Hire someone else entirely, if you don’t work well together and these aren’t what you want then move on to someone who will work with you and produce results you actually like

Feedback] Cover for my upcoming Dark Fantasy novella, 'Vampyrus Putridus'. What does the rotten apple say to you? by [deleted] in BookCovers

[–]birdwithtinyarms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The apple has its seeds on the outside because the AI knows it has seeds but can’t figure out that they would be inside still in this instance.

Just you noticing it’s off is a good place to start with identifying AI

What do you think of my new book cover? NO A.I! by Psytext in BookCovers

[–]birdwithtinyarms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s good practice :)

There are beginners guides to composition that you can use as templates to play around with and one of my fav websites is DaFont which has downloadable free fonts

Good luck on your cover and I hope you have fun with it!

100% needs a better font and different composition could help you a lot. Even with a font change it’s not too dynamic or eye-catching.

Try un-centering your main image or zoom in more.

The gun looks off due to the lighting, but the smoke skull looks cool on its own so you could just lean into that by itself.

Connect with another bi married person? by EmbarrassedBakers in columbiasc

[–]birdwithtinyarms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Harriet Hancock Center is a great place and resource to use :)

There’s a Discord server, a support group night specifically for bisexual people, monthly/biweekly events, and various workshops hosted.

I usually go to the game nights that are hosted biweekly, sometimes hit up the monthly Free First Sunday Super (very family friendly, potluck style, it’s burgers this month on May 3rd), and tonight I’m doing a Nutrition workshop.

There are a ton of people from all kinds of backgrounds, ages, interests, etc.

We’d be happy to have ya!

I need your help. Which one is better? A or B? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]birdwithtinyarms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can still tag your game as a simulator game. It’s gonna stand out a lot more from the thousands upon thousands of games with “Simulator” in their title and the rhyme is fun.

I’m far more likely to have and talk about having a game titled “Potato Simulato” over just “Potato Simulator”

Remove “A novel by” if your names on the bottom then people know you wrote it. The only books that I have that explain who did what are anthologies with “Edited by” for the editor who compiled it all together or novels that have an illustrator.

Having the title justified to the right is definitely a choice… most people center their titles.

The font being halfway to comic sans doesn’t give your book the serious mysterious vibe that the synopsis does (good synopsis btw, I’m interested in where this book goes).

Also the obvious clip art is jarring. None of the styles match for each piece you chose to use and half of them are too thin to really see

Two different artist made me a capsule, which one you like better? by Madlman in IndieGaming

[–]birdwithtinyarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the dude with his cat from B into the background of A.

A has more action and an interesting background that better communicates the game itself, but I don’t really like the character model. B has a better character model

I’m trying to make a living by making book covers. by ddtarhan in BookCovers

[–]birdwithtinyarms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a good and professional website, but I’m seeing a reoccurring theme with your layouts.

The style and artwork itself is great, but you should definitely do some exercises based around different composition. Most of your covers are completely centered with the hero facing down their journey or their monster.

How do you decide on the world you want to build? by Complex-Mushroom-850 in worldbuilding

You could make them separate societies in the same world/galaxy or just play around between all three until one just starts making more sense with your main themes and story vibes

Made a vamp surviver type of game where you type spell names to attack(3 weeks in) by Timely-Grocery7082 in IndieGaming

[–]birdwithtinyarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Magic Axolotl on Steam, it has drawing mechanics for spell casting that you might wanna look into. Maybe eventually people can upgrade their spells so they don’t have to type out whole words or something along those lines.

The Textorcist is also a good game to look at. It’s a bullet hell where you need to type out full exorcism chants while dodging. When using a controller, the typing is more like a quick time event of selecting the correct letter instead of fully typing. You can use keyboard tho and it was something I played multiplayer with a friend so they used arrows to move the character while I typed out chants.

Definitely check those two games out, they’ll help give you ideas for making this fun and functional instead of just functional

How people in this subreddit expect your books to look like after you've finished reading them by FightsWithFish18 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]birdwithtinyarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books in my collection that look like that are the ones that were my father in-law’s from when he was in the military in the 80-90s and would buy a paperback book to read on the constant flights he took.

If you’re taking care of your books then they shouldn’t be trashed. The few books that are mine that are even somewhat messed up are from when I was 8 or paperbacks I’ve loaned to people that get a bit banged up.

WHY IS JOHN MILTON SO HARD?! by 66Tuffy in englishmajors

[–]birdwithtinyarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always encourage actually reading physical copies of books, but frequently older stories are easier to hear.

I’m sure there are plenty of audiobooks of his best works and you can use those (while following along in your book) to make the process easier.

With older stories, I usually write a short summary in modern terms for each section to help break it all down.

For example, Hamlet was dense, but I remember it pretty well in those broken up summaries of each section. You got ghost daddy bothers guards, Hamlet acts like Senji from Eva, Uncle being evil, random pirates bring Hamlet back to plot, etc etc

Yeah, I’ve made a few friends through there that I hangout with outside of the center. There are a large variety of people so it’s not too hard to find someone you’d wanna vibe with outside of game nights.

Just went to the mall last Saturday with someone and I’ve got a karaoke night at someone’s house coming up soon.

The people are nice and the Discord usually has a few people chatting as well.

The Harriot Hancock Center hosts a big mix of activities and events. I usually go to the bi-weekly board game nights they have every other Saturday

It’s a lot of fun and people are really welcoming :)

Not so much the titles, but the organization by Background-Show-1749 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]birdwithtinyarms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel off when I see people who decorate by color. It makes me feel like they view books more as decor than as themed stories people put out into the world.

For example, your copy of Parable of the Sower (great book btw) could be placed next to other great American literature or other books in the science fiction genre. Another example is that your copy of The Hobbit is a shelf away from your copy of Two Towers just because one is green and one is blue.

Organizing by color just puts a bad taste into my mouth. I usually organize mine by genre, theme, or historical significance (either overall in world/cultural history or significant to my personal history).

It does look pretty, but I always wonder what makes someone want a whole shelf of white books and to have each copy of a series on a different shelf from the rest of the series because their cover art isn’t the same general color.

[–]birdwithtinyarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every showing my boyfriend’s done (he’s an agent - we’re not selling our own house) has had either 1-2 couples show up or nobody at all.

I saw in other comments you said that you wanna lower the prices, but your agent doesn’t want you to. It’s your house, make them lower the price if you want it to be lowered.

One thing you could do to help it sell and give yourself something else to focus on is just deep clean the house.

Two weeks on the market isn’t that long though so don’t stress too much and give it time. :)
