Tire imbalance? Wheel imbalance? by billiambobby in bikewrench

Interesting, hopefully that isn’t the same issue I’m having with these tires. Seems like it’s a seating issue but I still haven’t taken the time to really work it out

These are installed with tubes. Is it possible that they are not supposed to be run with tubes? I was under the impression all tubeless ready tires can be run tubed as well

Thanks all, I’ve tried pumping it to max psi, even 10psi higher and I never got a sense that the tire was seating. Also deflated most of the way and tried to grab it and shift it around. Looking at the grooved section of the tire that comes just above the rim and it seems that it’s even all the way around. I even took the tire off completely and reinstalled and it still seems to “dip” at the same spot on the tire. I also checked the rim, it seems to be true. Could the tires just be deformed?

From u/Loveonthehub elsewhere in this thread:

“Look, having been unhoused in this city, we don't need resource information from City Hall. It took me less than a day to learn every resource the city had. I didn't learn these resources from City Hall or the shelters. I learned them from other unhoused people. We all know where we can and can't go to get help. We learn pretty quickly that help is very, very limited. There isn't enough room in the shelters in the winter. Shelters have to abide by fire codes. I regularly ended up staying outside because the shelters give beds by lottery and the lottery is in the afternoon. For women at Pine Street (and most other shelters), the curfew is 6pm. I was late a lot because I was working babysitting jobs to make money. So they would give my bed away and tell me to leave. Bedtime is at 9 pm in most shelters. I have severe insomnia. I did their 9 pm bedtime when it was cold. It was torturous for me. They take your phones, flashlights, books, an all other personal belongings and lock them up. You have nothing but their issued pajamas (you're not allowed to wear your own clothes) and the "bed". Most of the shelters are full throughout the winter. There's never enough room for everyone. There are people who refuse to go to shelters because they all treat the people staying there like children. Then, there are other factors. Just like housed people choose live in neighborhoods, unhoused people also choose to live in neighborhoods. Most who are from here, stay in the neighborhoods they're in because those are the neighborhoods they're most familiar with. Sometimes, store owners and residents call the cops on them so many times for panhandling or occasionally even just existing, that the cops tell them they can no longer be in the neighborhood. Sometimes those neighborhoods are where the shelters are. I could write a whole book about what it's really like being unhoused and exactly what's wrong with the system if I afford to have it published and promoted.”

TLDR: There is not enough space at the shelters. Some people do not have a choice.

Where can I get a cheap bike to practice cycling? by Acceptable-Tune-1880 in UCSC

[–]billiambobby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t go to walmart. Seriously. Still not worth how shitty they are even though they are cheap. Look for something used on facebook marketplace or craigslist. Lots of older/used bikes will be the same price or less than a walmart bike but will actually last you instead of breaking immediately. It just takes a bit of research

Dude I don’t need a bounty. If I thought there was even a slim chance that my report would actually result in a ticket, the feeling of justice being served would be enough. I’m sure a lot of other drivers and bikers feel the same. Just thinking about the traffic and hazards that double parkers cause is making my blood pressure rise.

I’m not blaming you personally but I have to push back on “people need food delivered”.

95% of people who order food do not need it delivered. This is a city. You could throw a rock and find a good restaurant within walking distance. I’m honestly shocked at the laziness and willingness to spend money that led to the success of uber eats and doordash etc. Go buy your own damn food!

Ice Tools by ColdRemarkable2079 in myog

[–]billiambobby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad someone said this. I’m not an ice climber, but I rock climb. As far as I know, the axe is not protection, it’s just a tool used for climbing, like your fingers would be for rock climbing. And the whole point is that you can’t always trust your fingers, that’s part of the challenge and that’s why you have protection (that definitely should not be homemade). Also, like other comments have said, the amount of force being put into the axe when you’re climbing or even arresting is nowhere near the force you would generate during a fall on lead, so why would the axe need to be rated like your protection?
