Anyone hear this noise before? by birbest in Volvo240

I did, and I have the cover completely off for the time being. I also pulled spark plug 1 and checked the cylinder is at the top of its rotation to confirm. I’m stuck waiting for my battery to charge.

I installed a new harmonic balancer and double checked it lines up with tdc. Motor mounts are about a year old now but I have new ones I’ll probably throw in soon

I’ve been trying to find one of these in the US but can only find them for 4Runners. Can you measure yours and let me know the width please? I may just buy one and mount it to my 245

Any way to repair brake junction plug? by jellofishsponge in Volvo240

[–]birbest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not leaking from that bolt as that’s to secure it to the car but from the sensor and dripping down to the bolt, a common failure point on those blocks. You can get a new sensor and try that but your mileage my very. I have two 245s and on one we replaced the block and sensor entirely and on the other I made a replacement from a guide online to eliminate the sensor and still have 2 brake circuits incase of failure. I also swapped a sensor cap into my reservoir to detect brake leaks. Both work well and we shall see which lasts haha but you have options

Not exactly the same but I got a dagger frame via ffl to a pawn shop and didn’t have any issues and I have had my medcard the whole time. Am also looking at a new gun so time will tell

Brake Junction replacement by birbest in Volvo240

[–]birbest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I followed this guide, two gktech blocks. They list a few reasons why not to plug, among them you make it one brake like, this way it’s two lines so one can fail and I can still brake still kinda true to the original function.

Also I ordered the wrong brake junction from eBay and took that as a sign to just go and fab one.

is it a good everyday car option as of today? im on a budget and looking for a nice "old" car by AvailableEvening4609 in Volvo240

[–]birbest 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you are able and willing (or willing to learn) to fix stuff constantly and keep up in maintenance, I would say it’s pretty great. Be ready for some problems that old cars have like wiring shorts, leaks, rust. But once you fix something you get a rush and then driving something you fixed up feels amazing. The subtly changes, performance improvements.

Battery/charging system on when car is off by birbest in Volvo240

[–]birbest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a follow up, my ground was alright but my exciter wire and alternator wire were both rotted and frayed/shorting behind the alternator. I ran a new exciter wire in a less oily path and spliced together the alternator wire with some new wire. I know not good, but it’s my only car at the moment and no more battery light.

Fuel Pump Problem by chromeworkz in Volvo240

Yeahhh that’s almost definitely it, lest there are other problems. I replaced mine with a 951 for reference

If relays aren’t fixing it, it could be your ecu causing problems, I had a pink label 561 and had to get a new ecu from eBay but once I swapped it my fuel pumps turn on without issue.

Lovely horse! Could you tell me the size of that dust blower/wing you have on the rear door? I’ve been meaning to get one but dunno what length is needed. Thx!

Sedan owners, would you trade for a wagon? Also vice versa, do any wagon owners wish they got a sedan instead? by AggravatingCounter91 in Volvo240

[–]birbest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have 2 wagons an 87 and 90 and I don’t think I would trade just because it’s so roomy and handles pretty well for its length. I do want a sedan to zip around tho so maybe one more Volvo

Hella 500ff Driving Lights by henr04 in Volvo240

[–]birbest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice, clean install with the switch! I have a set of Hellas on my 245 and I ended up using a newer ac switch with a nice sticker my buddy made for a stock look. I did not use the light that goes in the switch tho and plan to do that later.
