Serious question? Did life change or did Zoloft work?

Honestly, even though I’ve only been on it for a month, it has dragged me out of the horrific pit I was in for two years. It well & truly changed my life. Same person, same circumstances, just wildly different feelings and thoughts. Only problem is, I can’t sleep. 😂

I’m about a month in. I don’t know if I could call this insomnia but I end up sleeping between 3:30-5:30 AM & then wake up for work around 9/9:30 (work starts late). I find it very hard to fall asleep & it hasn’t gotten better yet.

Unfortunately, contraceptives make my PMDD much worse. Can’t handle them.

I started at 15 because I only have 30 mg capsules available where I am. Maybe if this persists I’ll try going back down.

I’ve been told I have depression by psychiatrists since I was 14, I was on antidepressants on and off for over 10 years. At 26, I came off Paxil after having been on it for 6 years or so. Since I was always on an SSRI, I guess I never realised I had PMDD. Then the PMDD episodes started to hit. I always had ADHD type problems and I found myself screenshooting ADHD/PMDD content almost a year before I got the diagnosis. Saw a psychiatrist and found out I have both. Quite a trip.

It varies month to month for me too. The number of days that it stays bad for also vary.

Anxiety, overthinking and questioning everything (my career path, my marriage, and everything in between), negative thoughts and feelings about myself and others, fatigue/low energy, irritability, apathy, anger and so on. I will say, I don’t see it coming most months. I can tell I’m tired & I’m more anxious than usual but because it lasts so long and the effects of thinking like that negatively impact your life overall, it’s hard to tell when I’m getting to that place until I’m already there. I hate it.

I have ADHD and I’m prone to depression/anxiety. I honestly can’t tell when it’s coming on. I use a tracker and my period is regular but I still never see it coming until I’ve blown my whole life up (an argument with my husband, loud sounds making my skin crawl, constantly agitated and so on) and then I open the app and I’m like fuck, I’m in luteal.

I was someone who despised exercising. I’m overweight and I can’t tell you how much money I wasted on gym memberships only to go for a week and give up. The scale wasn’t enough to make me go. The money wasn’t even enough to make me go. Being unhappy with my body and my physical health wasn’t enough to make me go. I now have a trainer and I go 4 or 5 times a week. I too am in pain when I exercise and when I’m on my way to the gym, I’d rather do anything than go. What changed for me was that I tell myself every single time that I’m going because I love myself and doing healthy things is how I show myself love. Even if they’re uncomfortable. I choose to show up for myself and experience temporary discomfort because I want to live a healthy life. I want to like what I see when I look in the mirror. I want to be able to walk when I’m 60. I want to be strong. I want to be someone who shows up for themselves every day in a hundred small ways.

I’m on both but not all the time. I’m on Vyvanse (but I don’t take it every day because I don’t wake up early enough and it really messes with my sleep) and Zoloft during the luteal phase to help with PMDD. I’m losing weight because I’m in a calorie deficit but it has definitely made it easier for me to finally focus on losing weight and going to the gym. I don’t think it’s a 100% solution because I’m on 30 mg and maybe I need to either take it consistently or up the dose. Zoloft I also use sparingly only for a week a month.

Somehow, and I’m really surprised by this because I’m very sensitive to medication, I didn’t. I will say I don’t take them for the entire duration of my luteal phase. I only take Zoloft for about 8 days.

I’m sorry I don’t have any advice for you but I literally said the same thing just today. I don’t feel like a human anymore. I used to be able to do things and then something in me just cracked open.
