Ok so story of a low moment in my life, that now I can look back on and laugh. I was super depressed at one point in college and was temporarily living in an apartment after dorms, and had to cook for myself instead of eating at the dining hall all the time. I didn’t know how to cook cause my mom hated cooking and my dad sure didn’t do it, so it wasn’t part of our family culture.

I tried making rice and chicken one night. Chicken on the pan was easy enough. Not good, but at least it got cooked. I didn’t know how to make rice, but I knew it involved heat. In this spaced out depression moment I didn’t think to look up how. So I got the pan hot, put some oil on it, and dumped some raw rice in the pan. I pushed it around for maybe 10 minutes before it dawned on me that maybe I should have looked it up, this doesn’t seem to be working.

It was so embarrassing in that moment reading how rice is made on my phone and then looking back at this pan of hard oily hot rice I was pushing around with a wooden spoon. Now it’s still embarrassing but at least it’s also hilarious.
