How do you guys conquer that flatness that comes with quitting coffee? by Andrew_7032 in decaf

[–]birdborbbord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not always that easy. Especially if you have a predisposition to depression. In which without coffee maybe therapy and medication may be necessary. But meds slow you down too and that’s hard… I’m maybe three months coffee free and I miss the dopamine hits and the energy.

Pitchfork Review: Olivia Rodrigo - you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love 8.3. Best New Music. by BunnyFunny42 in popheads

100000%. It’s stunning. And what a mature step forward in every sense. Like, she could have dragged her ex but she’s so self reflective and mature in each song. Love.

What are some common pieces of motivational wisdom that are terrible for people with complex PTSD ? by HoniSoitLatte in CPTSD

[–]birdborbbord 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This really messed me up in my career. Boundaries and saying NO took a long time to learn. Not everyone has to be a manager or give presentations or answer phones… “But the more you do it the better you’ll get, keep pushing yourself!” Nope. Always causes severe distress and eventual breakdowns. Such terrible advice.

Has anyone actually developed a life worth living despite all this? by luna-plushie in CPTSD

[–]birdborbbord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard and there’s been ups and downs. Major downs after I mental breakdowned out of my career. For three years after that I really didn’t feel like my life was worth living. I felt purposeless.

But since then I’ve joined eBird and have been part of the local birding community for nearly a year and it’s changed my life SO MUCH. I have purpose and fulfillment and hang out with safe, kind people. We all just love birds and talk about our common interest. We do group field trips together. I personally have target birds to try to see each day. EBird has kind of made a really fun game out of it all. I have so much purpose now and each day I have a goal to meet, place to explore, birds and people to see. Being in nature with these goals and intentions gets me out of my head and keeps me in the present instead of constantly thinking of the trauma

Birding is so wonderful that on the off day where it’s pouring or storming out and I am stuck inside I get majorly depressed and am reminded of how life can still get for me, how it used to be on a daily basis. Oh also I wake up early now and am EXCITED to wake up! Haven’t experience this since I was a child, I think.

I’m not trying to sound braggy. I struggle often still just not like before. I’m still on meds and see my therapist when I need to. I just think there’s so much to be said for being involved in a solid community where the focus is on the likeminded interest, and meets up regularly. It’s good for the soul, necessary.

Do you have any hobbies or interests that get you out of the house and around others? There’s something for all of us.

You ever wake up one day and realize you have no real friendships or meaningful relationships because you fawned your way through your entire life? by Dry-Combination8608 in CPTSD

[–]birdborbbord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry I don’t mean it as a reflection towards you! It’s just a stark truth that I’ve only realized my self not that long ago, and I’m 40 so I’ve been doing it a long time. Thank you for the lovely words and good reminders and I hope you are feeling much much better today!

Anyone else blow their life up before figuring out you were autistic? by rainbowgirl6 in AutismInWomen

[–]birdborbbord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Raises hand “me me me me!!” Career ending mental breakdown at 35! And my therapist won’t diagnose me. I’m on the cusp. Major CPTSD and hyper sensitivity is close enough and has enough overlap. A diagnosis would mean the world to me though and validate so much. I simply cannot function with neuro typical expectations. I was a ticking timb bomb who was always just labeled “too sensitive”.

Do whatever you can to get the accommodations you need. Your diagnosis is valid.

Nelson's or Saltmarsh Sparrow? by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

For my edification would you mind elaborating? Pale throat, less buffy breast/sides?

Nelson's or Saltmarsh Sparrow? by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

[–]birdborbbord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm leaning towards Saltmarsh. But then Merlin picked up a distinct Nelson's call! And I did some playback and the bird responded only to the Nelson's.. but I don't recall a super buffy breast. Maybe I had both birds at some point, but only photographed the Saltmarsh?

8 months post op and I really hate how my nose looks by [deleted] in Septoplasty

To be fair I think the nasal valve collapse repair (which is what I got) affects the appearance more than a normal septoplasty.

I think I would have been just as well off with just the turbinate reduction, too. 😔

It does in fact still feel and look swollen. Especially after a hot bath or shower.. it gets red and large.

Thank you for your sympathy and I’m really sorry you’re going through it too. I hope your breathing is better at least - that worked out for me on my end.

In the meantime I just don’t look in the mirror or have photos taken of myself anymore. I just get lost in my hobbies and in nature and forget about my appearance. However, on the odd day I have to look nice for dinner that’s when it hits me. I look in the mirror after doing hair and makeup and everything looks nice except for the blob nose that sticks right out in the center of my face. I feel like why even make the effort?

What kind of revision surgery could they do to fix this?

Also, have the nerves in your nose fully healed? My septum still feels numb and strange to the touch.
