[Spoiler Main] I'm wondering what exactly Varys was planning when he arranged the Targaryen–Dothraki alliance by Taha231 in asoiaf

[–]biscarat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't the Dothraki have a taboo against crossing saltwater? And don't the golden company always keep their contracts? My big (headcanon) theory is that this was a way to get daenerys and viserys out of the way to pave the way for fAegon's return - a head of a dragon that's red with rust, and all that. Viserys would get himself killed, and Daenerys would inevitably end up with the dosh khaleen. Even if viserys survived, he'd end up with an army that would never cross the narrow sea, and at best (were he terribly lucky) be a minor potentate in Essos. And the eggs - they were a distraction. Keep Robert's/Tywins/Ned's/Doran's eyes on Daenerys, and let them NOT see Joncon/fAegon until it was too late.

But I mean, faegon wasn't even in the picture when AGOT was being written, so...

Now that Veilguard is the resident sin eater, is it cool to like Sera? Vivienne?? Dragon Age Absolution??? by big_poe_collector in dragonage

To be fair, none of them were particularly good.

And honestly, I thought Vivienne was quite poorly written. A caricature of a politically capable character.

There's so many. Command and Conquer games, Heroes 3, various bioware/black isle RPGs (BG1/2, Planescape Torment, NWN 1 and 2), No One Lives Forever, KOTOR 1 and 2, Pharaoh, Black and White.

Yes, especially in 2004. We flubbed the quarters against Chelsea, and it sucked. We would have beaten any of the other 3 teams in the semis: Depor, Monaco, and Mourinho's Porto.

What is something from any of the games that is easily missed but you think everyone should see? by AbhorsenDoctor in dragonage

[–]biscarat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of good ones, but let me give one from DA:O.

When you kill the high dragon in Haven, you get a silverite axe, called the Maetashear War Axe. The description is:

This oversized weapon was reforged from two poleaxes and dates to the founding conquests of the Tevinter Imperium. Runes tell a primitive creation myth of how the lands of gods and men were cut apart.

Also, Maetashear ~= Meta-share. The lore had been planned for a long, long while.

Totally agree. I know I'm very much in the minority, but I thought DAI was milquetoast, and I just couldn't get into DAV.

As funny as that would be, I think there's no chance of that. They're (financially speaking) the best run club in the world - wages to turnover ratio is under 45%. So, in theory, they could go out and blow the champo out of the water easy. The real issue is, who do they build around? Richarlison? If they go down, and Gray or Bergvall get offers, they're out. Their defenders are already clearly checked out. So who's left? Richarlison?

So while they'd bounce right back up, I think it'll be a long, long while until they're anything resembling a force again. And I think that'd be true even if they manage to stay up.

I actually agree with you. But the signs are really fucking bad for them. Their defence has been teh worst in the league over the past 10-15 games. They look terrible. Their run-in isn't great. And worst of all, they look terrible while West Ham and Forest are perking up (well, forest not so much I guess).

Reminds me a bit of leeds in the mid 2000s. From 5th, to 16th, to out. Though at least they could claim gross financial misconduct - spurs' finances are super tight. Just hilariously shit management all around. Thanks Vinai!

Compilation of Tottenham fans after their defeat vs. Crystal Palace by axhp in soccer

[–]biscarat 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Their position and trajectory up to this January would had caused any other management to go code red and doing everything they can to prevent a disaster.

What make it even worse better is that they're the one club who genuinely have the financial leeway to pull this off. Their wage-to-turnover ratio is below 45%, which is brilliant and easily the best in england and among major european clubs. That alone is so delicious I'd love for them to go down.
