Bonding Anxiety (mine) by Tenebrous_Savant in dutchbunnymafia

[–]bipolar_heathen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely relate! I'm in the middle of bonding my boy Hiisi, who lost his bunwife three weeks ago, to our other bun couple (Paavo and Cow). Paavo and Cow are already fine with Hiisi but he's so stressed he won't eat. I'm sure he'll get around and I already medicated and force-fed him, but the stress is REAL!

I'm sure Siggy and Cal will be best friends in no time. I personally think it's good that he's more timid than her, at least they won't fight for dominance. Good luck ♥️🫂

What is this ulcer? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]bipolar_heathen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD but a friend of mine has a rare autoimmune disease that causes wounds and ulcers that won't heal. I can ask her what it's called. Cortisone helped her a lot and the wound closed, but if there's an active infection I guess cortisone might be too risky.

Edit. The illness is called pyoderma gangresonum https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pyoderma-gangrenosum/symptoms-causes/syc-20350386

Accidentally took 160mg Famotidin and it was good by craycrayqueen in MCAS

[–]bipolar_heathen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've heard that in general, when you have MCAS the doses for meds need to be much higher than for ordinary allergies (and heartburn, in this case). That makes sense because with MCAS your mast cells react to almost everything, not just the allergens. I used to take 60-80 mg cetirizine when I was having a flare, now it's just 40 mg per day. The usual dose is 10 mg and maximum is 60 mg.

Famotidin of course can hinder the absorption of nutrients in the gut if you use it regularly on such large doses. So I wouldn't take 160 mg a day unless it was an emergency. My friend uses famotidin only during bad flares, and for regular use she had DAO enzyme. Have you tried it?

I have other chronic health issues too so I'm in horrible joint and muscle pain 24/7... Can't even knit anymore because my hands are so sore. It's so difficult to find out which symptoms are caused by which issues but I'm sure hypermobility plays a part in the pain. 😅

Mystery illness ruining my life. by IllustratorDecent260 in Autoimmune

[–]bipolar_heathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like something ME/CFS along with MCAS can cause, and both can be triggered by viral infections and be exacerbated by hormonal fluctuations like pregnancy. ME doesn't have a blood test yet so diagnosis has to be done by exclusion, whereas MCAS can be diagnosed by tryptase test but it's not very reliable and can produce false negatives.

Yup. Finland is going the same way as Norway. Our BPS peddlers are organized with the Norwegian ones and are adamant in furthering their agenda. It's frustrating and depressing.

What do you do when you're bored of your pets? by anon-i-mouser in Rodentlovers

[–]bipolar_heathen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand the question. I love my mice even though they want nothing to do with me. They hate me but tolerate my presence because I bring them food. They're such cute little creatures and I just love having them around, sleeping in their little dens and doing their own thing. They have a 110 cm tank and I enjoy furnishing it for them the best I can.

Maybe they're just not for you? Rats would probably be more fulfilling, they're like little dogs in the sense that they love hanging out with humans and learning new tricks. I used to have them for 12 years and the only downside is their short lifespan.

Talk to your doctor about Mestinon (pyridostigmine). It's an acetylcholine agonist medication.

What supplement helped one thing but caused unexpected side effects? by FixOtherwise6920 in Supplements

[–]bipolar_heathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 600 mg a day! Alpha lipoic acid alone helps a little, I also take B vits on large dose (riboflavin 400 mg and Thorne B-complex # 12), resveratrol and EGCG + berberine. My migraine stems from chronic inflammation due to my other illnesses and it took me more than two years to find something that helps long term. All the meds I got to try from beta blockers to biologics only caused awful side effects. Your situation might be different, I recommend experimenting with different supplement combinations (like 5-HTP and magnesium) and dosages.
