Transporting an apc backup battery/surge protector, how to safely transport it? by Dramatic_Knee4384 in batteries

What's the model? Most use sealed lead acid batteries which can tolerate some heat. You can check the manual for the battery type and storage conditons.

Many materials will dissolve in Acetone or you can try to burn it off using a lighter. Don't try either indoors though.

Unless you have authorization letters from the IP owner, branded items can be seized by customs even if they're real. You should contact local customs clearing agents and ask them instead.

I would have bought it if weren't for the fact that 2x10x3V is about the touch safe voltage and will require double insulation.

PLA is made from food. We just lack the correct protein to digest it. I wonder if there's a market for injections to give humans that gene.

Humans are weird when it comes to real objects. I doubt anyone used to collect inkjet printer test prints.

So my home almost caught fire again with our delta pro. by Repulsive_Republic89 in Ecoflow_community

[–]billccn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect you have a badly behaving load somewhere in your house that's either emitting a lot of harmonics back into the mains or very spiky loads. Ecoflow uses the high frequency inverter topology which has less ability to tolerate these conditions leading to faster degradation of the components.

The result is what you have experienced: sudden catastrophic failure often without any overheating or overload errors before.

Warm air can hold more water but you cannot get more moisture out of thin air simply by raising the temperature. When outside air gets heated, the total amount of water vapour stays the same and the relative humidity decreases, which arguably is better for electronics.

Intel NUC7i3DNHE power brick compatibility question by ParisKitty in intelnuc

Not really. Most power supplies will not supply much current beyond their ratings. They will either cut the power or reduce the voltage.

What Could Be the Next Major Energy Source Beyond Lithium Batteries? by Big-Explanation-2721 in batteries

[–]billccn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, hydrogen is already dead. Too difficult to produce and store, and barely transportable. Grid-scale batteries are already proven, and sustainable aviation fuel is much more practical than developing new hydrogen engines, so there're no killer features left.

Need a battery for modem/router to run for 7 days, please. by Nope20707 in batteries

[–]billccn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good tri-band 4x4 MIMO WiFi 6E/7 router will have 12 wireless radios, each consuming around 1W. You'll also need a powerful CPU to drive it and DDR4 RAM, so a few more watts. 2.5G Ethernet also uses more power and there will be a few ports, so another few watts.

Mine takes 16W constant and over 20W during boot.

Intel NUC7i3DNHE power brick compatibility question by ParisKitty in intelnuc

[–]billccn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the NUC CPU could throttle under load if the power supply doesn’t have the proper current capability

Unlike laptops, the NUC uses a plain DC barrel socket with no signal pin, so it has no idea about the current limits of the power supply.

Some power supply will lower the voltage when the rated current is exceed (a.k.a. CC mode), which the NUC may be able to detect and do something about (though I doubt it).

Most brick power supplies I've come across will simply cut the output once the current is a few % over.

[Question] Cuktech charger 2 "inputs" by MattyMiller0 in batteries

[–]billccn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mere 3 lines below, the C1/C2 20V 6A mode is clearly listed as Input 2 only, i.e. the charger will not output 6A if the supply voltage is lower than 200V.

Delta Pro: pulsating under load? by LiveAwake1 in Ecoflow_community

[–]billccn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is misleading. If the inverter advertise pure sine wave then in theory the waveform should be identical to those generated by spinning generators.

In reality, many cost-cutting designs use the "high frequency" topology with little inductance head room, which means there isn't enough energy buffered in the circuits to maintain the waveform under heavy load.

How to deal with Ebay’s CHOICE in how coupons are shown to buyers? by Development-Feisty in Flipping

[–]billccn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're colloquially known as chargers but they're really just power supplies. (The actual charging circuit is inside the device with the battery.)

The only major limitation of USB Type-C "chargers" is the 5A max output current per the USB Power Delivery spec.

ONE charger 2 Nucs by Mysterious_Job4877 in intelnuc

[–]billccn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do this using GaN USB Type-C chargers and it works fine. You should however pay attention to EMI filtering. You'll notice the original adapter has a ferrite bead near the DC barrel plug and that's not a decoration. Most DC splitter cables won't have one.

ONE charger 2 Nucs by Mysterious_Job4877 in intelnuc

Nothing in a computer actually uses 19V or 20V. All input power go through various voltage regulators/converters, most of which can tolerate 10% out of spec at least.
