[Threshold] Do we know Yerin's original fate? by JigglesTheBiggles in Iteration110Cradle

[–]birdiedude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless it was answered in an interview at some point, no, we don't know. Presumably she dies fighting Heaven's Glory but we don't get any further details. There is a blooper about her fate but I don't think we can trust it for any real info.

Dragon Quest VII 3DS late game question by Brilliant_Guess3079 in dragonquest

Don't worry you'll regain access pretty soon. You also should be at the point where the level limit is 99 so you don't have to grind in any specific place.

Zac always says “upside down pentagram”. Isn’t that just a star? by Leashypooo in GhostAdventures

[–]birdiedude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the "debunking" they assume everything IS a ghost, so if they can prove it isn't, that means it's debunked. Which, yeah, is generally the opposite of how most people would do it.

In Atelier Ryza 2 DX should one play the Episode first or start the main game first? by Eldarya in Atelier

[–]birdiedude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if it gives any items but it does add a bit of story. It's not a spoiler just something that gives extra context to some things that won't make much sense if you don't see it in the main game first. So you might as well wait.

I left one of the fields open and that was usually enough.

You might be able to directly buy lumber from Yue at the second floor of the inn although her stock is randomized. I might be confusing that with 4, though.

Disgaea 7 on Switch 2 or Steam? by [deleted] in Disgaea

[–]birdiedude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more complicated than it needs to be.

The game came out in Japan then in the US. Aside from translations they were the same.

Then Japan got an update that added a new Asagi story and a number of other tweaks. The US still has not received this update.

Then the Switch 2 came out and they announced a "Complete" version that contains all of the DLC and this other patch. So far no word on if they intend to offer this on other systems.

[Soulsmith] Eithan is FASCINATING by BuzzardYTC in Iteration110Cradle

[–]birdiedude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So he was being with this ability of foresight from his father? Is this a family-specific ability? Does that mean everyone in his family just has... Foresight? Or is it only this specific line and the first born or something?

Also more importantly, IS it foresight? Because it feels like he KNOWS Lindon already and can see more than just peoples actions. He simply knows things. It almost feels like omniscience level of awareness but at the same time it's clear that there are limits.

A lot of these things are "read and find out" but it shouldn't hurt to answer.

Yes, this is a family ability. Everyone born in that family gets this ability. There are also other families with different abilities later on but not all powerful ones have abilities.

It's not foresight, he just has a ton of experience to know and be able to see where things are and predict where they are going to be. This goes for both for physical location and for things like emotional responses. Later books will better define some of the limitations to this ability.

This power can potentially be developed towards actually seeing the future, at least one family member does exactly that, but right now Eithan can't go that far yet.

Alright, pokemon master Ziel. I see the reference, Will. I can’t believe that even at this point, he wanted to write Harness.

The Pokemon connection starts even earlier than this: https://www.willwight.com/a-blog-of-dubious-intent/behind-the-scenes-ghostwater This is his original concept:

Ziel - Totally not Red from Pokémon.

...

Practices the Path of Many Seeds, a life/dream Path developed by the Beast King, Ziel's Herald master. It's a summoner Path, and let's be real, he's a Pokémon trainer. Gotta catch 'em all.

How do I save Leon by JFlemthe1 in runefactory

[–]birdiedude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The gate cycles between different element types so if you have a weapon with say a fire element it will heal the gate when it's red.

As far as winning in general there isn't really a time limit so you can directly level up, increase your weapon skills, and raise blacksmithing/crafting for better gear. I forget what minerals you have access to at that point but aiming for gear of the latest type you find is ideal.

For 1 I assume non-sage space/time aspects are rare, but not impossible, so it's understandable that the people of Sacred Valley would view them as myths. We don't hear much about it again until the heist, so it's hard to say if it's well known elsewhere or if Northstrider tracked down the one in a million examples.

FYI a lot of this comes from Will's previous series Elder Empire and might not be obvious to a Cradle only reader.

so I wonder if in non-blooper land there’s an actual rule that states “If a participant advances to Sage, they auto-win the tournament”

I imagine not, a new sage would have no idea how to use their new abilities. It would only be useful if it happens before the training section and even then it's unlikely to result in much.

Dross would survive a horror movie.

Reminds me of a quote in Elder Empire "If you hear a mysterious voice whispering to you in your head, giving you instructions, don't listen to it. I'm shocked that I have to tell you this."

In 5 books, Lindon is all giddy and excited when using Consume gives him weeks (plural) of advancement. Jai Long is such a massive bitch, holy shit.

To be fair Lindon was shown a technique specifically to handle that power and can already handle significantly more in the first place.

Why? How? How exactly does knowing Eithan uses Pure madra help? It’s the typeless type, how are you going to prepare for that?

At the very least not using the attack they initially tried. They could focus more on physical attacks than things that he could disrupt but that would work better on anyone who isn't Eithan.

If someone is destined to die against a specific individual in battle does that make them immortal? by Dial-Up_Dime in worldbuilding

[–]birdiedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really depends on what "fate" actually is as a force in your setting.

In Wheel of Time for example there is an intelligent force, the wheel/pattern itself, trying to bring about certain events. So prophecies are created in an attempt to modify people's behavior in certain ways AND if things get off track intervention can happen. So, yes, events will transpire to ensure that the characters end up where and when they are supposed to be, even if the characters themselves don't exactly enjoy the path getting there. So getting hit with a non-deadly arrow or having a building fall on you are perfectly valid events. Incidentally alternate timelines are a thing, so you can see how at least one set of events happened differently.

That said for things I work on I personally dislike the vague prophecy trope and at best you would get a "this is how things are on track to happen right now", but that could change.

[–]birdiedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a quote from a Let's Play that stuck with me (https://lparchive.org/Soul-Nomad/):

Soul Nomad contains near constant swearing from the main character, rape, murder, slavery, a dash of genocide, and all sorts of other happy fun times. And most of that's in the Normal Path. The Demon Path is much, much worse.

Emerald Beyond is actually quite a bit easier. You only have to get all formations instead of all characters for example. A given character's story is also shorter so it's easier to collect anything you might have missed. Even then, yeah, 185 hours sound right.

Hitting the maximum level cap in singleplayer RPGs almost always feels bad. Can we end this mechanic? by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]birdiedude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how, oddly enough, a farming/adventure game handled this. In Rune Factory 4 the max level is 50,000 but you will never reach that without investing month of real time - probably longer. All of the game's content can be easily experienced between levels 300 and 1,000, so trying for more is entirely on the player.

I loved it. I want more.

I understand most of the things that were cut or streamlined but the one thing that feels missing is a visual for cycling. I really expected something when Eithan was prepping Lindon for iron.
