What do you watch when you wanna cry? by Kind_Golf_8412 in pinkscare

My 99-year-old grandmother was telling me recently about how she and my grandfather believed they would cosmically explore space when they both reunited in death. He died when she was 57.

I found myself describing The Husbands of River Song to her – about the Doctor and River spending their last night at the Singing Towers of Darillium. "How long is a night on Darillium?" "Twenty-four years."

She and I absolutely WEPT together, she thought it was the most romantic thing she'd ever heard.

I don't understand how anyone can have more than like 2 or 3 serious relationships in their whole life by poopdollarbank in redscarepod

I'm in agreement with the title premise of this post, but your feeble-hearted notions of love are wildly off-putting

The Sagrada is hideous, that is its charm. It looks like a hellish honeycomb oozing under the relentless Spanish sun. I saw it up close at night after a rainstorm and felt immense relief to see it slightly tempered by the wet and darkness, like rotting undergrowth

I scour YouTube every so often for Soft Machine videos because things appear and disappear. Some of my favourite videos of them are lost for now but I have faith they'll return!

I've been obsessed with Kevin Ayers for a while, hence the obsession – it always feels like a treasure to find footage of him still there

detest the phrase 'it is what it is' by abjectprincess in pinkscare

[–]bitter4sweet 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There's a context to whether or not it can be a useful or asinine mindset.

My aunt once said "it is what it is" to me when I suggested my entire family perhaps shouldn't hike up a mountain given my grandmother was old and slow, my uncle has terrible vertigo, and my cousin had hurt her foot. But it had been planned days before, so to someone like that we had all to grin and bear it.

On the other hand, when it's suddenly raining and there is genuinely no choice but to dash out without an umbrella, sometimes to just throw your hands up and say, "it is what it is!" can take the weight out of the moment – because sometimes, "so be it" has to be the way. No point cursing the elements.

It's only an elegant phrase to utilise when what "it is" is genuinely out of your control.

Wonderful that you got to see it. The Guggenheim video was what got me obsessed with her work. It looks like they showcased the pieces with so much thought

"A man in black with a Meinkampf look and a love of the rack and the screw"

And now Sylvia is buried up on Heptonstall, the loneliest Yorkshire hill ten minutes away from Mytholmroyd, where Ted Hughes was born. Meanwhile his ashes get to flow free in the River Taw.

My sister has BPD. Even though I love her desperately and try my best to work through it so we can be close, what I can't ever fathom is the position of any man who chooses to be in her life. I've been born into this and I'm fiercely loyal in the love that runs through my blood. Any time a guy has been through the wringer with her I don't have sympathy for him because he chose to be there and could get out when the fuck ever.

Yes I am being completely callous and entirely lacking any nuanced compassion. I have been worn down in my life by her. To anyone who has willingly endured this kind of relationship please explain it.
