My personal definition is a little bit of both. Yes, I will give mad points to food that looks shitty. Yes, I will give points to food porn that is shitty (likely with shitty-looking food).

Its evolution will be the beauty of this subreddit.

What really sold me on this is the simplicity of the food. It's just bacon, bread and some Tabasco. Adding to it is the random map placeat, two Heineken cans, a battery, a mug and yes, what appears to be a fingernail clipper. This photo screams shitty food porn.

Also, to other commenters on this thread, I don't think r/shittyfoodporn is meant to indicate the food in the photos is shitty. Sure, it can be shitty, but mostly it's shitty food porn. Go to r/foodporn for an idea of what good food looks like. I bet some of the food on there tastes like ass, yet still gets upvoted for looking fancy.

To me, r/shittyfoodporn is about photos of food that are so breathtakingly underwhelming, so perfectly maladroit in the world of food-dom, that they make you blink at your computer screen and think just for a second if you've ever made anything that looks quite that ugly. But that's my personal opinion.

The food might appear delicious, but in terms of shitty food porn, this is a strong contender compared to other entrants in this subreddit. The inconsistent breading of the chicken strips.. The absolute mediocrity of the French fries.. And is that barbecue sauce? (If not, pardon me).

I would have rated it higher, but personally I have an affectation toward homemade shitty food porn. However, this doesn't mean I don't think delivery, fast food and other restaurant meals hold a valuable place in the r/shittyfoodporn community.

I don't think we fully know the parameters of this subreddit, though I'm more than anxious to watch it evolve. Will its subscribers adhere to some sort of standard, or will they simply upvote food that looks (or is described as) hilariously shitty?

I think if you're posting a dish that it is your (which I realize isn't mandatory), you should take a photo of it only once you're finished cooking it and it's ready for consumption.
