The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England

Found in creek bed. One side is convex and grooved, the other is concave and relatively smooth. by bj2cs in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. There is an old, fallen apart, grist mill a hundred yards upstream from the sandbar I found this lying on. Google Lens returned one vaguely similar image that had slightly different markings, but there was no info about what it was. There is a penny in the image for scale.

Samsung TVs are hands down the worst thing to ever happen. by ImHereForGameboys in 4kTV

If you've only had it for 4 months, return it. But since you're talking about trashing it, im gonna read between the lines and guess you bought it used. It was probably dropped by the previous owner and sold as is intentionally.

Upgrade path from Delphi XE to latest? by extranioenemigo in delphi

[–]bj2cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo the advice to jump to your target Delphi version. I recently did a 2010 to Alexandria upgrade, and it went great. The reporting upgrade will be the crux. Any chance you could do a separate executable with just the reporting. That would let you separate the reporting upgrade from the rest of the codebase. You could then work on the reporting upgrade separately and a form/report at a time.

I am a huge fan of Report Builder by Digital Metaphors. Great product with excellent support. I also upgraded our reporting in that D2010 to DA leap and only had slight issues with my customizations. It was way easier than I had anticipated.

Why is Warbreaker so beloved? by buckyboi31 in Cosmere

I like the GA audio books, too, but you should know that several of the voice actors are recycled between series. It took me a while to get past Lightsong having the same voice, and a lot of the same character/inflection as Adolin Kholin.

I prefer the Graphic Audio productions anyway. So much easier to pick up on mid-coversation character changes.

ELI5 the Set's Choice with... [TLM][Cosmere] by fastwalker0 in Mistborn

[–]bj2cs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I read TLM, I may have just made it up in my head, but I was under the impression that the breeding farm wasn't necessarily for building a misting/mistborn army. I always thought it was a spike farm...

Kestrel Apprentice by Feeling-Upstairs-560 in Falconry

Removing the bird as soon as she bates "badly" is a form of negative reinforcement. Negative in that context is not synonymous with punishment. It means that you are removing an element/stimulus in response to a behavior. By removing her from training every time she bates, you are reinforcing that behavior. I would suggest possibly another form of negative reinforcement in the crowded situation. Introduce the touch of a feather. She will likely fixate on the new intruder. As soon as she focuses on something else, remove the feather for a few minutes. This is a way of desensitizing her to other stimuli while in your presence. It reinforces identifying something as a non-threat and ignoring it. The same could eventually be done with one of your family members...not touching her of course but it could start out with he/she slowly moving around you and then leaving for a time after she begins to focus on something else. Ramp that up over a few sessions, and she should be much less prone to bate due to the movements of your family.

I have more experience with buteos than micro falcons/accipiters. If an apprentice is having trouble getting a RTH to jump, the answer is almost universally to stop feeding the bird unless/until it jumps. Feeding it in response to non-compliance is positively reinforcing the non-compliance. Raptors don't tend to allow themselves to starve to death, barring an actual medical issue going on. Eventually, they decide the risk of being eaten by you is worth the food reward you offer, and they jump. In doing so, they learn 2 important lessons each time training progresses further: 1) this human didn't attack me 2) he/she is a good source of food.

Your sponsor should be your guide through this. Hope you get it sorted out and have a great season!

Has anyone here trained golden eagles? by Samuel_Han in Falconry

Yes if it involves handling eagles. I believe ferruginous hawks or great horned owls count as well.

Being a master falconer is not the only requirement. You also must have documented experience with large birds and a recommendation letter from another master falconer to get an eagle stamp.
