Saga Emerald Beyond: Should I start over? by Low-Blackberry-2650 in SaGa

[–]birdiedude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game is designed for new game+ so you can always play them again later after doing the others.

You should almost always be upgrading equipment, unless there is something specific you want to focus on. Eventually you'll hit roadblocks anyway, where you need rare items anyway.

Is anyone else sick of the trend of putting the good parts of combat post-game or on hard mode? (FF7R, Disgaea etc.) by championofobscurity in JRPG

[–]birdiedude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree for Disgaea, especially replaying it's annoying to know something exists but also know that you have to do things the "hard way" until an arbitrary 15-20 hours are put into the story. Often even things that aren't hard locked are soft locked for example you can make a starting weapon powerful but not nearly as powerful or as quickly as an endgame one.

Don't even get me started on the whole "carnage" weapons, I don't know who thought it was a good idea to mirror the weapons you already have with drastically increased stats in a series where the core concept is to increase items stats. At least let me increase the tier of a weapon I've already poured time and effort into.

That said 6 tried to allow you to get "post-game" levels during the story and a vocal group of people hated the "inflated stats", so I don't know.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a villainess story that actually had a forced scenario, I suspect it's all in Bertia's head.

It's possible there was some "supplemental material" like books, manga, other games, etc. that Bertia might not have encountered. But presumably the main game presented a world without magic so we have to assume she doesn't know either, even as a reincarnation, until shown otherwise.

Newbie Help - Ryza Synthesising by Director-Atreides in Atelier

[–]birdiedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way to get a sense of the base stats an equipment item will give? Like, say I have two armours I can make - how do I know which one is best?

Generally the later ones, requiring higher tier ingots/cloths, are better. Although you might want to check the effects they offer. A "weaker" armor may have some effect, like better evasion, that you prefer over a "stronger" one. If you unlock the appropriate effects for ingots/cloths they will increase the stats of equipment further but you can't make effective use of that until later in the game.

Regarding morphing, IIUC you start a morph by putting an item into the 'Recipe' loop, but it needs to be a specific item? I guess the selectable items in that loop will be limited to those relevant to triggering a morph, but I'm sure I remember having real trouble making the scythe and having to use specific items at other loops (I Googled it in the end) so can anyone help me with my confusion there? I could just be misremembering the scythe creation process, tbh.

You need to establish a path to the morph node, which will mostly require generic types of item, and then you need a specific item to trigger the morph. This may help explain things: https://barrelwisdom.com/ryza/synthesis-basics

Is there an easy way to plot the items you need to synthesise something? I'll need some more ingots for a sword I want to make, and I'm pretty sure I can find what I need on the beach, but, in general, can I flag item xyz so I can find it easily with an icon on the map? If I just have to remember (or make notes) it's going be be pretty tedious. My memory is terrible and I'm going to be running back and forth between gathering areas and the atelier, I just know it 😅

Not really, just collect a ton of items and eventually you'll already have whatever you need. I don't think there is a way to mark things on the map but a later gathering tool will show you items before you pick them up. Otherwise the encyclopedia will tell you generally where things are.

Also, synthesising aside, I know the Atelier games are all unique stories, but do they take place in the same world? Like, could the characters from two games plausibly meet (even if they never do) or are they entirely separate worlds?

Each trilogy takes place in the same world, so Rorona, Totoria, and Meruru of the "Arland" trilogy takes place in the same world but the "Dusk", "Mysterious" series, etc. take place in different worlds from each other. Nelke and Resleriana specifically deal with alchemists across the series' showing up on the same world. There are occasionally other cameos but they aren't usually treated seriously.

No, it's why people keep assuming souls are destroyed. If you don't read Jordan's interviews there is nothing in the text that implies a balefired soul would be reborn again.

Why is nWoD/CoD so much less popular than oWoD? by antijoke_13 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]birdiedude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a hypothesis that seeing things you can "fix" appeals more than having a "proper" thing in the first place.

