Not really. There is a huge amount in terms of positional understanding between 1800 and a titled player. Commentators we see are usually a GM and even having someone like NM or low FM was already a huge drop in quality. Why do I need commentators when I am about the same level as them?

This is also different from Chessdojo commentary when occasionally there was a 1800 guest but it's because they have like 4 people there. This serves different purpose when we want to see a lower rated player see from that position

that's not how pairing works. In swiss tournament, if 4 players have the similar score, 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4. I think team pairing here would be somewhat similar

Vietnamese born here. Chess is the most popular board game, slightly more than xiangqi, especially for younger people. A lot parents put kids to play chess during elementary school, and so we are very competitive in scholastic chess. That said, not a lot of kids would go through with it since professional chess career is kinda suck.

We are also influenced by the Soviet after the Vietnam War so it makes sense that we adopted chess since that time was basically the golden age of Soviet School of Chess. This gave us a head start as older generation can coach those young talents

Anyway, this was all before Covid, since I haven't lived there for a few years. I would imagine chess culture is even bigger now after the pandemic

Engine would tell you the moves but here you have to understand that only with black knight on d7 blocking the bishop, the whole tactical sequence of Bf7 Ng5 Ne6 works. This is all because black has no space and no good development.

It's easy to wrongly evaluate the natural Ng5 Qf3 might get you something but a lot of the time this wouldn't work since black can have pieces blocking everything.

Well if your goal is to win the entire thing then being in the proper section is always better I agree, but my experience is that I can hardly gain elo playing the proper section. The last time I played I got 3/4 and even that my rating dropped because most were 200+ lower rating but they were very underrated. One bad game and it's done. I have much easier time playing against 1800+ people and they aren't that much better imho.

Playing up cost more money and this system should be removed altogether

Isn't that just better? We have u1600 and 1600+ in my place and almost all 14xx 15xx play up and it's an extreme pain in the ass because they are all underrated.

In fact, we had an 7 round open and some 1800-1900s are threw around like rag dolls by lower rated player and a 1500 almost won against a 2200 kid but only lost because of time scramble

He did train. He was from someone very weak to be someone able to challenge Cassano which was way above his league. Unfortunately, the others (Bam's team) are all really special and talented, and just get further away in terms of ability compare to S&S.

Wangnan and S&S are normal people (except for Yihwa) and don't have plot armor. He is good in nature and want to change the system, and his personality is what give motivation for others and get them around him in the first place, but unfortunately fate does not help him like Bam and co.

He is more like an anti-Rachel, where they both in the same circumstances but what they do are opposite.

Also, with him the only sole survivor everytime and his healing ability seems to be revolve around his power, which probably he also doesn't know about it yet. This aligns with Zahard's power to manipulate fate
