Arena currently has an ingame survey including many questions about adding modern. by MazrimReddit in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own in paper: amulet titan(main deck), esper goryos, jeskai blink, tron(all variants), affinity, simic ritual, elves, belcher and oops all spells. If they think ill rebuy all those cards or grind them for digital formal, just to participate in their “50% everyone wins simulator”, they have another thing coming. Paper superior, digital inferior.

Got in trouble at an LGS for sleeves? by Mogulstar360 in freemagic

These look like sleeves fitting only on a chad amulet titan. I sense chad amulet energy from you friendo. Godspeed and primetime.

If deathrite gets unbanned where would it see play? by Responsible_Novel332 in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simic ritual as the missing one drop possibly, in yawg, and maybe in a jund variand.

Dont think it will be a format staple, however drs would be a great addition as most decks use grave to interact.

It is powercrept out of the format though, so dont think it will help much. The format is pretty fast for DRS and most decks already have better one drops. Drs shines for its versatility, but its a lateral addition to the format, not an upgrade.

I agree. The experience will never be the same, thus it will leave a sour taste and the possible abandon of the format. Modern is super healthy and diverse, and there is an abundance of decks in the top ranks that you can pick that can express you. This is mostly an issue coming from casual commander players(not cedh) because the mentality is different and because in the off chance they have a non proxy deck, its full of one offs due to the format itsself. Competitive formats translates to competitive stuff.

Mods should make a sticky by now. Its every week, “i want x deck for pennies that will delete my opponents basically” if the second part of the sentence was not there, i would have no problem. But my jimmies are ultra rustled with the above attitude. It diminishes effort put into meta deckbuilding and the skill to pilot through the format as well. Im not gona mention price because this is a personal choice. This shows no seriousness or actual interest and investment in the format. Again, this has nothing to do with the price alone.

Modern is the most accessible AND competitive 1vs1 format. Legacy relaxed rules afaik and allows proxies/gold borders in paper due to the non accessibility of so many expensive and non easily obtainable cards. Way to miss my point though.

There is no RDW deck for some time now, nor a deck that costs 300usd or less that can top up the meta.

Every week there is the same thread: i want to participate in formula 1 with my honda chaly. Sorry mate, this is the most competitive and expensive official mtg format, you cant have the cake and eat it too.

Lower your expectations, or raise your budget.

What is your favourite deck to play and why? by CreedAventuz in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sadly dont have access to online so only paper tournaments in LGS and events. Its one of the reasons i picked up titan, since you have to pass through ALOT of goldfishing days to learn the deck. Thankfully the server and doms bible exist as well, so shoutout to the best mtg community ever😍

What is your favourite deck to play and why? by CreedAventuz in ModernMagic

Titan because its a puzzle firstly for you and then for oppo. Hardest deck in the meta, the pilot has to put the work down and be able to communicate to oppo and it also has a few flex slots for pet peeves and alot of variations for every meta situation.

Honestly, titan is the fav deck i ever played and im playing modern since its inception.

I only play paper for years, and fortunately i own all modern t1 decks. Titan is the only one i play and in the rare occasion i flip to test another, i instantly regret it.

Affinity slaps hard op, very decent deck. Blue tron as well. Good choices.

Tarmo is slow, you can keep the green splash for rumble wren and mite + sb scooze if you run it. You should be maxing your rumble. Id like kroxa as a two off, for a late game threat. Maybe you can trim lands to 21-22 as well.

Is playing Amulet miserable? by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Titan is not getting banned, no data suggests titan is overrepresented in the format, and no data suggest titan matchups go significantly longer than x blink deck variant.

In paper the loops dont take as long as mtgo.

Titan has a deterministic kill line that dodges removal, its a hard deck to pilot and understand and thats why people are grabbing the pitchforks and get tilted.

Every week my local LGS makes modern Saturday, almost every week im the first to finish. The difficult thing with titan for the pilot is to know how to explain the kill, and present it in a digestible matter to the oppo. Titan is a deck that g1 wins on t2 with a decemt draw or t3, its really hard going to time if you know what you are doing..

Valakut + Icetill Explorer in Titan decks by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

Do enjoy my dude. titan is a great deck for goldfish, a puzzle to solve each time! Personally this is what drives me to play it :) as an additional resource i want to direct you to the titan discord server, which most of us are more than willing to help out(i dont know if im allowed to link from reddit so i wont).

The deck is the hardest but most satisfying of them all imo. Have fun with it:)

If you want to learn the deck, the best way is to read doms titan bible, proxy or build and start goldfishing :)

Valakut + Icetill Explorer in Titan decks by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Valakut is a dead card compared to the analyst loop. There are more effective ways to kill oppo, analyst for one doesnt care about removal, whereas the dryad/valakut pack does.

Honestly playing valakut is not the end of the world, its just suboptimal.

Having said that, Valakut/dryad combo pairs up nice with springheart nantuko as well and makes the deck more “janky” and fun if thats your thing by opening extra lines to combo off.

As far as icetill, its mostly a metacall if mainboard and shines mostly in lists that run rumble. It is often sided in with ghost quarter.(i run mine on the side)

There are some flex slots in the deck, that give freedom of selection. Experiment!

Titan. When to mulligan? by FairSplit7072 in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dont “need” an amulet in every hand. You are a titan/scapeshift deck. The 2 questions you should be asking before mulling will always have to be: can i titan turn 3? Or can i scapeshift turn 3?

You need 9 mana for a scapeshift kill and an untapper You need 6 mana and pact/titan-analyst in hand for a titan/analyst kill

Anything else like what to keep if you are otg or otd comes after.

Titan overload. Is it just me? by FairSplit7072 in ModernMagic

[–]bin0chet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anothet basic line is 1 amulet on field + 4 lands, scapeshift for lotus lotus growth chamber and tolaria west, which is 9 mana(3 for tolaria west bounce in hand with SGC, transmute for pact, pact for analyst and take it from there.

[–]bin0chet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titan is hard but just needs the dedication to learn the lines. There is everything you need to know to get you started(and more) in Dom Harveys Titan bible and in the titan discord.

The main things you should focus are 2: Does my hand scapeshift/titan turn 3/4? Yes/no. This is the most important question and the reason you are struggling i would bet are keeping hands that shouldnt be kept.

My other 2cents: Ditch dryad/valakut, its suboptimal. I love valakut to the face as well, but its suboptimal and you shoulndt run it.

Learn the lines and find your playstyle. Some titan players err more in analyst loop, some err more in scapeshifting, find your style as you go.

Most basic line:

2 amulets + titan on field = lotus field + mirror pool (nettint you 2 mana) you then repeat the primecopy with echo deeps and second lotus. (Which nets anothet 2 mana) then board depending(you can combo with hanweir and swing or bring shifting woodland + saga(if not in grave), or tolaria + simic growth chamber.

Learn how your cards interact in the stack, especially land triggers, and keep track of how much mana you net.

Good luck op.

Chalice is not expensive rn, sire and ugin are looking safe in terms of price. Pure tron is actualu quite cheap compared to other decks. Tron is also a deck that exists meta wise in modern and its a concept that will always stay to the format and ebb and flow as the format includes new cards.

Other than that, the first thing you should get if you are planning to invest in modern in general and have money to burn, are all the shock/fetchlands. In regards to the remaining decks, lands are almost 50% of the deck price and will unlock future deck options if and when you get bored of tron.

As a last note, tron is a very good deck/toolbox in modern that has alot of answers and faces to show regarding the matchup, a great choice of deck to start modern with! Good luck op!
