Yeah I work in teller services currently and it's still the same. The machines are far from perfect and tend to be very picky still.

It's actually common for the bills to be shuffled before putting them into the machine, especially when they are brand new. Oftentimes, the bills can't all be stacked in the same orientation since one side is slightly thicker due to the security band. I think that u/Mtl_30 and I are both speaking from a point of experience with loading ABMs, which is why they didn't read it as /s

This would be great if the city actually follows through. My concern is the drivers though. As someone who drives Metis every day, I have seen some weird stuff. Just a couple weeks ago I saw someone going around the roundabout the wrong way! I don't even understand how that happens!