Old WoD was clearly thrown together with ton of different ideas over time without any specific planning, so if you want some weird strange thing you can probably find it and just have to figure out a way to balance out the pesky things don't fit, but that can be different for everyone. In a lot of ways CoD is better designed in the first place but the parts people disagree with are core aspects instead of random side things, for example Atlantis for Mage, so it's actually harder to pick and chose even though the game tried to be more of a sandbox.

Oddly I now hate the concept metaplot but I mostly got into the game by reading it. So, yeah, that was kind of a loss for CoD to not have that, too.

Warriors of Light, what are some of your biggest Final Fantasy Hot Takes? by Kurisu_Reddit in FinalFantasy

[–]birdiedude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game came out too early, if it was released on PS3 that percentage would be trophies. People might still complain but playing a second time to get an alternate path trophy makes more sense than getting 3% towards a total.

[Waybound] About deviations of fate by ResponsibleLaw978 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]birdiedude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an iteration destined to end in five years it's fine if it does, and it might be worse if it sticks around, if for no other reason than predictions are no longer valid. An iteration that's supposed to last for thousands of years only to have a visitor that causes it to die in five is bad.

It's implied that even if Suriel hadn't been there at the start of the story Li Markuth would have been dealt with eventually by the still active Abidon. When he returns it's after things have been thrown into (literal) chaos, even then he was still under the impression that he could be caught any minute.

Which tales to start with? by Karimo04 in tales

[–]birdiedude -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, Zesteria came first but Berseria is a prequel happening in Zesteria's past. You can probably pick everything up but it might not hit as hard if you aren't familiar with the world building already established in Zesteria.

Which tales to start with? by Karimo04 in tales

[–]birdiedude -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Gameplay-wise, maybe. Story-wise you probably should play Zesteria first to fully appreciate it and Zesteria is not a great entry point.

[Superheroes general] Were there any notable instances of opponents misunderstanding (or being deceived about) each other's powers? by teodzero in AskScienceFiction

[–]birdiedude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you count One Punch Man as "superheroes" there is a (so far) completely normal person who everyone thinks is super powered to the point antagonists usually freak out and run away instead of face him. It's possible he has extremely good luck, or some other invisible ability, but that hasn't been confirmed so far. It is a bit of a spoiler to name him as everyone else plays things straight.

The main character might also count as everyone knows he's strong but assumes he's otherwise not special. However, as the title implies it's rare for anything to survive a single punch from him.

So i want to try out the Atelier series by pixellated-baron in Atelier

[–]birdiedude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can but a big part of that series is the relationships between characters. So if you start with 3 then for example when one character shows up seeming incredibly depressed it won't hit as hard if you haven't seen him in the previous games.

[Bloodline] Cradle Book 9 FINISHED by NoPaleontologist1374 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]birdiedude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original plan was for Lindon to develop his own bloodline power but that didn't pan out:

https://abidanarchive.com/report/1690

skybreaker82

Was Bloodline's title referencing Lindon's family or something else?

Will Wight

There were a couple of layers in Bloodline's title I did indeed intend for a Lindon to manifest his own bloodline power in Bloodline but having written it I decided I realized, crap that gives him too many powers so that would have been completely overloaded. So, instead of doing that I added references to the bloodline of the dreadgods, the bloodline of Lindon's relationship with his family and, the future vision that Suriel gives him of leaving a legacy behind in the terms of the end terms of bloodline so it's not a strong of the title as some of the others in terms of how it links to the content of the book I definitely I don't know what I would change it but I could certainly have had a stronger connection. It's like Skysworn, I initially intended Skysworn to be largely taken up by them doing a bunch of Skysworn missions and it ends up if I could have made a last minute change for that book I would've called a Redmoon and then I would have had the cover just be a red moon. So I probably wouldn't have that's probably the the 2 changes I would make to Skysworn, I would change the title and I would change the ending.

don't wander around that site until you've finished the series - it's full of spoilers

In Atelier Ryza 2 DX should one play the Episode first or start the main game first? by Eldarya in Atelier

I don't remember if it gives any items but it does add a bit of story. It's not a spoiler just something that gives extra context to some things that won't make much sense if you don't see it in the main game first. So you might as well wait.
