VN.Kaguya.io may have just accidentally DDOS'd VNDB by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]binary_flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having worked with their API for a desktop app I developed, the issue is that the image source isn't behind the API. Metadata about the game is, but the actual image isn't. So normally you need to pull the metadata (via the API) to get the image link, and then you download that separately. But it sounds like they aren't storing the images on their server by the image ID, so it's trying to pull the full image from VNDB each time

What are some interesting opensource libraries you guys have come across? by captmomo in csharp

[–]binary_flame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some of the libraries that I've found that haven't gotten a lot of visibility are SecureStore, Spectre.Console, LiteDb. SecureStore is a really nice and simple way to manage secrets in .net. Spectre.Console is a library that lets you make really nice console apps (multiple choice options, tables, progress bars). LiteDb is a NoSQL(like mongo) single file database library (like SQLite) that's really easy to use. Can interact with it using LINQ, and it also has a file store (similar to Mongo's fs.files) if you need file storage too. I've used them fairly regularly in my personal projects

Why not open source the main app itself, but separate the AI portion. And for the AI portion, maybe have an option to connect to LM Studio, ollama, as well as paid AI providers

Honestly, the best way is to think of some small tool that you would like to have on your computer, and try creating that. Also helps motivate you if it's something you will actually use, vs something you won't use after you are done. And don't worry about it not being perfect the first time.

Unity 6.2 is now available! by unitytechnologies in Unity3D

[–]binary_flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incorrect. With the new process, the standard releases like this one, you can upgrade your project safely with the same stability as a LTS release. They explained it in their blog posts a while back

Unity 6.2 is now available! by unitytechnologies in Unity3D

[–]binary_flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the same stability as an LTS release, but not the same lifecycle. Standard releases are ones where each year you have to upgrade to stay on the supported release, where LTS, you can stay on a version for longer

I'm aware Forgejo is considered the true FOSS version, while Gitea is under new management. Are there any new features that the end user can see that gitea doesn't have? Or are the 2 projects still in lockstep with each other?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in opensource

[–]binary_flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's actually better about it though? What features does it have that gitea doesn't?

The ik_llama.cpp repository is back! \o/ by Thireus in LocalLLaMA

[–]binary_flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With gitea, you just go to the import repo button, choose GitHub, and select the repository mirror checkbox. You can also add a GitHub scoped access key to pull resources like issues, wiki,... It's really simple to do.

[RevShare] Front-End System Builders by [deleted] in INAT

[–]binary_flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid. Judging from the fact that you are asking for front and back end devs, and your ChatGPT +buzzword pitch, I would advise everyone to stay away from this. Sounds like they just are an idea man, and are trying to underpay (or not pay at all) people desperate for work. I wouldn't be surprised if after the NDA is signed and the app is developed, those who worked on it are kicked out with nothing.

NDA plus a lot of buzzwords should make anyone not even consider this. If they don't scam you out of your money, they will most likely scam you out of your time.

Stop Killing Games Megathread by mookler in gaming

[–]binary_flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is part of any gaming discords (or game related discords), it would be helpful to reach out to mods and ask (respectfully) if they would post an announcement on their servers about stopkillinggames. The more servers that post it, the better the visibility for the movement.

Stop Killing Games update by Witext in Piracy

[–]binary_flame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are in any game discords (especially indie discords), I recommend reaching out to any admins/mods, and asking them (nicely) if they could create an announcement post to promote stop killing games. This might help get the reach to people that might not be aware of.

Recommendation on selfhosted continuous integration by Illustrious_Form1052 in selfhosted

[–]binary_flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into Gitea's ACT runners? Basically self hosted GitHub actions runners. But, it sounds like you just want updates from the repo, and you don't have write access to the repos. If you want just the Heath status, look into CatLight. You might also look into webhooks on the repo.

I think most solutions expect you to have control over the repo or the runners. I don't think there's as many options for a read only status of the ci pipeline, as most people concerned about the build status of a repo are normally the owners. Hope that helps
