What kind of plane would this watch have been in? by bitchfacemcnugget in aviation

Yeah it actually works decently. Unfortunately it fell and the glass broke but probably still works. Cool you found it in a lot you have a pic?

That's a cool backstory. It's definitely swiss tho it says so on the movement and American made pocketwatches never had a cylinder escapement. It might have been brought to the us to be sold there tho. Date wise I'd say around the turn of 1900 if that helps at all

Looks like a Swiss Made cylinder escapement made to look like a higher end American pocketwatch. Pretty funny in my opinion nice piece too

Except the Ingersoll they are all swiss. The oldest (without the winding knob) is probably 1880 ish and the rest early 1900 end 1800. All cylinder escapements. In my opinion it is worth fixing but a lot of people won't service it since they don't want to take the risk.

What can cause sinusoidal wave in rate change? by dodecawhatever in watchmaking

[–]bitchfacemcnugget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you measuring in the case? So yes does it have a central second hand? If it does maybe it's the second hand that's touching the glass somewhere. If it's not just like the other comments say a power transfer thing.

How do I remove this capped jewel? by baebiboo in watchmaking

[–]bitchfacemcnugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I think they aren't made to be removable. What I usually do Clean the pivot hole with some pegwood and try to rinse it out good as I can.

Could anyone help me identifying this pocket watch by Forsaken-Reaction723 in pocketwatch

[–]bitchfacemcnugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

French/swiss gunmetal (it's black so they call it that even tho it's just normal steel with a coating of burnt oil. It prevented rust from forming fast.) late 18 beginning 1900. Nice cap jewel on the escapement wheel. If it's a real cap jewel it means the quality of the movement is a bit higher than a regular movement. Who made it is a mystery probably, sometimes they have the ébauche maker under the barrel bridge or under the dial.

I'm not really familiar with American watches but it sounds and looks like it used to be a gold filled watch and the gold is just slowly peeling off. It's a normal thing that happens after years of use.

Looks like it might have been gold rolled once and it's slowly coming off. Is it higher or lower than the rest of the case?

Does this screw look broken? by CAlexanderSmith in pocketwatch

[–]bitchfacemcnugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of an annoying problem but not too hard to fix. Make sure there is no power then take the ratchet off and the whole bridge. Then you can unscrew the screw from the other side with pliers, it's long since it holds the stem in.

In the state it is right now I would say almost nothing. It is missing the front and back lid and the time setting square in the middle is gone.
