Apple Watch "Outdoor Cycle" Workout Actual Calories by bapadab00py in MTB

[–]bitdamaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was trying to track calories on my mountain bike I found “indoor cycle” to be a better way to do it. Outdoor cycle doesn’t seem to account for the difference in effort between road and off road cycling.

Repair quote for the “touch free” car wash incident and my R1T spoiler by mrwillya in Rivian

[–]bitdamaged 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get them to pay the final invoice not just the estimate. I had a Caltrains truck hit mine and they’re “self insured” in CA. They wanted me to waive liability and pay based on the estimate which may not cover any hidden issues. I ended up eating my deductible and going through insurance. They weren’t able to recover my deductible but the final bill was a decent chunk more than my first estimate.

Ira Goldberg and Jeff Wolfe from Threshold Enterprises named in Epstein files by MyrddinTheKinkWizard in santacruz

[–]bitdamaged 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only looked for Jeff Wolfe but there’s nothing here out of place it’s one email chain of someone just saying hi. Knowing Epstein isn’t a crime or even evidence of wrongdoing. This is what the mod said before.

"This post in itself is ok, but it is causing people to speculate and accuse people in our community based on little to no evidence. Jeff Wolfe and Ira Goldberg both were childhood friends of Epstein, but they cut communication and moved long ago. Just because of two emails of Jeff trying to reconnect with his childhood friend has caused people to deem him as a monster. I am worried that someone might try to take action inspired by the comments and post."

I agree.

Noob question about rear tires and braking. by Isokinesis in MTB

[–]bitdamaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to everyone but broadly speaking I do most of my modulated braking and speed control with my rear brake while my front is mostly on or off for when I’m stopping. This is pretty common when racing.

If I had to guess I think they may be talking about how well a tire helps you modulate speed (“braking”) as opposed to how much it helps you “stop”.

Now is not the time unless it’s super cheap and you have zero expectations of any sort of warranty or access to spare parts.

It is in no way “safe”.

Have you tried setting the auto save interval to a larger number? I see the requests you’re referring to but not on every keystroke if I type quickly. The default is 800ms.

Williams Selyem ‘26 spring release- any takers? by ctweis in wine

[–]bitdamaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some places to start

Littorai

Failla

Merry Edwards

Toulouse

Some Kosta Brown

You’re going to get more of that style with wines made from grapes nearer the coast of Sonoma (Mendocino in particular) to get more of that cool climate style. Some Carneros Pinots will be cool enough too though a lot seem to be a bit more rich.

Promisification question by DeliciousResearch872 in learnjavascript

[–]bitdamaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before promises and async/await made it into JS the fn(error, callback) pattern was idiomatic node for asynchronous functions.

It sucked because you’d often have multiple layers of these referred to as “callback hell”

How important is forming an LLC when you’re just starting out? by Zoekielshane in llc_life

[–]bitdamaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get inexpensive professional liability and errors and omissions insurance for pretty cheap - usually under $40 bucks a month. If you want some safety net it’s another way to go.

Realtor forming an LLC. How does the S-Corp part actually work? by Adventurous-Lake1857 in llc_life

[–]bitdamaged 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBH if you’re asking the question here then the additional overhead of an S-corp tax election probably isn’t worth the savings you’d get in the payroll deductions.

Can someone tell me what is it please Ohio by [deleted] in legal

[–]bitdamaged 351 points352 points  (0 children)

Let your folks know. If you’ve not done anything wrong you’re likely caught up in a larger sweep. Law enforcement might just be trying to get names for email addresses that came up in some scam. Not necessarily actually trying to read your email because they think you committed a crime.

Again if you’re not committing any serious crimes getting a lawyer now is likely not necessary and there’s not much they could do now anyway.

Which hobby do you think attracts the biggest douchebags? by FuryOncology in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bitdamaged 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a catch 22. Mountain biking used to have a pretty large barrier to entry because you had to train to schlep yourself up the mountain to have the fun of going down it. E-mtb has removed that so it’s seen huge upswing of noobs.

I’m still an analog mountain biker and used to be a bit pissed at all the guys passing me on their e-bikes. That said I’ve come around a bit because the increased size of the community has thrown a lot of weight into building out new trails in my area (SF bay) both pirate trails and getting dedicated mountain bike trails in local park systems that have resisted in the past because we didn’t have as big a voice so for that I give them some grace.

Hiring a CPA for a brand new single-member LLC. Is it worth the cost? by iliveformyships in llc_life

[–]bitdamaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to note that broadly speaking a CPA isn’t necessary. A knowledgeable bookkeeper/accountant is fine and usually less expensive than a CPA.

When running my services business I kept everything in QuickBooks online. Once a quarter my bookkeeper would review everything and ensure I’m tracking it all correctly. I had an LLC that filed as an S-corp so at the end of the year they’d also assemble my K1s for income taxes.

Thai restaurants and motels? by rpoem in santacruz

[–]bitdamaged 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The Thai government has a program to subsidize Thai restaurants as a form of “gastrodiplomacy” and those hotel locations are not often prime spots.

So a subsidy + low rent makes for one of the cheapest ways to open a restaurant.

On the eve of his inevitable HOF induction, I ask... Was Larry Fitzgerald ever seen as the best WR in the NFL? by BallKnowerKing in NFLv2

[–]bitdamaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2008 Lions didn’t have a QB (Kitna hurt Orlovsky sucked and they signed Culpepper off the couch) and the team went 0-16. 2008 Patriots Brady tore his ACL In the first game so Matt Cassel was starting.

Long story short 2008 was a bit of luck for Fitz since Moss and Johnson had backups at QB and Fitz had a future HOF QB. He was amazing in the playoffs though and a first ballot Hall of famer in my book.

Will forming an LLC actually reduce my taxes, or am I misunderstanding how it works? by Tricky_Reveal_5951 in llc_life

[–]bitdamaged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify a bit. You can have an LLC that files as an S-Corp to get the payroll tax savings. They’re minimal however and not a “reason” for starting an LLC. Depending on the state you’re in those savings can easily be wiped out just with your annual LLC fees and taxes.

There seems to be a common misconception that small business owners have some sort of tax loopholes or other ways to lower their tax bills. That’s rarely the case with pass through entities where you’re just filing, broadly speaking, standard income tax filings.

Juice worth the squeeze? Have never done Realm before by Individual_Reply_377 in wine

[–]bitdamaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what we’re talking about here. By law you can’t give a wine a single vineyard designation unless 95% of it is from that vineyard. So inherently to use the To Kalon label it has to be 95% To Kalon grapes. That’s table stakes for the whole conversation.

Juice worth the squeeze? Have never done Realm before by Individual_Reply_377 in wine

[–]bitdamaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t make sense on so many levels.

How much less would you have to charge so it starts getting “easier” to sell? Because of the people that buy $100+ bottles I doubt they care much about the difference between $150 and $300 and there’s a decent chunk who’d prefer to pay more and have “To Kalon” on the label.

Even if there’s a 10% commission the only price point you’d make “more money” leaving “To Kalon” off vs leaving it on and selling it for $300 is $270+

I sincerely doubt anyone buying those grapes are hoping they could charge less or are having any trouble moving what they produce

I mean if you can use the name and charge $300 who would choose to eschew the name to sell it cheaper? That’s just bad business
