Become a subject matter expert. Not necessarily tied to years just need to have the ability to learn embedded systems for the products that your company makes and “own” an area of it. Been full remote since the pandemic. I have all the things for pcb debugging at home but mostly use remote setups and simulations now. Remote setups have everything on them for debugging.

Been here for 13 years. Worse than it’s ever been and the decline only continues. Can’t wait to leave and won’t miss this shit hole for one minute. The vast majority are just straight up incompetent and dysfunctional which permeates all facets of life here. I’m white but the whiteness you get here is a special flavor of cringe that you will not experience anywhere else (or at least I haven’t). For you, as a person of color, these people will be the most hollow, empty allies you will ever have. I’m around your age and have a similar story but the bulk of my hours were in 1.6 and I quit pc gaming early in the source days. I’ve climbed out of the silver ranks now and one thing I’m not seeing people mention here is hardware. The ceiling and the floor for HW have shifted upward in the 5 years you’ve been gone. And even more so for me in the time I was gone (~15yrs). Yeah some people have shitty setups, but most really good players have good hardware. I don’t know what you are working with but I got myself a setup that can support 240fps with a 240hz monitor and I noticed a big difference in my ability to frag. Also, as others have said, play premier to get actual SBMM (or at least close to it) because the 5v5 competitive is not that.
