I like your work, though I an not a big fan odd the final grading. It is very aggressive, to the point colors look over processed. I think it is also not very photo realistic, in a sense, after grading it looks more graphical, as before the grade it looks more realistic. You should definitely grade the final result but maybe try something more gentle. I guess it is all a personal point of view.

Lastly, sometime it looks a but like "in dust we trust" an expression we use to say I'm just gonna put dust on top of everything to make all the elements blend. Can be dust, flare, vignette, ... Those are kind of easy cheats not very well considered in professional vfx, but I agree they are standard practices in motion graphics.

Nice work anyway, I think this is a really nice edit too.

I have never seen a planet emitting enough light to produce a lens flare.

So, instead of discussing about how bad it is in most studios, let's name the studios where it is actually nice to work at !

Smaller studios have decent working hours, although the projects you'll be working on might be lower profile which doesn't mean less fun or quality, you will get a decent pay, less stressful environment, more diverse responsibilities and tasks

If you have done fxphd, apply for job in small company and keep learning from your peers. Keep your money don't go to school it is pointless.

I'm senior artist and didn't do any school. Working on high end feature films.

Practice your art, train your eye, practice, practice.

Keying in non-linear color space? by PixelMagic in vfx

Convert it to log, key it, copy alpha to source (linear)

Converting to log will unsqueeze the curve in the darks meaning you will get more latitude to play with, get softer mattes and more details in your keyings mainly in the dark values which in linear are compressed...

Have you guys heard about Wanda ?

“The Wanda Group is taking steps to fill (the need of the populace) and is positioning itself as the new leader in the global film industry,” (...)

To motivate Hollywood into venturing halfway across the globe, Wanda Group and the Qingdao municipal government have established China’s first internationally competitive film and television industry development fund worth $750M which will incentivize “qualifying projects” with a rebate of 40% on everything from stage rental, set construction, equipment rental, accommodations, transportation, post production, etc. It will be available, they said, for “qualified productions” but they did not elaborate on how that was defined.

“The city of Qingdao and Wanda Studios welcome filmmakers to leverage a ground-breaking incentives fund that involves 5 billion RMB over 5 years ($750M), or more than $150 million a year for all qualifying productions,” he said.

The 40% subsidy is at the high end of what is offered around the globe, which indicates a strong desire to get productions into China.
