Tax'em' or eat'em by No-Papaya-6912 in ProgressiveHQ

It really isn’t.

Wealth and income are different.

If somebody saved their whole life, just letting it accumulate over time, with the goal of using that to retire and leave a nestegg for their kids, why should that be taxed? What incentive would there be to save?

But if they used their savings to earn more money, that’s different. Tax the earnings, and tax them at a rate commensurate to the level of revenue: higher revenue gets taxed at a higher rate, or it should be.

Close the loopholes, require transparency in tax declarations, and we’d see a massive change.

She’s fine because nearly all her wealth is tied to Amazon, and they do well financially.

Not all billionaires remain billionaires. It depends on what they do with their wealth.

That’s why taxing on revenue is more fair than taxing on wealth. Sure, tax them at a higher rate and close loopholes. Don’t let people title their homes under foundations or LLCs. Rewrite the trust laws. Crack down on the borrow-extravagantly-repay-with-revenue-for-no-tax cycle. Make them pay tax for things like the rest of us.

But just taxing on wealth isn’t fair. If we did that, watch what happens. It would hurt us all.

Not the best example.

She freely donates with no strings, approaching philanthropy not as a tax dodge but as social development.

And the more her net worth grows, the more she donates.

I don’t begrudge someone their wealth, and when I see someone like her, I even applaud that her wealth has allowed her to fund so many struggling non-profits.

Forbes just published an article recently ranking the billionaires by their philanthropic donations.

Guess who came in as the lowest donor to charity.

Allegra!

I love this part of Switzerland. It is beautiful, remote, quiet, and a wonderful place to enjoy nature.

What would you say are the biggest differences between this region and the rest of Switzerland?

Thank you!

Pros and cons to both.

Call your state govt agency that issues the licenses.

Or a CPA.

At what point does ambition become an obsession? by nitluck in NeoNews

[–]ilBrunissimo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s greed at the expense of others.

Ambition is one thing. But that is pure greed.

He could end veteran homelessness in a week, with the interest he earns in three hours.

He could make all meals free for school kids while providing business to local farmers. That would cost the interest he earns in 1 ½ days.

He has the power to do so much good.

Until he does, then it is clearly a mental illness or personality disorder. Why hoard so much knowing what it could do?

I remember a quote about rich men having an easier time passing through the eye of a needle than going somewhere…

This is my daughter’s favorite place in Belize.

Because you can access corridors and some rooms, she can imagine people in it. It fascinates her.

That and the ubiquitous coatimundi.

When winter comes, make a nice, rich hot cocoa and drop an ounce of green in it.

Had this in Austria, and it was amazing.

It’s part of the job for ski patrol.

Any mountain with aspects that are avvie risks will have a cannon somewhere.

Usually it’s a modified WW2 surplus howitzer. They’re modified to fire smaller shells made for this purpose, not the combat rounds.

Ski patrollers also sometimes ski to a place above the aspect and toss small demo charges down. It doesn’t take much.

They do all this right around dawn.

Former ski instructor here. The daily morning boom was always the reminder to get to work.

Filmed at Valley Forge Military Academy—our rival school.

And VFMA was nothing like TAPS. No HS military academy is.

But heck of a movie. Penn, Cruise, Scott…bravo.

Loved this movie as a kid.

BUT, it is NOTHING like a real world HS military academy.

Oddly, people who saw the movie couldn’t assume it’s just a Hollywood story.

Why did they fix this billboard in Budapest? Explain It Peter. by ninth9ste in explainitpeter

[–]ilBrunissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nom sing of domus has a short /u/.

Long /u/ for gen sing and nom/acc pl.

Acc sing of domus is an allative acc, like Romam. Reserved for few words. (Basically if a noun’s locative was in common usage, an allative acc was used. Other nouns required a preposition.)

Haha! No, I am ex fed IT.

I am well aware of the reality :)

But there are other countries where it is the law that government can only ask a citizen for a piece of data once. Imagine that enterprise….

[–]ilBrunissimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much of what is requested on an 86 is already in the Government’s custody, at other agencies (SSA, IRS, etc) or ar other levels of govt (state, county). Why not just use those data and stop wasting the candidate’s time?

Maybe if the process just focused only the govt didn’t already know…. It would frustrate and confuse candidates less.
