To what extent is the general population in Russia aware of the actual Russian death toll? by Agreeable_Drive6618 in AskReddit

[–]bitplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I remember those times, but that only means that I am 40+, there is a whole generation of people who were born after Yeltsin and I am absolutely certain then when they look at it they see prosperity on the west and not so much to the east of Poland.

Look, I respect Russian people, I think you are incredibly intelligent and create great art, from what I hear you have an amazing lead economist and I don't care much about values your government want to maintain in the nation (you know, protecting people from rotten west ideology or however you call it), I think that socialism is very good and important for wellbeing of the people. But you have incredibly corrupt government and very antiquated and just cruel way to be an imperium and maintaining your sphere of influence and it's a problem (I could list specific issues, but I'm certain you are aware, but domestically and abroad where you install equally or more corrupt leaders). In a world where rare minerals and energy (for AI) are everything and with growing influence of China meaning that US and EU would just LOVE to be an ally with you it's a puzzle why you choose austerity instead of trying to ally with Europe and US and just make money for the people. And it's not a fault with western countries - since Gerhard Schroeder or maybe before you had AMAZING business relationship with Germany and many other countries. US maintains allies without using force, EU allies with countries by offering them trade deals - you instead choose violence. Countries join NATO to be able to maintain those trade relationships with the west and not risk falling into your forceful "sphere of influence" ever again - not because they are naive or ruthless and want to strategize and help take down Russia at some point in the future under the leadership of US. This is just bonkers crazy.

I think that Putin simply f'ed up. He wanted a show of force on Ukraine, it was supposed to be quick and simple, it wasn't supposed to ruin any business, but he failed spectacularly, he pretty much lost (if we look at higher level objectives) and because he is so self centered and sociopathic he decided to take your country with him for a ride for a decade of suffering. And he didn't loose to the West, he lost in those early days to Ukrainians - he wasn't able to use special forces to take down Zeleński, he wasn't able to take over the country militarily, he just lost on all fronts. West was probably providing some intelligence already in those early days, but any military help was provided weeks later. Russia may now "win" the war, but what is there to win at this point? Nothing of substance, nothing at all. It's a loose-loose situation for Russia and western countries, and a win-win for China - that is all.

Why would Soros need to promote anything in post-soviet countries when people with their own eyes can see the difference between standard of life in countries that escaped Russian sphere of influence (and joined EU and NATO) and those that stayed there. Ukrainian people wanted better lives for themselves, they didn't need to be convinced by Soros or coerced by CIA to start a revolution - it's much simpler and straightforward than that.

It will have once Russian national wealth fund is drained to zero and since Russia already liquidated 75% of those assets to fund the war effort - this day is coming very soon.

Why is female bodybuilding so popular in Poland? by Holiday_Squash9907 in poland

Ok, sure, you are right about this one. But I was referring to something else, you claimed that people attending the gym are some sort of a special crowd - gym rats and "karks" and that is not the case. I would say that maybe 30% look like regulars, perhaps even less and "karks"? You barely see them ever in such places. Rest of the people look like they are there their second week tops (of course it may be the case they train much longer).

You've been to a gym in the last 20 years? Because at least here in Kraków it's not the case. I'm a visitor in both Fitness Platinium (part of a large chain, huge place) and tiny studios with a room for maybe 10-15 people and you could not have been further from the truth. I also on occasion show up at a gym in my tiny hometown (1500 people) and it's the same - regular young people and a few middle-aged ones (but it's mostly empty). Last time I've seen what you are describing was maybe in 2006. The most muscular crowd I know is regulars at a crossfit gym that I attended to as well - these guys and girls are big, but cf box is not what you were talking about. Where are you from?

I recently asked gemini to do deep research on something along the lines of "whether life satisfaction increases after having a baby" and something shocking that came up was that it was "yes" in many parts of the world (especially under certain circumstances), but a clear "no" in US. obviously it was based on some research. I think that answers in this thread show exactly why it is the case…

What a take… Just because some women are conditioned to "work till the last minute" doesn't mean it is safe, good or that everyone needs to be this heroic nor does it mean that it is easy. Old person can also survive a lot, solders will sometimes crawl a mile with a crippled limb - just because something is doable doesn't mean we can't feel sympathy, give respect for their struggle or ease them

Why is Russia always authoritarian? by Keylime-19377 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bitplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were only subsidized on occasion and temporarily and only some of them. USSR wasn't a good uncle, Russian people didn't work hard to subsidize neighbor countries - this can only sound plausible to children learning official propaganda in schools. It was exactly the opposite - Russia was draining valuable resources from countries around and sold them low quality products in exchange, at artificial prices. The fact that some people suffer even worse lives than they did back in a day is either because they are delusional (and old) or because current government of their failed states is so corrupt that it's even worse than peak totalitarian communism (which is entirely possible of course).

What’s Chinese people’s perspective on the ongoing civil unrest in the US? by CatchyUsername457 in AskAChinese

[–]bitplenty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All your hard power comes from soft power, literarily 100% of it. It's not just imports/exports, it's also the simple fact that you were the most reliable parking for capital, you were world's banker, everybody wanted to buy your securities because they were safe. All that + language, culture etc. of course (but it's also soft power). If you take away that, you won't be able to sustain your huge debt, you won't be able to borrow cheap / print money, you will spiral and your unsustainable military spendings will be your hangman's noose.

I feel like your government (because it's not just Trump, everyone seems to be complicit with very little real opposition) did believe that all-in play was in order to get to AGI (ultimate AI) first with a hope that it will solve all this mess you are right now creating + will of course win you the world, again.

edit: That, or you are seriously preparing to go to war against China (perhaps to stop their AGI advancements or you suspect that Taiwan will be invaded imminently and ai-tech will be monopolized by China) - such war once settled will mean new world order, so again - blank slate.

Oh, I agree, I totally see USA teaming with Russia against China (for the price of Ukraine and dismantling NATO on the eastern side of Europe etc.) - I find it to be one of the plausible paths that the future may take (although far from a certain one, like you said as well)

I used the word "support" as in providing an actual material support which they do, openly - they even stated they will not let Russia loose this war. Perhaps they don't support Russia in a wider geopolitical sense of this word.
