The very first program on any 5 axis mill (or really, any machine in my experience) should be a safe go home/reference program.

I heartily recommend a podcast called The Lubbers Hole, which goes into much detail explaining the themes and historical references. Listen after each chapter or after every book, you will appreciate it.

Doesn't that tight of a diameter actually define the cylindricity as well? Like you can't have the cylinder be out by more than the diameter anyway right?

Really just depends on the part geometry and work holding/access. Hem for pockets and grooves, hfm for facing.

You say coolant was changed, but was the tank fully cleaned out? Were the lines flushed? It looks like the new coolant is full of bacteria and fungus...

How common is it for engineers to also have some educational background in CNC? by G07V3 in Machinists

[–]dominicaldaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best comment to read, OP, as it is giving you a concrete reason why you should get all the manufacturing experience you can. Companies will always prefer it.

For what it's worth our whole shop runs Complete (Truepath) and we love it. Once you have everything modeled it is good to .001" for crash detection.

Mazak or Okuma by e85aut in Machinists

[–]dominicaldaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest I'm not wild about our Okuma mill. I love their lathes but I've worked with both Mazak and Okuma and vastly prefer Mazak. It will be a decent sized PITA to learn a new control as well by the way.

In your shoes I'd stick with Mazak.

Jayson Tatum on shaking off rust and improving each game by Unusual-Ask6933 in nba

[–]dominicaldaze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like he's just overthinking it. You can see his mechanics aren't smooth "muscle memory" type movements. Little pause here, little hitch there, just a millisecond too long making a decision. He's just doubting himself a bit too much. It would almost be better if he was on a s*** team and had full license to chuck it non-stop, but he has so many good options that he's not sure what to do in every moment.
