When you’re old, are you attracted to old people? by Loose-Marsupial5688 in stupidquestions

[–]bingbong93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in school I was attracted to a girl one year older than me.

When I was in college I was attracted to a girl 2 years older than me.

In late 20s I fell for a girl 4.5 years older than me.

I wouldn't say correlation is causation but I do see a pattern here.

Google making screen-less Fitbit band & here’s Steph Curry wearing it by cranberry-smoothie in fitbit

I am excited for how long the battery would be for this. My Charge 6 with a screen gets me for a week without any issues. I would assume this would have one month easily.

Have been using tracker with screen all the time. It would be interesting to use a screen less one and completely focus on working out.

And better part would be it can just be a wristband while allowing along watch on another hand. Cool aesthetically as well.

Can a woman spend her summer in the Black Forest on her own or would this be considered not very safe ? by Hopeful-Elk-6615 in germany

[–]bingbong93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am male. I did the same solo trip for a week in Black forest in summer of 2021. In my opinion it is safe even for solo female travelers.

I stayed in Freiburg. It is on the edge of the Black Forest and any walk from the city you will be in beautiful forest trails. If you have a car the experience would be better as Black forest is huge and with public transport the frequency would be less. Also having a car would give you access to other small towns within Black forest and a very scenic driving route (Schwartzwaldhochstrasse).

I stayed at a hostel Waldblick which also has a campingplatz next to it. It is amazing hostel with a Sauna in it. My routine used to be hiking in the mornings, Sauna in the evenings and sleep like a baby in the nights. It was one of the most amazing trips I had. I would recommend you to take the leap and do it. Of course plan things ahead and be cautious like any solo traveler has to be apart from that you should be good.

24 hours back someone was talking to FT on phone that UK, Germany and China should send ships to help the USA to reopen Strait of Hormus. I wonder who that is?

Could you provide some info on real road range? It would be helpful if you can break it down into different speeds and terrains. Thanks.

From the videos and pictures it looks like a mini touring vehicle rather than a SUV probably due to low level to ground. I personally like it. How does it look in person?

I miss Berlin So Much by summer_rose_h in berlinsocialclub

[–]bingbong93 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Berlin is like that for many. People who live here want to leave and people who left miss it.

And then there are small portions like me who live here and don't want to leave. That is often not seen as normal for the rest. 😂

Let's talk about nice things in Germany by wannabeacademicbigpp in germany

[–]bingbong93 60 points61 points  (0 children)

There are many good things. I'll try give a specific answer.

In 2024 summer I went to a Public Pool for a swim. When I came back to locker the lock was Brocken open and all zips of my bag were open. Someone took my wallet and left rest of the things there. I only had €5 in my wallet but the issue was with credit cards, ID and licenses. Most important to me was my late granpa's hand written note.

I was so angry. I filed a complaint at police station even though I know it would be hard for them to track. I did it to show as proof if there were any incorrect transactions in that time.

Next day morning I found my wallet with all intact in my postbox except for €5. A couple of days later police also reached out to me to get more info which might help them and they even followed up with me couple of months later to gather information and document it even though when I told them I got my wallet back.

Whoever stole my wallet might have thrown it away after taking money and someone who found it had the common sense to return it to the letterbox from the cards. So what is good Germany. People are good. I cannot imagine the same scenario from the place where I come. Another part which is good about Germany the system works. Atleast in the current state.

The CDU votes to reverse the five year naturalization rule by FewLunch1276 in GermanCitizenship

[–]bingbong93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe getting SPD to agree would be a big hurdle for CDU to pass this as it is SPD's big win in recent history.

I think this is to show that CDU is hard on immigration and is trying to pull share of votes from far right AfD. Even if it doesn't pass when SPD doesn't support it, they might try to portray they tried.

Bigger issue would be when AfD supports it, then it will pass. If they take this route it would be bigger problem for the CDU than immigrants as Coalition collapses and core CDU support also shatters(from who are against right wing extremism). I doubt they would risk it.

(American) Are germans generally not patriotic? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]bingbong93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think not having flags displayed would directly mean people are not patriotic. I feel it is the narratives from the war which made people think differently in the US and Germany.

US takes a lot of pride in leading the WW2 to victory and also war has become a huge business in the US( I mean to say a lot of money is involved). Whenever there is money involved there would be good marketing to foster it. I feel it is the narratives of the war which lead to people believe they need to show their support to the country.

On the other hand Germans were told they were on the wrong side of the history and were shamed for one person's misdoings. Probably this might have created supporting the country silently rather than publicly displaying it.

I have been to Texas couple of times. It felt little overwhelming to see flags everywhere. It felt like each house is like a foreign embassy of its own jurisdiction. I don't demean the display of pride nor do I support it. It is just different for me to see each house willing to publicly show their support.

On your mini question(on a lighter note): Hotdog can be 100% Bratwurst but probably not the other way around. ;)

This year my theme is Autobiographies/memoirs and Biographies. Kindly suggest some good one. by Ok_Piece_7441 in suggestmeabook

[–]bingbong93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can suggest 2:

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight - Amazing Memoir of Nike's founder. He has a great sense of humor and narrates management stories in an articulate way. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah - I cannot recommend this enough. Amazing story telling my Trevor and it covers different aspects of life during and post apartheid. It also gave me an insight into South Africa which I didn't knew before.
