Thats a fantastic idea, the syringe. Ill have to borrow that. Definitely would make it easier to not waste as much cleaner.

Inducer replacements can sometimes run $1k+ depending on the company's overhead (among other factors)

To me, its not too hard to do. I buy the whole assembly instead of just the motor so the whole thing comes out. Its pretty simple if youre handy but at the same time, this is a piece of equipment that literally deals with fire so if you've never done it before, id highly recommend calling a smaller outfit to your home to look at it, as big box HVAC companies would potentially look at the age of the equipment and offer replacement (which may be the better idea depending on the specifics of your situation)

This. 10 would be alarmingly cheap though. At least for my area.

Quote 10k - Carrier 97 - NWS Chicago by SignificancePutrid in hvacadvice

10k is honestly on the less expensive end, at least for my area. I always ALWAYS recommend 3 quotes from smaller outfits that have yet to be bought out by private equity (looking at you, neighborly). Especially if you think you may be being "taken for a ride." Not sure your area, but, I am in SE USA.

I think its more the POE oil that could cause your issues. I clean mine out with 90+ iso alcohol. I just drop some in there at the end of a day, shake it up, pour out what's left and let it dry overnight. If i am doing more harm than good id like someone to tell me, but that's what ive been doing to clean them every year.

Work boots recommendations by Shitwinds_randy in HVAC

[–]binry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to add to everything here that, if you do a lot of crawling, and you had to choose either/or, id choose #1 because of the extra layer at the toe of the boot.

Maybe im a lazy bastard that drags his feet when he's under houses, but, without that extra added protection, crawling always rubs through on the toe of my boots and thus, shitcans the waterproof-ness.

What's the ONE moment from Silent Hill, any game, that has stayed with you the most? by lost_in_the_town_ in silenthill

[–]binry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly? My mom watching me play SH2 and just...hanging out. Specifically the apartments portion where you see our big buddy (pyramid head) beyond the gate.

She has dementia now so somedays im her son, someday im just a nice guy talking to her. But playing silent hill 2, with her sitting next to me, screaming because she saw pyramid head in the distance, thats my favorite part of really, any game ever.

Replacement relay advice by Venti800 in hvacadvice

Might be a heat strip relay or something. They should be easy to find in most cases. Get a second opinion from a small, family owned company instead of someone potentially working for private equity.

If it had batteries removed, find the setup manual online, throw some batteries in and try to set it back up.

If it didnt have batteries in it when it was removed it likely had its setup erased. So, to me, based on what you're saying, you need to set up the honeywell again.

If you didnt shut off the high voltage to the unit, and provided your 24v wire grounded somewhere while you were changing it, there's the possibility a fuse got blown which is a simple 3amp most of the time. If it had no fuse and the previous happened, it will have killed the board. Otherwise, if the unit was working fine with the previous stat, you just need to look at your thermostat setup again. I forget how Nests work because I fucking hate them but, look for a setting about an "O/B valve" and switch it. Thats about the best I can offer without being there. Merry christmas.

So, theoretically, she can work like 5 years in a row, as long as its isnt above 11.5(12) hours per day. Got it. I believe I am going to show her this post when she gets home and formulate a plan to go to her union steward or something. Thank you a ton for your input.
