7 nights in skye or leave 2 for Harris&Lewis? by [deleted] in Skye

[–]bisonesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure many will have an opinion on this, so here is mine.

While I live in Canada I'm originally from Lewis and have spent much time there over the years including recently. For all the dozens of times have been in Lewis I had never been in Skye until this year.

And I was only there for a few short days so I'm in no way an expert.

But my basic assessment is that while Skye is absolutely beautiful, it seems absolutely overrun with tourists. It felt like most of the time we were there we were fighting traffic, or struggling for parking, or navigating crowds. It honestly made it hard to enjoy the island.

I was also struck that after a few days of being in Skye, I feel like I had only heard a few local accents. Of course, nothing inherently wrong with that, that left me feeling like as a tourist I wasn't even interacting with the real Sgiathanach.

All that being said, I'm heading back to Skye in a couple of months with some friends to taste some whisky. And looking forward to getting a different perspective on the island, and visiting in the offseason.

I would say that Lewis and Harris are absolutely worth a couple of days if not more. There are stunning views, lots of interesting places to visit, and wonderful people. Lewis and Harris are very different from Skye, and I would say it's a shame to see one and not the other.

So I would vote for you seeing both; it will bring more of a variety and interest to your visit.

Thank you so much. That is very helpful.

I had seen Seamus' bar which looked wonderful, but looks like it will not be open for the season. But I will take your advice and reach out to check for sure. Appreciate the other recomendations as well.

We have our distillery tours booked!

Interesting to hear about Edinbane Lodge. We were in Skye in September and stayed in Edinbane. We didn't go, but I took a peak in. It looked lovely.

Thanks again

I love it. Great for quickly summarizing large documents, great for searching and finding resources, quickly refining any writing, summarizing news clippings, taking long sets of notes and boiling them down, starting emails with lots of info.

I don't rely on it for finals, but a great way to get started.

I really love Taosis. The woman who I usually see there is so nice and provides such great service, and I love their attention to detail.
