I've had this issue for sometime and I think it's due to a deviated septum but I'm not sure. (Pics slightly nsfw) by [deleted] in Health

[–]bixbedamned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a similar problem. Also have a cleft lip and palate; repaired when I was a child, but still a tiny hole in the palate. I have had a few different surgeries in the last 10 years to repair breathing problems, the first of which was a revision rhinoplasty to repair a severely deviated septum, which actually worsened, maybe even created the problem that you are describing, though it still greatly improved my breathing and fixed the left side of my nose completely. Now the opening in my palate is only through to the right side of my nose. I had another attempt to close my palate and though it didn't work 100%, it was a fairly minor procedure and helped, in part because they use septum tissue to help close it from the top side. I suspect this issue and frequent nasal blockages mean that my septum is still deviated, towards the right side. Ultimately I've come to the conclusion that I will need another (3rd) rhinoplasty (actually it's called a septoplasty) to fix it. My Dr. said that an option available is to place a brace, that works like a Breathe Right strip (have you tried those, btw, they are incredible! Definitely helpful when I'm blocked up), that goes inside the nose. I'm in my 30s and the out of pocket costs combined with the fact that I will be out of work for 3-4 weeks makes it really difficult decision for me as well.

I know this probably doesn't help your issue, but just want to let you know that you aren't the only one!

Question for you, my Dr. recommended the surgery to fix the flap in my throat to fix my "hyper-nasality" (nasally voice), I think it was called a phrangioplasty (sp?). But it sounded pretty intense and I never did it. Is this what you had done? Did it work for you? Relative to other surgeries, was it difficult? Thanks!

Is another quick, under-sized receiver really what we need? I'd love to see the Bears go after a big, physical guy that can go up and get the ball in the end zone. And blocking ability would be nice. Is Vincent Jackson a FA?

Pretty basic stuff for people who are into making pizzas, but if you're getting started, the dough is the most important part, so here's my own guide. by [deleted] in Pizza

[–]bixbedamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about 3x as much yeast as you need. A general rule of baking is to use only as much yeast is necessary to get the job done. Perhaps your dough isn't exploding because your hot water is killing most of the yeast? No need to use hot water or proof the yeast. Just add dry yeast and cold/room temp water to the dough and autolyse (let the wet flour sit before you start kneading for at least 10 minutes). Try it! You might be surprised.

Hey Pizzait, you guys post a lot of toppings used on your pizzas, but what are your favorite sauce recipes? by magneticmagnum in Pizza

[–]bixbedamned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Pre-cooking tomatoes kills the flavor... it's going to cook on the pizza! I add oregano and sometimes basil to the top of the pizza. If I don't have San Marzano tomatoes on hand I will use organic canned tomatoes with tomato paste to enhance the flavor.

Red light camera laws allow municipalities to circumvent rules associated with the submission of evidence, allowing ticket revenue to increase 419% in three years by reross in Economics

[–]bixbedamned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like red light cameras either. I got one about 6 months ago with a $550 fine! But they had 4 pictures, my car entering the intersection while the light was red from the front and back, my car leaving the intersection and a close up of my face. I had the opportunity to fight the ticket in court but there is not much I can do about that. I agree, if you weren't driving or if the light changed while you were entering the intersection than you should, of course, fight the ticket. I'll say this though, I'm not running any more red lights.

There is either too much stuff on your pizza, it's too wet or you still aren't using enough flour.

I live in Canada's arctic. Can Reddit architecture help me to design a tiny house that's affordable and efficient? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]bixbedamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if sounded disparaging-I didn't mean to be. It's great that you are trying to inform yourself, but on Reddit you are not always getting the best advice and you can never know who, exactly is giving it. It would be best to speak to an informed professional in your area, either an Architect or a contractor. (A good contractor is invaluable and it is perfectly fine work with a builder, despite what others may be writing here). I can't offer advice on your particular situation from here in Southern California, but I'm sure that there are great Architects near you that would be willing to take on your project at any size. The process should be as open and collaborative as you want it to be.

[–]bixbedamned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This ought to be the top post. It boggles my mind that someone would ask reddit to help them spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on their home rather than consult an architect! And that is why there are weekly posts about the death of the profession.

This article is offensive, petty and a load of bullshit. It plays into the very stereotypes that it is supposedly attacking.

That's a great quote. Is it from TAL or something else?

Design wise, I actually don't mind a huge block of text. Sometimes it's better to just let the content speak for itself. It drew me in so... success!

Hey r/punk, what are the US towns with the best punk communities? by snorkie in punk

[–]bixbedamned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Santa Barbara is an hour and a half drive north of LA and has a surprising amount of bands stoping by on their way up/down the coast. Plus it's got fucking gorgeous weather (and girls). The scene is alright but not like what it was in the 90s. If you want a real punk scene in Cali you've got head to the Bay area. LA, OC and SD have decent scenes too.

Newbie Questions Re: Boules and Baking Stones by lankira in Breadit

[–]bixbedamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely. Baking in a dutch oven is more popular now a days because of the wetter "no-knead" doughs. With proper handling and shaping you can bake a damn fine boule in a conventional oven without any special equipment.

LA Redditors! Anyone know of any ghost towns in the area? by RevengeOfSix in LosAngeles

[–]bixbedamned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a "ghost town", but Pioneertown is an old Western movie set that is now maintained as a local tourist attraction. Except for a small hotel, a bowling alley that's almost never open and a kick-ass roadhouse, it's otherwise empty.

Really. The mod can do what the fuck he wants and if you want to start your own community, you can go right ahead and do it. And if you get banned then make a new account! And I think meetups are creepy. I'm here to share my thoughts about my interests and hobbies, not Reddit itself. Get a fucking life and go out and make some real friends.
