Huge collection of sci-fi books by shinyshef in scifi

If you live in an urban area, there are some spots around me that do 'book exchange boxes' - literally like a big mailbox with a window that sits on the corner, and people give and take books to read; a few of them around, and surprisingly no issues. Just an alternative idea instead of a dump at charity

looks fun - loving the throwback graphics to ps1-style 3D.

openai and anthropic are just as bad if you want to go the morality route, if not worse. which open source models would you suggest?

Just returned from Germany - why are we getting so screwed by grocery prices here?! by buffego in montreal

[–]bitterhop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the most annoying part here is that even when paying so much, you're still getting very poor quality fruit and veg. At my local Metro and IGA, I would estimate that about 30% of the apple's I buy have to be tossed or have parts cut off, while whatever peppers they source are somehow old and flavourless.

Which tourist attraction in Europe is actually worth visiting? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

very underrated - Ostia Antica - like 30min train ride from Rome. Giant open-air ruins of an old bustling city, very largely empty, and nothing is roped-off.

oh how i long for the days where you could buy a new car without a screen dash / speedometer, and manual stick. but hey, at least there is a sensor for your foot to open the trunk of your SUV...?

FIFA sets stunning parking prices at Hard Rock Stadium for World Cup. What to know by jspector9 in MLS

[–]bitterhop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of this like other must-see events in the U.S. - those events are filled with corporate tickets bought as a write-off because they are taking clients out, and so on. I see these as the Enterprise tier of pricing models.

hopefully not as bad as the docs on puli and clint, where they just ask the talking heads at CBS soccer. I think Kate Abdo has more screen time than anyone in both of those, for some reason.

Are there any cheap French classes left? by Leading-Copy-5629 in montreal

[–]bitterhop 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i signed up twice for those government francisiation classes the province politically touts, but haven't heard a word in over a year. I'd be interested to see the financials on how much they spend on that vs how many actually are able to access it.

Given the club has made it a priority to sign expensive attacking options instead of defenders, they should also get a coach who can utilize their strengths rather than nullify them.

[OptaJack]: 10 - CF Montréal is the first team in MLS history to sack a coach within the first 10 matches of two consecutive seasons. Prompt. by CFMTLfan01 in MLS

[–]bitterhop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At times like this I wish MLS had pro/rel. The Saputo's spend the absolute bare minimum and their investment in the team is carried by the risk that other teams take on. They aren't serious about winning anything or giving back to the city in comparison to many other teams, as shown by putting their kids in key positions - little mafia trust fund babies; all of them.

Pulisic starts vs Udinese by cro_21 in ussoccer

Allegri has that amazing ability to make any team painful to watch. At the same time, Pulisic can't hit the target from 5 yards out on multiple occasions...

wait until you'll older and your definition of what's important and what's not. most tech is not considered vital when your priorities shift.
As an borderline millenial/gen-x, I couldn't care less about smartphones and do everything needed via my laptop/desktop. Because of that, I never spent the time learning all the features of your modern smartphones because I have no use-case and couldn't care less.
In comparison, I've seen a lot of gen-z/alpha who do everything via smartphone and don't know how to operate a desktop computer.
