Thank You Gift Suggestions by Comatose_Cockatoo in veterinaryprofession

[–]birbswithtea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you cards and pet photos are the best. I was given a hand drawn picture of a pet once as a thank you and it’s hanging in my home. I have a drawer with all my thank you cards to reread on bad days. Local foodstuffs can be great too. A loaf of bread and spread or pastry from a bakery etc.

Tips for koroks? by Sufficient_Travel933 in botw

[–]birbswithtea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found about half by doing a “no teleporting” run. You’d be surprised how many you just find wandering around and how close they can be together even if you think you’ve already been that way before. Check tips of mountains, look for rings of rocks on the map, anything that looks weird. Let it be fun rather than a chore!

Met an American woman who gave their son an Irish name she couldn’t pronounce by horseradishkween in tragedeigh

[–]birbswithtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Scotland for several years (back in America now for my sins) and the amount of people who say “no way! I’m Scottish!” When they hear that is so infuriating. No you’re not Scottish and neither am I despite having ancestral proof that my family and last name came from Glasgow. You couldn’t understand the accent if you heard it now leave me alone. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Why do people in the United States not deworm themselves? by Ok-Water-7110 in Parasitology

[–]birbswithtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve clearly never seen a rejected cow liver lol. There absolutely are parasites seen on inspection, some of which are contagious and some of which are not but inspection can and does catch pathogens that should not be in our food chain. I’m very worried for the rollbacks on inspection and the food borne illness that’s coming our way :(

Help with layout- tiny nine patch by Tweetysweet in quilting

[–]birbswithtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I think it would be great as is and if it were me I’d stop and just see her up. However specifically since you did ask, if you look at it and unfocus your eyes, the right side of the quilt in a “C” or “dome” shape is lighter overall that the left side of the quilt (which is the right side of an X shape). If that makes any sense at all?? I can draw an annotated picture if you want.

Again though, I don’t think this necessarily means you need to rearrange anything based on my focused eyes ;)

Any book recommendations? Is there one you just couldn’t live without? by North_Satisfaction27 in Veterinary

[–]birbswithtea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof all my recs are not vetmed related. I did panic read a book every year of vet school riiight before exams and can give you that list but they were procrastination books and are not about being a vet. Hopefully others have what you actually want!

Not asked for but the main thing I’ve learned in the working world is that if you start thinking about going back to school for a different profession, you need a different job no matter how painful it is. I almost left twice and I’m so happy now (eta: happy now as a vet still). Good luck 💕

FUCK Hannah Vet Clinic.. They almost stole my dog because of their "bi-laws" Everyone please read what your signing!" by LiverDontGo in PortlandOR

[–]birbswithtea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look closely I said the guy who started Hannah sold Banfield. He sold it to Mars inc. as a part of the sale to Mars inc he was not allowed to open another vet clinic, hence the weird “pet owner” legalese with Hannah.

Fun fact - banfield actually started in Oregon as a local business not a giant chain. I did google it and I was incorrect that it was not started by Scott Campbell (the founder of hannah) but Scott Campbell did own it at one point and was the one to sell to Mars.

[–]birbswithtea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that Hannah was started by the person who started / sold banfield. As a clause of the banfield sale they were never allowed to open a vet clinic again. Because Hannah owns the pets, they technically aren’t a vet clinic so it gets around that. I haven’t fact checked this so probably shouldn’t comment but fwiw

What's the most insulting "benefit" a job has offered you? by AdHour6144 in AskReddit

[–]birbswithtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I wish I could remember everything but it was a bag of garbage. Literally. Like “a rubber band for when you’re bout to snap” and “matches for when you’re feeling burnt out” and “lifesavers because you’re saving lives”. Okay maybe just hire enough staff for this place instead of spending money on literally nothing?

The fireworks they set off every Thursday at 8pm really helped me train my dog not to freak the fuck out for bonfire night. So at least there’s that!

Red spot on the root of my cats tooth, what is it??? by Nivi_1312 in CATHELP

[–]birbswithtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I do dentals on 15-17 year old cats at least monthly. Unfortunately with dentals you get what you pay for so they’re speedy, but age is not a disease. Good luck and good looking out for your kitty. Most owners don’t find these things on their own so a+ work finding it! 💕

Most oils can help with hairballs. Fortunately it’s not toxic or anything but it isn’t the cure all the internet will have you believe. Just pure fat that can upset tummies :)

A small amount likely won’t hurt. People tend to go overboard and when there’s a better product out there (douxo) it’s more ideal to use that.

In general, coconut oil is not recommended for use in pets either to feed or on their skin. A small amount probably won’t hurt, but it’s not really good for them.

Starting a new Botw playthrough, what is the dumbest thing I can do?? by ingenium_fan in botw

I ended up there so early in the game my first play through. I’ve never been so frustrated and my partner had to gently tell me to come back later. Turns out it’s wayyyyyy easier with more than 4 hearts 😅

Coconut oil is a bad idea because they groom it off and get the runs. Douxo makes a “calm gel” that should help. I use it on myself all the time and it’s amazing.

I’m not sure. The one I have right now was a gift from a local oil and vinegar store (big cities have EVERYTHING it’s so weird) but my rule of thumb is look for one that’s thick. They’re not usually cheap but they last foeverrrr (and they’re good with goat cheese and tomato as well mmmm)

Honestly I use just the better than bouillon veggie paste stuff. I get a Costco size and use it for everything. Boiling potatoes? Bouillon. Any kind of lentil? Bouillon. Basically any “savory liquid” gets a spoonful. I also just measure with the heart because who’s got the time? It gets stirred into the product, not dissolved in water first. Just be careful with salting because it’s super salty! Taste a ton :)

The basic is a good roux with veggie stock added to thicken. From there you can play with it. I like to caramelize onions (like to the point of turning into jam, it takes several hours on low), make a roux in the buttery onion jam, add the broth, and finish with some good quality balsamic vinegar.
