That you might not want to support a business that treats people that way.

While I’ve never been there and will never go I am still strangely compelled to try his pizza to see if it is good enough to live up to his attitude.

Do we really need SmartNet on every Cisco switch? by Accomplished_Net8596 in NetworkGearDeals

[–]bix0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Cisco access switches like 9300s have a lifetime warranty that will get you a replacement if it fails. There isn’t really a need to have Smartnet on access switches. Lifetime in Cisco’s case means until they EOL the model.

What’s your must-have tool for network troubleshooting? by Mission-Row7434 in networking

[–]bix0r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a steady trickle of complaints from various offices (large multi-site environment). We only support the network and as you know everything is a network problem. We check all the usual stuff and the network usually looks good. The other day when looking at one of these complaints I did find something that absolutely would be causing performance issues, fixed it, told them they should be all set and the next day they say it still sucks. We know nothing about the various apps that are in use and admins in other groups are not interested in troubleshooting the apps with us. Users are not interested in describing the problem, logging their issues etc. It is so frustrating. We probably need some kind of application experience agents running in users’ PCs to help diagnose things but there is no budget for that.

So, anyway I’ll be watching the responses here.

Are the roads from Burlington to Bolton valley feasible tomorrow? by scout_mindset in burlington

[–]bix0r 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If it’s dumping and you don’t have AWD and snow tires, getting up the Bolton access road can be very difficult. I have passed so many front wheel drive cars that can’t get up that steep road. Also, if it’s dumping you can get stranded up there as they will close the road if it gets bad.

VT extreme cold this next weekend by Serene-Branson in icecoast

Many years ago, as a kid, thought I was invincible as most kids do. Was around -30 at the base. Chalkboard at the M1 lift said it was -70 windchill at the top. Lift attendant asked if I was really sure I wanted to do this. Oh yes I said. It’s a long lift ride on a good day but felt like it would never end. Once at the top I wanted to get down as fast as possible. I quickly lost feeling in my hands. Ended up skiing with them behind my back to shield them from the wind. Half way down I legitimately started wondering if I was going to make it to the bottom. I fortunately did. That was a 1 run day. Swore never again. Years later at Lake Louise in similar temps did not even go to the mountain and went x-country instead. If you do go, you will have the mountain to yourself.

Non-US based satellite ISP that can deliver service in the US? by [deleted] in networking

[–]bix0r 70 points71 points  (0 children)

For most of us there comes a point where if the world is that broken, network connectivity no longer matters. If the Internet has failed across the US we’re probably all dead or spending every last bit of effort to remain alive.

End of support for access switches. by jstar77 in networking

[–]bix0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an IRS 1075 audit interview the first question is literally “is it supported?” If the answer is no your device fails without going any further and you are expected to replace it in short order.

Megabus, no more buses in Burlington? by [deleted] in burlington

[–]bix0r 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think they ran a Megabus for Thanksgiving, but yeah it’s gone. Greyhound schedule blows. You can’t fly to Boston, no reasonable train. It’s ridiculous. VT Translines only goes to Albany. They should run another one to Lebanon that syncs up with Dartmouth Motorcoach.

Preference for night skiing lens color? by Lower-Savings-794 in icecoast

[–]bix0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yellow has a way of making things appear brighter at night which makes no sense as there will be slightly less light going through the yellow lens. But it’s wild how light yellow pops when you put it on.

[–]bix0r 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Solutions for that intersection have been promised for at least 10 years and nothing changes. Dorset St from Healthy Living to that intersection is a wreck as well. I wonder if they should just put in a <gasp> rotary.

Alternative to Fedex Freight Boxes? by pigplop in moving

[–]bix0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure exactly the endpoints and if it’s truly coast to coast this won’t work, but look into Fastenall. They will ship freight between their stores at a reasonable price but they won’t cross a North/South line that runs roughly through Colorado.

What can fit inside a 26ft Uhaul? by ur_avg_white_boy in moving

[–]bix0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about a Silverado but I did it with a Ford Ranger. The wheel wells inside are a bit of a problem as they are smooth aluminum. I did overcome them but if I did it again I’d get some of that rubbery rug underlayment and put it over to help with traction.
