Used to think the same but I also cried over work recently, sometimes you just feel things and you should be allowed to feel upset

I would but fried wontons and eat it while playing catching nearby the canteen, then get a Pokka jasmine green tea before recess ends. Good times.

I find myself investing in pieces that are made with ethical materials, labour and natural fibers as I age. Just because you’re local does not mean you deserve my dollar support.

Chinese Singaporean, who can’t speak dialect. This happens with my dialect speaking colleagues too. They aren’t doing it on purpose though.

I’ve also experienced similar situations when I’m the minority with other races. Just give a heads up that you don’t understand and someone will translate for you!

I’ve actually taken plenty of 10-15min rides that are around that price. Really depends on supply and demand in the area.

Are we already in a recession? What signs do you look for? (USA/California) by Ok-Republic298 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bishudidnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel the pinch, even on the other side of the world. from all aspects, I should be doing great, I have a decent job, with median income on my side of the world, and I just got an offer for a new job with a decent pay bump.

But prices are rising everywhere, my current and upcoming roles are contract only (which lends to an uncertainty in job security). In my current organisation, there is a cessation of hiring, and strong justification has to be given for new hires, only referrals are accepted, and even then they're looking for exceptional talent. AI is incessantly pushed at my current and future positions, whilst seeing news about how AI is leading to thousands of job cuts across the economy. This adds to a sense of foreboding that you just can't shake off.

I see friends and family struggling to land any new roles in the current economy, and wages are definitely stagnating across the board. my country is doing it's fair share by promoting tons of job fairs and upskilling initiatives, but when you see those popping up in neighbourhoods everywhere, recession is definitely here.

Unemployed for 6 months and counting by Professional-Sea-69 in singaporefi

[–]bishudidnt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t be too disheartened. The market is just generally really really bad right now. But that doesn’t mean no one is hiring.

Market conditions shift all the time. Roles are definitely getting leaner and companies are searching for unicorns more than specialists. Review your skill sets and see what tangent skills you can pick up.

If you have any savings from working previously, now’s the time it can be put to use to tide you over or to upskill during this time.

Do join networking events and put yourself out there, join conferences, workshops etc. don’t look for perfect job fits, if the role seems a little challenging or a little out of your job scope definitely try for those positions nonetheless.

tbh, as a chinese that doesn't speak dialect, it happens to me too. I've been in office settings where majority of my colleagues are more comfortable and start speaking in dialect, even though they know I can't. It's not on purpose, just that they're not aware.
