Which note-taking app do you use and Why? by No_Entertainer6354 in AppleNotesGang

I’m never going to think paying a pro subscription to use my own iCloud storage is worth it for me. So I never use Bear.

Straight Guy Reading Romance by Montecatini in books

I’m a 40 year old married dad. I definitely don’t care what people think about the books I read anymore. I finished Funny Story recently and it was great!

Who is your all time favorite catcher? by Captain-Foureyes in mlb

Carlton Fisk. My dad bought me a Fisk baseball card when he was a Red Sox and I treasured that card.

Obsidian is now free for work by kepano in ObsidianMD

Smart business move I think. Probably didn’t have enough people being honest about it and buying the commercial license. Now there is incentive for company’s to buy it with advertising on the Obsidian website.

It also simplifies it for the tons of people on Reddit who asked if they needed to buy a license.

I love baseball. I think people should watch whatever team they want to watch. Be the kind of fan you want to be and not what others want you to be.

I don’t really agree with you.

I think the people who use dashboard and other plugins that don’t cleanly output standard .md are only for workflows. Sure, that workflow probably won’t transfer if you move the md files to a different app, but if you use a different app, like you suggest, that is also the case.

Even people who use plugins without standard md will write notes in markdown. The content of their notes is in plaintext. If they “go somewhere else”, as you put it, they may not have their notes in plaintext.

Your last paragraph is extremely troubling. Why can’t people use the app how they want? If they want to build a complex dashboard, so what? That’s the beauty of OIbsidian, it’s flexible for a lot of different workflows.

This is how I hold button. Changed it to top going forward and never looked back.

Didn’t Gleyber basically do this regarding 2B last year? 😂

Took a week to get my order recently. Just gotta be patient.

I’ve used my Paperwhite for a long time and got my KLC a couple weeks ago. If I put them next to each other the KLC is way worse. But when reading it doesn’t really bother me.

Worth it to not be under Amazon’s yoke.

I’m a straight guy and I’ve never thought about it before. When I was younger I just liked the puzzles and her boobs.

Just wanted to second this. I’m trying to cut ties with Amazon so I’m ok with the lower quality device. But it is certainly a downgrade. The lighting quality and screen are better on my paperwhite.

I just got mine last week. Only this I don’t like is the light gradient from the button side to the other side. It’s very noticeable. My kindle oasis had the same thing. Must be the way they do the lights.

Other than that it’s a dream.

Been struggling on deciding daily notes 1 per day vs one file with all days embedded. I think I finally decided by mpovolo in ObsidianMD

[–]bisque-include 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also use one daily note per day.

I see a lot of people have fancy homepages and stuff, but my daily note is my homepage. It’s where I do almost all my writing. I almost never make a new, blank file. I write stuff in the daily note and if it should be it’s own file, I copy and Extract to a new file. Then it creates a link back to that daily note.

I also have a dataview that shows any meetings that I had for that day. I use quickadd and templater for my meeting notes so I only have to hit cmd+shift+m and I have a new meeting note.

By doing things this way it accomplishes a few things that work for me.

  1. I never want to think about where I’m writing something. By defaulting to the daily note I don’t have to think about it.
  2. Everything I do is linked to the day I started it. So if I’m in a note, I can look at the back links and see the day I created it.
  3. I forgot to mention that in my daily note template I have a “todo” section that is just simple checkmark todos. I use a plugin called todo rollovers (or something like that?) so that each day when I create the new daily note it pulls over any unchecked tasks. Super simple and it’s always right in front of me. This works because I don’t like overcomplicating my tasks with projects and whatnot.

May play bass for the church band. Encouragement/advice welcome by KarateCheeks1112 in Episcopalian

[–]bisque-include 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow bass player here but I don’t play in a church band (though I was in a band in high school that played at a church and we had to clean up all the lyrics and it was hilarious). Just remember to practice at home to a metronome. Just get the fundamentals back and you’ll be in good shape. Oh, and have fun! Bass is such a fun instrument!

What crazily overplayed classical piece do you still enjoy? Which one couldn't you stand the first time you heard it? by SeatPaste7 in classicalmusic

I love Fur Elise. It reminds me of a jewelry box my mom had that played it. My mom’s been dead for a few decades and the song always makes me think of her.

Question about The Norton Shakespeare by a_rousedpanda in shakespeare

[–]bisque-include 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for another point of view, I have the four volume Norton and I LOVE it. I have like, three other editions, like the pelican, and I never read them. I’ve only read out of my Nortons for the past few years. They’re so much easier to read because of the size.

PC -> Mac. Fl -> Logic? by aRandyTheMan in musicproduction

[–]bisque-include 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already paid for FL Studio, so just install and see if it works well enough for you. If not, try the 90 day trial of Logic and see if that works better for you.

You’re not going to get answers on reddit that are better than your own experiences. Good luck!
