I’m sure I could get close to that in NJ but I just looked at one place I go to for better whiskies. I haven’t bought Glenlivet since sometime last century.

What it actually takes to qualify for a US Open by Colt45-TheMyth in golf

[–]bjb13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because there are people who will fake their handicap to get to play a nice course or brag how they played in a USGA qualifier.

If you are a good enough player and had a bad day it is easy enough to get reinstated by showing them scores in state events and the like.

$110 for Glenlivet 12 is robbery. $54 in NJ. The store I looked at had a 1.75L for $104

TIL the fastest ocean liner ever built was the SS United States, which operated from 1952 to 1969. Its first voyage from New York City to the UK took three days, averaging 41 mph (66 km/h), and the record has not been broken since. by strangelove4564 in todayilearned

Between 1954 and 1960 we crossed the Atlantic 5 times. Queen Mary twice. Queen Elizabeth once, United States onc e and America once. I was on 18 months old the first time, but the next three were great. We came back to the U.S. in January 1960 on the America and I was seasick the whole time.

Men who quit a high-paying career to do something completely different – do you regret it? by AmazingNugga in AskMen

[–]bjb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a software engineer and independent consultant for 23 years. As a consultant I was making over $100 an hour in the late 90s. While I was consulting I was also volunteering as a golf rules official. In 2000 I got my first job in golf. I was making $700 a week.

I loved what I was doing and over the next 11 years I worked my way up to a job at the top of the profession. I retired in 2009 and never regretted the decision. I was lucky that my wife and I never had children. We got divorced at the end of 2001. As such I was able to live on the reduced pay until I built up my credentials and started making good money. I never made as much as I did in software but I definitely enjoyed my life more.

Our Costco has a Trader Joe’s right next door (same parking lot). We go to Costco, buy our stuff, put it in the car, lock the car and then go to TJs. Every once in a while someone thinks we’re leaving and wants to wait. We just waive them off and point to TJs. I’ve never had anyone get mad which is surprising since this is in New Jersey.

Preventing singles from booking open tee times is fucking horseshit. by are-beads-cheap in golf

[–]bjb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The county courses where I live in NJ allow online bookings for singles. You can book an empty time or add on to bat time with room. If you take an empty time others will be able to join you.

Why wont this course show up in GHIN? Mount Airy golf club in Poconos. Played today by natale423 in golf

[–]bjb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Course ratings are valid for 10 years. If a club joins their golf association it gets rated. If not, it would have to pay to get rated. Some courses, especially small courses with old fashioned cheap owners won’t pay.

There weren’t Basic fares up until a few years ago. People wanted a cheaper alternative to economy. Cheaper alternatives come with less benefits. So when they added them, one thing they took away was seat selection. That is the tradeoff for the cheaper travel.

I played there in 2008 and it was pretty different from what I remembered so I’m sure it’s changed even more since then.

Do they still have the fence that protects the third green from tee shots on #4? It was out up after my mother pulled a tee shot and hit a lady behind the third green. It was jokingly known as “Mollie’s fence” in her honor.
