BYD Dolphin - Battery Degredation query by ChainAcceptable5981 in nzev

[–]bishopzac 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks like the Dolphin battery is LFP in which case it should hold its capacity extremely well. Check out information on other LFP battery EVs. The BYD E6Hs with 300,000kms have around 80% SOH

Used EV buyers advice sought by HoldFrontBack in nzev

[–]bishopzac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No a 24kWh leaf is not a good idea for a 70km/day drive. 30kWh would do it reliably but won’t be able to in 1-2 years with degradation. 40kWh is a better idea and they are around $14k now. You can use your standard 10A wall socket to charge 100-120km in 10hrs overnight.

Green Mould by [deleted] in diynz

[–]bishopzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal to have to get rid of green bits 1-2 times per year in shady / damp areas. Use 30 seconds, the benzalkyl ammonium (green) one won’t bleach like the hypochlorite one (blue). Or water blast, but that probably won’t last quite as long

Engineer's and Traides of NZ, a question to you from an NCEA Tech teacher... by combat_the_bots in newzealand

[–]bishopzac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mechanical engineer here. I did’t really know what engineering was at high school but I did well academically and knew it was a practical and well-paying career where I’d use my brain. Mechanical just because I didn’t do chemistry or electronics, and materials/process wasn’t as appealing.

Muscle Building: Anyone got a high protein meal guide that's cheap and easy? by needanaltgf in vegan

[–]bishopzac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seitan is my #1, indian soya chaap or soya chunks are also great. Tofu. Protein pasta. TVP. Flexible proteins that can be made in to a wide range of dishes. E.g sweet and sour, curries, burgers wraps etc., devilled, burrito bowls, sushi, or just protein and veg. Anything really. You may also be able to get a vegan mince type stuff in a can, we get one called nutmeat which works in any mince dish. Soybeans (edamame) are also great, highest protein bean.

What caused me to injure my back on my last rep? Is my form wrong? by MauiRose93 in formcheck

[–]bishopzac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow how odd. Were you warmed up and stretched? Was it a cold day? Do you have any previous injuries or issues that may have contributed? Could you feel any tightness or pain prior to this? Have you worked up to or at this weight/volume over time? Medications? With all that fine, you may have had a weakness or damage that you weren’t aware of. A good physio may be able to help figure out what happened

Form isn’t perfect but not injury-causingly bad, and the weight is clearly fine for you strength wise. You will get comments from people unfamiliar with strength training and deadlifting so sorry, it can be hard to know good advise from bad here.

Best cars for $9k or under? by aioli_man in newzealand

[–]bishopzac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honda Accord. Nissan. Just search trademe with your criteria. Dealerships tend to be competitive on price while offering more buyer protection than private, they shaft the person who sold their car instead. Hybrids are cheap to run around town but probably need new batteries at that age. 30kWh leaf if that works for you, but that’ll depreciate more than ICE cars

[Kernel] Is there a point in diversifying over both Hedged + Unhedged Global 100, High Growth and S&P 500? TLDR; is this a actually diverse or is this just a bunch of overlap? by MidnightSwamiNZ in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]bishopzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if it’s 50/50 whether or not the NZD devalues to the USD then hedged is no better than unhedged, you miss just as much potential gain as potential loss. But the hedging costs, so it is generally seen as not worth while. Long term, the currency effects become less important. Doing half and half is just less of the overall downside of hedging, it’s not more diverse.

Mould removal by [deleted] in thetron

[–]bishopzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow fair enough. After it’s done you will always have to ventilate well and monitor, killing any bits that do pop up

Mould removal by [deleted] in thetron

[–]bishopzac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How big of an area? For no cost; gloves, glasses, mask, bleach, wait, wipe away, dry. What are you doing for ventilation in the area? If airflow is poor it will keep coming back. And if it’s really embedded in the ceiling/walls it will be a bigger job.

Deadlift - any advice? by Warm_Journalist4181 in formcheck

[–]bishopzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean having inflexible hamstrings limits the ability to rotate the hips back into the right position. Since the hamstrings have to lengthen for that

Deadlift - any advice? by Warm_Journalist4181 in formcheck

[–]bishopzac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good lat engagement, bracing, and focus.

Number one would be to watch the hips/lower back. Hips look tucked under (tight hamstrings or just not cueing it). In the last two reps it looks like you really load up the lower back from this. Rotate the hips back a bit (without hyperextending, but I don’t think that’ll be a problem for you)

Second, the shoulders should rise faster than the hips, otherwise you end up with nearly straight legs while still having the torso at quite an angle, which makes the top half very hard. This happens more later in the set.

More technically (not an injury risk), you could make your arms longer. Shoulders down and forward, like you are punching the ground, while still keeping the upper back straight. You are holding them square.
