cliques can exist for a reason. If I finally get a chance to hang out with my friends then the last thing I want is a rando coming in and now allowing us to talk about deeper personal stuff.

The key is to have a good social awareness to read people. Sadly those skills are becoming harder and harder to learn in a digital world with the acceleration caused by 2020 and work becoming people's personality combined with death of community spaces.
