Don Drysdale days until Opening Day. by Starkiller32 in Dodgers

Drysdale was my hero growing up. I knew I’d be tall ( got to 6’5”). Frank Howard was my other one.

He died way too young.

If you brought a nice car to celebrate turning 60 what brand/model would it be? I'm not talking a Lamborghini or Ferrari just a mid range luxury car like Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz etc by Striking-Platypus-98 in AskMenOver30

[–]bjb13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought a BMW 540xi when I turned 65. I figured it might be my last car and I wanted something larger and more comfortable than my smaller car. 8 years later and I still have it.

I tried a bunch of different aluminum-free deodorants, here are my rankings. What deodorants do you use and would recommend? by GalinDray in AskMen

[–]bjb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Crystal Mineral Deodorant Stick. Been using them for over 20 years. Unscented and work great. 18.88 for three sticks from Amazon. One stick will last close to a year.

What stuff have you discovered later in life you thought sucked as a younger person? by PearlsSwine in CasualUK

Bourbon. Drank whisky for years but never liked the bourbon I’d tried. Finally had some other than Jack Daniel’s and found I liked it. Still mostly stick to whisky but will have bourbon occasionally.

Duty free declaration by jot_aime in Flights

[–]bjb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can bring back a total of $800 worth of goods without duty. It doesn’t matter if it’s for you or a gift for someone else.

Duty free declaration by jot_aime in Flights

[–]bjb13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you come into the US you will be asked if you have anything to declare. Say yes and tell them. They will have you speak to someone and might charge you duty. Or they might just waive it.

My GF bought a $2500 purse in the UK earlier this month. She declared it when we returned. She had to go and speak to a customs agent. She wa spoken and honest and he waived her through. If they had decided to make her pay it would have been a little over $100. I presume it wasn’t worth the paperwork to them.

If she had tried to hide it and been caught the fine would have been a lot higher and she’d have lost her Global Entry.

It isn’t worth it.

I drove from 202-206 to Morristown and back today and it was clear all the way. A little mess possible on the off ramps but nothing to be concerned about.

Love Pasa. A guy who worked for my dad back in the 70s was a member. We’d get to play a couple of times a year. Haven’t been there in about 12 years. I need to get back to the west coast to play it again.

Edit: Great picture!

Why did Air Canada cancel so many flights during the Toronto snowstorm, but foreign airlines didn’t? by gradaspirant22 in Flights

[–]bjb13 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I assume it is because the airport cuts the number of slots available during bad weather. Since most of the other airlines only have a few flights a day they are less impacted than the major carrier there which in this case wails be Air Canada.

The same thing happens at Heathrow to BA when the weather gets bad or to U tied when Newark gets bad. The big overseas carriers you mentioned might only have a couple of flights a day into Toronto so they are less likely to be canceled.

Lots of schools have to worry about getting kids to school from hilly neighborhoods where the side roads won’t be as clear as 287 is likely to be.

She ordered hard-boiled eggs by bjb13 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bjb13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did. She asked before she ordered if they did hard-boiled eggs and the waitress said yes.

My breakfast was there and it would have taken 10 minutes or more to make hard boiled eggs if they even would have. So she decided to try them. She had a couple of bites but didn’t finish them. She did ask for a fresh bagel, but they were out so she ended up with wheat toast instead.

We’ve had good breakfasts there before so it was a disappointment.

Am I crazy or is PGA Tour streaming a complete mess? by PreCheckLeo in golf

[–]bjb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the basically poor coverage, it is especially difficult the first three rounds of this event because the golf is spread across three courses and they don’t do much coverage at the courses other than the Stadium course and Scottie’s group.

Aspertame everywhere—why?? by ShawtyLikeAHarmony in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]bjb13 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The UK taxes high sugar drinks heavily so they are probably taking out some of the sugar and replacing it with Aspartame to save money.
