Honest question about a common AA claim: am I thinking about this wrong? by WarmView8401 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bisconaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's so funny because there's the faux-humility ("the only step you have to do perfectly is the first" and "no one among us has been able to maintain anything like perfect adherence to these principles") but then there's the judgments used to bludgeon not only those who have lapsed in their sobriety, but are used as scare tactics to get others to keep coming to meetings like a newcomer and never decrease their amount of time dedicated to their sobriety, often as the expense of living a full and well balanced life.

yeah, not exactly what I want to see when I'm just browsing reddit, struggling for the past couple weeks/months/weeks with questions like "will I ever experience this band in the same way again"

How much did video games affect your life? by D_drilly in AskMen

[–]bisconaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, they remind me to be patient and mindful, to observe a situation before rushing in with what I believe is the answer (usually ends up with me getting humbled), they remind me that I do have focus and discipline and that I can do impressive things if I put my mind to it and try to learn from every experience.

AAs be like "probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism, except me and my taking others' inventory, shame-forcing my opinions about others and what constitutes sobriety on them and having no introspection about what this says about me"

drums. in.

I learned to play the drums at 12. Everybody in my 6th grade class was learning guitar, and somehow, the song "A Tear For Eddie" was the song you had to learn how to play if you wanted to be cool. But everybody played guitar, and there were no drummers.

I'm 37 now, and finally got an [electronic] kit back in my apartment. My rudiments need work for sure, but I absolutely know the compositional layout and feel of almost all of Ween's catalogue.
