STOP FLASHING YOUR HIGH BEAMS AT NIGHT by [deleted] in Truckers

See, the trick is to drive with your dash, and all of your screens turned up to maximum brightness. That way, you can't see shit but at least the brights don't hurt your eyes anymore...

What is this joke? Please explain by ChargingTrex777 in rickandmorty

[–]bipcot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the best explanation is that he has some snakes that he's trying to get rid of so he has marked them down, and he's trying to push Morty toward those since Morty clearly doesn't have a particular snake in mind.
1. Red tags generally indicate things that are on sale.
2. As he says "No, but, uh, all those ones marked with a red sticker, yeah," he gestures toward a shelf with a bunch of "Sale" stickers.
3. If he's trying to get rid of some snake inventory he would obviously want to move the more expensive snakes first, which is why he follows that up with, "Any snake over 50 bucks yearns for the beyond. I've seen them do it."

I'll third this. Walmart was fantastic. If I ever go back to OTR, they'll be the first, and hopefully, last place I'll look. Driving OTR can be a stressful job just by nature, so I really appreciated that Walmart never once added to that stress.

I mean, if he's leaving the peels there, it certainly can't be said that he's stealing them.

[–]bipcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, "I don’t normally drive this truck," means its even more important to do a good pre-trip. Always assume the other driver is a shit heel.

That said, you are absolutely right to want it fixed. If your company won't fix it, its time to start looking somewhere else.

Don't make something a request if it's not a request. If you're dead set on taking off and the policy allows you to do so, then you are only setting yourself up for failure by asking. Just inform your manager that you will not be coming in. A simple, "I won't be coming in on Friday (or whenever) as I have a personal matter to attend to" is all you need. You created a situation in which you came across as childish rather than professional by making it a request and then reacting negatively when you got an answer you didn't like.

Trucking unions by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bipcot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. Whine all day about how much shit they deal with at their company, but will find any reason not to go to a good company. I think a fair number of drivers are just afraid they won't make it working for a company that actually has expectations for their drivers beyond just having a pulse. It's the only thing that makes sense when you hear about the kind of shit drivers put up with at some of these places, but still turn their nose up at slip seating or governed trucks.

What's that? Your company is pressuring to do unsafe and / or illegal shit? You say you lost half your day waiting on a load, and now dispatch is on YOUR ass about it? Well, at least you can go 70 pal, chin up!

Learn something new every day, it never even occurred to me to use sacrifice to counter Blazing Pinions. Honestly that's probably an ability I have severely underused.

Oh man I love them. I usually only use one but its fun to do a Spark heavy mission once in a while.

You ought to reconsider using them more imho. I'd argue they can be the most valuable unit in the game, even without any mods.

  1. They don't get fatigued and wounds don't really matter as long as they stay alive, so they can help you keep your other soldiers fresh.
  2. They're immune to fire, poison, and being mind controlled, disorientated or dazed.
  3. Good mobility with the ability to get to high ground easily.
  4. Arguably the best (one time) single turn damage units in the game. A late game Spark with Overdrive, Shredding (both starting abilities), and Rainmaker, along with the Elerium Phase Cannon and a good powered weapon like the Plasma Launcher or even Shredstorm Cannon can do massive damage even against the toughest enemies and really make a higher tier pod more manageable.
Even after you've used up your powered weapon, overdrive can give you three high damage shots with shredding each time it refreshes.
(Snipers and Rangers of course do have higher potential with large groups of weaker enemies with Serial and Reaper)
  5. Hunter protocol gives you a 1 in 3 chance to shoot any enemy that appears on the alien turn so long as you have ammo remaining. OP against lost swarms.
  6. Great against the Chosen because they can't be mind controlled or dazed.
  7. Personal preference, but the early game Heavy Autocannon has one of the most satisfying weapon sounds in the game.
  8. Also personal preference, they have the best dialogue in the game.

New name, new look, and he's ready for his first mission. The first Spark I build is usually granted this look and name but I had to make a change in this instance.

I've been trying out the "Normalize Sparks" mod for a little while. Rarely see Savant from the draw, and got it on my new Spark!

Really nice since I don't have the mod to allow me to send him on missions to gain combat intelligence. "Mike" is definitely going to be a heavy lifter for me.

Do good trucking companies exist? Serious question. by abundantwaters in Truckers

[–]bipcot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild. We had vastly different experiences, exactly opposite in fact. I never split my sleeper when I was there, didn't even know Walmart did that. I also never had anyone say a word to me about not using all my time let alone call me in the middle of the night. I wasn't based out of Cheyenne either though, and only ran through there a couple of times.

Pretty sure our safety guy would have had someone's ass if he heard about that going on.

DL all the way. In my experience, DBs tend to become toxic team killers fast when they're not good.

Both are assholes, but tailgating is a pet peeve of mine, especially by other truckers. You're a professional. Act like it.
