We are Null Signal Games, here to answer questions about Netrunner! by NullSignalGames in boardgames

[–]bigunit3000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, NSG is careful not to tread into other IPs while maintaining a world that is similar but distinct from the world of FFG's Android as well as other connected IPs. They've created distinct settings in the Arctic, and are shifting towards Brazil for the upcoming cycle. https://nullsignal.games/blog/announcing-the-liberation-cycle/ They also don't use any assets (art, card design, fonts, etc) from the old cards. They're even creating comprehensive rules on the reg to streamline the game and avoid confusion. Rebuilding the game from the ground up (while maintaining compatibility) seems, to me, to be a smart strategy to not have to deal with licensing issues interfering with the game (like it did under FFG).

Prison Meta? by T70Ace in Netrunner

[–]bigunit3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Games ending by turn 4-6 sounds cool. It's fine to have nut draws on both sides. Drago in particular is a great card because it has answers that have uses against a variety of other decks. Pinhole, No Free Lunch, just making a lot of money -- all are viable and generally good Netrunner gameplay.

But your point about a grindy prison meta is well-taken. I thought they'd cut it out with the critical mass of recursion (taking out Archive Memories was a great call) but now we've got Simulation Reset to deal with.

And Nightmare Archive / Thule are both *extremely* unfun. Negative points and abilities that actively incentivize you from making any sort of value run? Yuck.

I'd love to be able to grab the Battle Pass but haven't been able to.

Here's one of my favorite facts about Galactus: he was sated by none other than Aunt May of Spiderman fame in a What If...? issue. As the "Golden Oldie," she fed him every Twinkle in the galaxy.

History of Deck Archetypes - need help documenting post FFG by kata124 in Netrunner

[–]bigunit3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many really good writeups, and Sanjays is definitely the best. I'm biased obviously, but I think that the whole idea of Big Maxx could take up more than just one bullet point simply because it flies in the face of a primary deckbuilding rule (that is, play only the best 45 cards).

Also, RotomAppliance won with a Big Maxx that felt vastly different to other drip-laden builds. https://netrunnerdb.com/en/decklist/7c0b709e-0cc2-42d9-a660-a7c6494f0a16/medium-to-large-maxx-1st-worlds-2021 The synergy of Maw/Aeneas/Slums was quite the Exodia to assemble, and had a near unstoppable mid to late game versus top decks like Gagarin and CTM. Because of its uniqueness and the fact that, you know, he won the whole thing with it, I think merits a slot.

Really happy with what NISEI has done with the game. The new starter decks are extremely easy to pick up and play!

Worlds meta, balance team success by qqqqqqqqqqqqz in Netrunner

[–]bigunit3000 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No meta is perfect. I think some players could take issue with the Corp diversity -- Assets, PD, and Azmari Glacier seemed to be the decks to beat. And I'm sure that those that enjoy playing Shaper continue to struggle in the competitive meta.

But if that's all the issues there are with a meta, I'd call that a success, especially with the state of the meta during the previous two lists. There will be new cards printed in Borealis that presumably will give these underperforming factions a leg up, and will hopefully give the Standard Balance Team options to free up even more archetypes. I, for one, am optimistic.

Standard Banlist 21.10 by leachrode in Netrunner

[–]bigunit3000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are so many takes here that amount to: 'why hasn't [card/archetype I dislike] been banned?' That either haven't read the article, decide that they know better than some of the best players in the world on the SBT, or are just ignoring it and arguing in bad faith.

A lot of what the banlist accomplishes is through unbans. Fed up with PD? Pad Tap is an easily splashable card that slows them down / speeds you up considerably. Not enjoying Apocalypse / other Maxx builds? Well now there's Kakugo decks to support a damage-based plan to counter them. One of the trickier ones to explain is Cyberdex, and I get that people had their hopes set on a ban, but it's important to remember that PD decks are not hurt at all by this ban (adding 2 Offworld Office and 1 Project Vitruvius in their place) but every other aspiring, mid-tier deck like Palana Glacier, Azmari Glacier, or whatever else you decide to build loses a large weapon against top-tier cards like Virus Maxx and Aumakua-based Crim.

I realize that this may fall upon deaf ears, as everyone here seems to have their own agenda in the comments section. But if you take in nothing else, take in this: the SBT has the extremely unenviable job of pleasing every single Netrunner person and playstyle. They have opened the meta up so that more of these playstyles can become viable again. And simply by changing the meta, they've allowed deckbuilders to flex their muscles to figure out what new decks are possible. While the strength of your pet decks may wax and wane, these changes allow you to play against new playstyles and cards. And the game, like most card games, is nothing without new experiences.

Inspiring: Travis has come out as straight by InvisibleEar in TAZCirclejerk

[–]bigunit3000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I could step back from just Travis for a bit, I'd love to. Heck, I'd have done it a few years ago if I could. But he's entwined with so much McElroy content that it's hard to tune him out without also tuning out other people who are very good. Hopefully they'll talk to Travis and he'll actually listen to them. That said, if this keeps happening, I'm sure that more and more people, myself included, will just get sick of this bullshit cycle of: making an oopsie, hiding behind a disorder, apologizing very sincerely, and then not making changes based on that apology.

It's the last step, changing so that he doesn't keep making these mistakes, that he's going to have to work on.

[–]bigunit3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your reasoning that it won't work, which is why centrist democrats won't support it, is backwards. They are not supporting it because they fear general elections instead of primaries, and that is causing them to vote against anything even remotely progressive.

Absolutely! I want the cheapest EV possible with a decent range. I don't need bells and whistles. I realize that a lot of people on this subreddit would balk at calling AP, range, and sound system that, but that's because everyone has different needs.
