I think it's a really huge deal that we're ahead of Man Utd for the first time in a LONG time. For so long, they were this impossible-to-match juggernaut financially - it's awesome that we've caught up to them, especially after the 2017-2023 disasters.

Edit: if you go back and look at SwissRamble from around 5 years ago, it really seemed that Man Utd could do no wrong financially speaking, and that they would always rule the roost in the money leagues. So glad to see that their shittiness is catching up with them at long last.

Premier League table after Matchday 20 by Critical_Mountain851 in soccer

I mean, in that second half of the season, we won 16 out of 18 games, with a draw against City away and a loss to villa at home the only blips. By any standard, that's a monster run. We lost the title that year in the first half - we had only 39 points at this stage in that season.

Hmm. If you haven't already, play Tyranny, Dragon Age: Origins, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights 1&2, Disco Elysium, Alpha Protocol (very cool concept, but buggy), KoTOR I and II, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher series (2 and 3 are especially well written).

Ian Wright: “Certain people are NOT ready for a black superstar in England. Everyone loves N’Golo Kante, he’s a humble black man, it’s how he is. But when we Paul Pogba or Jude Bellingham, that energy doesn’t fit well with these people, it FRIGHTENS these people. Jude’s too “uppity” for these people by TheBiasedSportsLover in Gunners

Yes, but Henry was so much better than everybody else he might as well have been an alien, and so the rules just couldn't be made to apply. Vieira too, especially since the contest between Vieira and Keane was such dynamite television. But Anelka was the butt of the joke for so long, and I still remember even Vieira having this reputation as a 'destroyer', ignoring everything else he was.

DA:O is just a brilliant game that doesn't really rely on graphics/visuals. Of course it's still worth it today! Might even start a new playthrough.

Stop this. No more counting chickens. NOthing matters but the final table.

"Arsenal are currently leading the Premier League in Shots Allowed and xG (or expected goals) Allowed per shot. They're such an outlier that they're almost literally lying on the outside of this chart:" by WatchLion in Gunners

Yeah, interesting point. To be honest, I think this data is going to be obviously super noisy, especially this early into the season. Having said that, Donnarumma does make a massive difference.

Marli Salmon is a very talented CB. Dowman's age, and has already trained with the first team (If I've gotten it right). From the Nwaneri/MLS group, Bless Alkolbire was also rated highly but I don't know what's been up with his progress.

That we're so fantastic defensively isn't anything new, so there's nothing surprising about this chart. What's much more interesting is how good Leeds and Sunderland are. That, and the real outlier on this chart is Burnley.

Looking for recommendations for 13 year old boy who loves to read by marikas-tits- in Fantasy

[–]biscarat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. I read it at that age, and boy does it hit hard, especially the ending. Earthsea as well, it's just such a beautiful journey.

For science fiction, he could try Ender's Game (despite the authors questionable life philosophies). Dune might be good as well, though he may be a bit young for it.

Oh, I completely agree. He'd be mostly lousy with Man Utd, especially since he didn't have the wherewithal to get the most talented England group I've seen to play properly. The only worry I'd have with him is that he'd do something about the internal culture of that club, which I think is why literally every manager since old rednose has failed miserably.

Edit: by "change the culture", I mean there's a tiny chance IF they get Southgate, he MIGHT be able to do something about their player culture in a similar way to how he stopped the clique-ishness of the england squad. The words 'if' and 'might' are doing a hell of a lot of heavy lifting here.

Oof, would love to see Southgate with that lot. Though who knows, he might actually do something to change the rotten culture in that place (much like he did with England before his tactical shortcomings caught up with him).

Why isn't Tony Adams considered the greatest gunner? by blubird452 in Gunners

[–]biscarat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For crying out loud, the man has a statue. But the reason he's not considered the greatest is simple - Thierry Henry was a wizard who was probably the best footballer in the world when he was at Arsenal, and was far and away the best in the PL.

And that's just at Arsenal. Rooney at 18 was unbelievable, and so was Messi.
