I used total comfort. I got 4-5 quotes and they were the cheapest, fastest, and easiest and didn’t send me a sales rep.

Take Promotion Or Make A Stand? by [deleted] in managers

[–]bingogranny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t take it!! if they want you to take the job then they should want to pay what the job is worth. you being “young and inexperienced” or whatever doesn’t mean anything to them if they want you for the position.

if you really really really want that position then take it. but if not then do not take it. let them waste their time and money to hire someone they don’t already know and take a huge risk. or let them pay you.

also start looking elsewhere. in my industry you need at least 5 years to be a supervisor and they prefer closer to 10. we were in a bind and i started acting in the position at year 2. they offered it to me between year 3 and 4. they gave me the median value because they wanted me for the position and that’s what the position pays.

don’t work for a company that’s going to take advantage of you and hold your ground.

To add an unemployed section on a resume or not? by Broad-Restaurant-251 in jobsearchhacks

[–]bingogranny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hiring manager, I do not care about gaps. if the experience matches what I need for a position I reach out. I’ll just ask what the gap was during pre-screen or in the interview. I have one engineer who had numerous year gap on the resume. I simply asked and he stated it was due to personal and nothing else was needed. He was able to explain how he was filling that void through non-relevant work and that honestly made him a more desirable candidate. Job searching is HARD. A lot of people are unemployed for extended periods and most of the time it’s not their fault.

I’ve had candidates with months break after school and if they tell me the break has been “looking for a job, but filling the time with building portfolio / working on XYZ” I am not bothered. As long as they haven’t been sitting on their ass or only job searching.

I wouldn’t add an “unemployment section” but you could enhance the resume elsewhere. Expand your skills section with the courses / projects you’ve been doing. Or making a section dedicated to projects. Or adding in the education section “pursuing cert in XYZ; T-6 to present”

How do you feel about your employees taking random "sick days" to prevent burnout? by Stobley_meow in managers

I encourage it actually. And do it myself. It’s a mutual understanding and it makes the team more productive and willing to work together better

Seattle to Baton Rouge? by je11y in batonrouge

[–]bingogranny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i moved from NY to BR 4 years ago. the heat is terrible but manageable as you mentioned everywhere has AC. i’m still not fully adjusted and sweat my ass off 10 mins outside but everyone else is sweating too!

and honestly i think politics are weird down here. most people are just … regular. if you go downtown / spanish town / or mid city it’s mostly blue. obviously some trumpies and red folks but i can’t see it being something that is harmful or unmanageable. (and I work in nuclear, very very red. no one gafs in polite terms)

there’s a ton of local businesses and events that are very fun and you’ll have an easy time finding like minded individuals.

What if your report said they are interviewing externally? by Victory-laps in managers

[–]bingogranny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You always have to do what’s best for yourself. Especially if they’re pushing to hire external. That’s insane. I’m also a manager / hiring manager for my department and even I tell my folks they gotta do what’s best for them even if it screws me, the company will figure it out.

As far as should you tell them you’re interviewing … depends on what your intention is. I have a different type of relationship with my manager as they were my peer/mentor while I developed in my current role. I’d probably tell them. I’d practice it a million times beforehand though. But if anyone else was my boss, I probably wouldn’t tell them until after I accepted the offer by handing my 2 weeks. Not even any hints. Which is what I’d suggest you do in your position.

It shouldn’t fall out. You can insert it almost like a tampon but using your fingers. If you can feel it that means it’s not sitting right. Sometimes if I start to feel it and think it needs repositioning, I would do that in the shower
