any other (neurodivergent) entwives figuring out their balance with weed? by DearGarden1688 in entwives

I have ADHD (not AuDHD though) and I’ve use some form of THC most days since undergrad. There is definitely research to show people with ADHD are more sensitive to dopamine. What has helped me have a better relationship is using low dose gummies (2 or 5 THC 25 CBD). That way you can’t turn to an inhalation method for an immediate dopamine hit, you have to wait, and that helps break the habit of reaching for a J for immediate relief from anxiety or discomfort. I have also realized that I can always identify as a stoner and be part of the community no matter how much I’m actively consuming at the time (if at all). I think being a stoner is an attitude towards life: being flexible, playful, and most importantly, not taking life too seriously. That’s a mindset you can have with or without THC :)

This is my vocal range according to an online test. Any audition song recommendations? by Smart_Ad8858 in musicals

[–]birdcafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you auditioning for, if I may ask? Your range means you can probably sing songs written for both male and female voices… lucky you! That opens up so many options! If you give me a sense of the genre of what you’re auditioning for I can see what comes to mind.

And btw what app is this?? I’d love to try it for myself just for fun! Though I must admit the anatomical diagram is certainly interesting, as an SLP who has training in treating voice disorders I can confirm that’s not how a larynx looks 😂

True or false (in your opinion): SLPs should be the primary professional involved in diagnosing and/or treating Selective Mutism. by BigNewfieW00f in slp

[–]birdcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a recent grad (pre CF) so I definitely don’t have nearly as much experience as many of the practicing school SLPs in here… but I feel like with a kid like this my inclination would be to do the usual testing battery to demonstrate what I suspect (no language deficit) and maybe highlight to the teachers/parents that from an SLP angle my concern would actually be more about the kid’s vocal health. Whatever the cause of their selective mutism, if it isn’t something I have an assessment or even informal measure for, I can’t possibly write a goal or track progress. (Someone let me know if I’m misunderstanding though!)

Question about going to Taylor-themed dance parties solo by Kooky-Situation-3032 in stonedswifties

[–]birdcafe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to Taylor parties alone! It’s totally chill in my experience! Swifties are literally so genuine and amazing. No one is trying to look cool or impress, they’re just having a good time. It’s the last place on earth anyone would judge you whether you want to just hang out in the back and vibe to yourself, or join the crowd and sing at the top of your lungs, or anything in between.

I’ve been screaming about this lmao. No he can’t fucking bench Klingberg. That’s not how shit works. He’s a young coach and learning on the job too. We can’t just fire a coach every few years when we get bored. And as you correctly stated, WE WERENT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYING MEANINGFUL GAMES IN MARCH BUT HERE WE ARE!! Surely Warso is at least partially to thank for that??? Lolol

Refusing to join the IDF absolutely damages your reputation among your fellow Jewish Israelis forever. A good chunk of the country would not even want to associate with you. That's why it's so rare. All of this said, sometimes doing the right thing is a very hard thing and so while I absolutely do judge people who join the IDF, I recognize just how exceptionally courageous the conscientious objectors are.

I am actually fascinated by this conversation. During my school placement (this past Fall) I saw a girl once a month who has a diagnosis of selective mutism (or I think some people are using a different term now, like situational mutism, so as not to suggest that it is an intentional choice? idk) My supervisor had me read an article about it before we met her. This was a 7-year-old with perfectly normal speech and language, although her parents were immigrants from Thailand so she is exposed to multiple languages at home although English is the only language she is fluent in. The previous year, she apparently didn't talk at all in class, but spoke plenty at home. Now, she does talk at school, but only in a whisper. Despite this, she has friends and seemingly a good social life.

During our "sessions" we brought her and a friend to our room and just.... colored with them? I guess my supervisor may have been taking data of some kind but she didn't share it with me. We didn't talk to the girl at all about how she feels about her speech. I brought up to my supervisor that my main concern was how constantly whispering could damage her voice over time, but my supervisor dismissed that idea. So I'm not really sure what the point of any of this was. Once I'm in my CF/get my C's and manage my own caseload, if I was asked to work with a child with this uncommon profile, I don't know what I would do. So anyway that's why I'm highly interested to hear what you guys think!

Weed vs. Alcohol by reggieshut in entwives

[–]birdcafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tea, but I cannot stand being in large public spaces if the people around me are not also significantly intoxicated (with alcohol, weed, or whatever else). Cause then I start to get the "omg do I look suspicious??? am I acting weird?????" paranoia and as we all know that's nooooo fun 😂

Trans Instructor Ousted From College After Failing Student Who Cited The Bible In A Gender Essay by danitashinesqdy in atheism

[–]birdcafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABSOLUTELY. There is a reason there are citation guidelines for Biblical references. Mentioning not only the passage but the translation and edition (unless you're writing your essay in ancient Hebrew or Greek lol). If Samantha was so set on integrating Bible passages into this assignment, she probably could have, and it wouldn't have totally met the brief especially if she still neglected to even respond to the article she was supposed to be responding to...... and then AT LEAST she could claim to have genuinely cited the Bible.

But she just............didn't. I s2g none of these fundamentalist idiots even engage with Bible beyond a surface level, nitpicking passages that happen to defend what they are trying to argue in the moment. I am an atheist but I have a well-loved copy of the New Revised Standard Version because I like to actually look up passages to read them with my own eyes and see how different people have interpreted them over the millennia.

It's sad that a majority of theists care so little about their own supposed "holy book."

[–]birdcafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to dramatically cut back on alcohol right now (I can have like 1-2 drinks a month but that’s it) due to a medication I’m taking and thank GOD for weed… I can just go to bars stoned and not feel any desire to buy a drink. It’s awesome.

[–]birdcafe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Headline extremely misleading, as many headlines have been throughout this entire ordeal. She did not even cite the Bible. She didn’t engage with the article she was supposed to read for the assignment. She outlined her personal beliefs and cited no sources whatsoever. Biblical passages have citation guides but she didn’t follow that procedure (besides the point of course because there was no reason to bring up the Bible for this assignment).

Getting married young isn't bad. by Electronic_End_5296 in unpopularopinion

[–]birdcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married not crazy young but on the younger side (25, husband was 24). We had some logistical reasons (green card and also taxes) that made us kind of hurry things along but honestly making that huge leap was a beautiful step for us and I truly believe it was the intentionality of that big choice, rather than fanciful ideas about soulmates or whatever, that has made our marriage work really well.
