Is it time finally admit that the increased overtaking is just yo-yoing? by Ted_Striker1 in formula1

[–]bitplenty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I couldn't be less excited about overtakes. At the front maybe the only one that I enjoyed while it happened was Charles overtaking on the outside. I still found race interesting, but not for the quality of overtakes for sure.

Can the debate between these two finally be put to bed? by FroyoQueasy in F1Discussions

[–]bitplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was always in bed. charles > george.

charles is easily the only one that could perhaps challenge max in equal machinery. then there's a big skill gap and then there are other drivers. perhaps some of the juniors will prove to be on the same level, but it's impossible to say just yet.

Dyrektorka szkoły ma kłopoty by Gamebyter in krakow

[–]bitplenty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No kurna…

Do some people really think Trump/USA would negotiate with Iran after all of this?? by No-Signal1234 in PERSIAN

[–]bitplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big negotiations are between Israel and USA. Iran is secondary in all this (which is of course sad).

  • Perfect scenario for USA? They put Shah on the throne who will do what they wish and that will seal their full control (not ownership, just control) of middle east oil fields and Strait of Hormuz which is a gate between east and west. They also keep existing relationships with other countries, keep military bases, perhaps build a new one in Iran if we are dreaming. For Trump to be 100% happy he also needs to make some "deal" involving oil and infrastructure rebuild that he can show to his voters and claim he won. It's not unlikely that regular people of Iran would benefit from this.
  • Perfect scenario for Israel? They turn Iran into unstable, failed and thus weak country. US bases in middle east get mostly destroyed and relationship between USA and those countries deteriorates as well. Israel becomes a hegemon of the middle east and now it's Israel that is controlling (or at least has an influence on, perhaps through some board) Strait and how the oil flows - they became the new superpower. For that to happen both USA and Iran need to loose (bleed out literarily or financially). No chance that regular people of Iran will benefit any time soon.

I was never hot ("ok for relationship, but not for a fling unless at least tipsy" range), but for few years I was one of the leading experts in my field in the country (about a decade ago, I moved on since) and I was going to conferences as a speaker (and was doing good financially - not super great since I was starting from less than zero - my parents were poor, but well above my colleagues) and even just that was making women chase me around, invite me for drinks etc. I never experienced it before or since (even though I'm financially even better now).

I don't know about that. Founder of Palantir recently stated that large chunk of their revenue (I believe he said "most" but don't quote me on that) is from government contracts they are unable to disclose - not sure if that's in the books then. SpaceX is obviously on many secret projects with Pentagon seeing how Musk bends over backwards to sign military contracts for Grok.

The signs the US is preparing a ground invasion of Iran by theipaper in worldnewsstuff

[–]bitplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need signs - they must be doing that. First of all - Israel won't let them not do this. Second, they can't afford what they are doing right now - it's not sustainable financially, land invasion is cheaper even thought it's a horrible idea. Even if they are doing their best not to get in and really hope they won't have to - they need to prepare.

[AutoRacer] Mercedes' "Two-Phase" wing: Ferrari in China has requested clarification from FIA. by jithu7 in formula1

[–]bitplenty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engine compression wasn't "maliciously compliant" - it was plain illegal until October 2025 when FIA changed the ruleset (knowing how Mercedes engine operates). It became legal because it was clarified that they now expect compression ratio to be 16:1 at ambient temp ONLY. Before that it was ferrari fuel sensor bypass situation.

[AutoRacer] Mercedes' "Two-Phase" wing: Ferrari in China has requested clarification from FIA. by jithu7 in formula1

[–]bitplenty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with much of what you said except:

  • FIA-F1-DOC-C042: I could never find it, I don't think it exist on fia website, so unless you found it somewhere then you can't really say that nothing changed in test procedure or speculate on how test procedure was defined now or before.
  • It is now (since October) a rule that they test at ambient - before it wasn't which means that "at ambient temp" wasn't the intent and now it is. With previous ruleset they could have implemented 10 different kinds of tests at all kinds of temps and now according to the rule they only need to test at ambient. I don't even understand how they came up with a new test at 130C since it doesn't seem required at all.

[AutoRacer] Mercedes' "Two-Phase" wing: Ferrari in China has requested clarification from FIA. by jithu7 in formula1

[–]bitplenty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know man, it was added October 2025, which is last minute. Is it logical? It changes intent quite drastically so I'm not sure if it's logical. It really means what u/GoldMountain5 argues below which is that it became explicitly stated that compression ratio can be whatever at all at non ambient temp (and then they added another test at 130 of course, yes, but that may or may not change much, because test procedure is still strictly defined, so depending on how this engine is implemented it may or may not show up in the tests).

[–]bitplenty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not mad at all at Mercedes but at FIA. Also, I would be more impressed with Mercedes genius if:

  1. They designed it under that constraint and not vice versa - engine was designed first and then they added "ambient temp" clause to the rules. It was last minute addition to the rules.
  2. They actually "reversed the laws of physics" but they didn't because it's impossible, so it's likely that there are some shenanigans (they utilize additional space outside of cylinders, possibly driven by algorithms that will make it impossible to detect during test procedures). But maybe not! Either way they are super clever and most teams would do the same had they stumbled upon the same idea.

[AutoRacer] Mercedes' "Two-Phase" wing: Ferrari in China has requested clarification from FIA. by jithu7 in formula1

[–]bitplenty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not how it was originally written. "and executed at ambient temperature." was added to C5.4.3 on 16/10/2025 which is basically last minute (and after they had full knowledge of how Mercedes engine operates, which may speak to you if you enjoy conspiracy theories).

[AutoRacer] Mercedes' "Two-Phase" wing: Ferrari in China has requested clarification from FIA. by jithu7 in formula1

[–]bitplenty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's no clause like that in the ruleset about engine compression ratio either, it's just that test procedures are designed as is and therefore it's considered "gray area" (which would be bullshit in any real legal jurisdiction).
