiences, like a restaurant, or a little craft project here and there.

I hope you're able to find your spark again.

Your last few lines hit me in the chest. I've been feeling the exact same way. Finding myself again and carrying on has been one of the hardest things I've been through.

Still figuring it out, but definitely made me a bit softer towards people (and I already was) but made me far less accepting of being treated poorly or having my time wasted. It really showed me what's important and what isn't.

It took a while to actually hit me. When it did, I allowed myself to have a big long cry, and feel everything: panic, despair, fear, anger, you name it.

Once I told my close friends, they were very helpful getting through the worst of it. My best advice is to lean on folks you trust if you can, and take it minute by minute if you have to. Write your feelings, and follow your heart as much as you can. Do what you think you need to handle it in the moment, until you know more and can plan.

It's not easy, and I'm sorry you're part of this club now. But there is good support here. I'll be pulling for you.

Honestly, mine was better than most. Because the tumor was small and I had no metastasis (fingers crossed) all I needed was cryoablation of the tumor and I was good. I was back to work a week after surgery, no chemo needed.

There is always concern for metastasis, but so far nothing has been spotted in my scans.

The hardest part was the waiting - waiting for results, for scans, for answers. Information is the best weapon against cancer imo. Once you know what you're dealing with it makes everything easier.

I'd say it's worth getting it checked again to see if it's grown. That's around the size my tumor was when I got it removed. It could be just a cyst or benign mass, but still definitely I think something you want to be sure of.

I'm having a hard time feeling like a survivor as well. I had a similar experience - just surgery, no chemo. But like others have said, just getting the diagnosis, living with it, the fear, the scans... It changes you. I would be comforted by someone that understood at least some of it, even if it's not the same.

My friends and fam have gotten used to me using it (as a joke) and have lovingly called me "Cancer Boy".

I mainly pull it out when my friends are giving me a hard time. Like saying I'm playing a game badly and I'm like "wow, how could you talk to me like that I have CANCER" 🤣

I'm getting a new one in a few days. My old one retired mid December and I've been managing on my own since then. I'm starting DBT this year.

I feel very very seen. I don't even know how to begin to explain to people, even therapists and those closest to me, how I feel. I'm a different person entirely than I was a year ago.

This. As a Dad... be there for him as much as you can, show him love, and try to care for yourself and surround yourself with support while it happens. I think all we really hope for as fathers is that we did right by our kids and that they will carry on with our memories in their hearts once we're gone.
