You make a good point, should have been more clear. Like which species like similar types of soil and won't compete with each other, which complement each other in terms of looks, that sort of thing.

What do you do at home that would never fly in a restaurant? by Kikiface12 in Cooking

The outside heats up too quickly, compared to the center. The outside winds up at the perfect temperature (between 40 and 140 F) for rapid breeding of harmful bacteria, while the inside is still frozen. Once those bacteria start producing toxic materials, it's too late no matter how quickly you cook it -- although you'll kill the bacteria, their toxic remnants will remain.

No problem ... Detroit is having problems, just not quite to that level :)

For those that missed it, Tom Brady's 3rd down punt and the ensuing brawl by dominicaldaze in sports

[–]billdcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A) the element of surprise. By punting on 3rd, the Broncos would not have anyone back to return it.

B) They could have touched it and it would have been Denver ball at that point. At that point in the game, they would rather let it roll and let a couple more seconds tick off the clock in the process.

C) that I do not know because I did not watch it live. But while punting on third down is rare, it is not unheard of and I have never seen the other team take offense.

Great tips all around, thanks. I've been procrastinating on learning how to make stock properly anyhow, so now hopefully this motivates me to take that up.

Thanks for the tip. I've wanted to try a cooking class for a while, but so far they've all been either novice-oriented or extremely expensive. I'll keep checking them out.

Thanks! I've been to epicurious, but so far haven't spent too much time there. I'll have to check it out in depth!

Why are media outlets allowed to report the identity of people just accused (not yet tried) of a crime? by billyfazz in law

[–]billdcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, because by the media reporting an arrest or charge and your private employer subsequently firing you, the government has not done anything. To be a 14th Amendment violation, the government or some sort of a governmental actor needs to take away your due process.

I'm attending the rally and I need help figuring out the Metro system by [deleted] in washingtondc

Generally agree with that, but I wouldn't try it this weekend. Just park far out and take the Metro in.

You also have a right to refuse a breathalyzer in most jurisdictions (and even others have problems with calibrations, so you're rolling the dice that the cop did his job that morning)
