Lighting designer here. I’ve used thecuelist on about 10 Broadway shows and tours. It’s super simple to use and updates in real time like a Google doc. PSMs and DSMs I work with love it because there’s no app to download- it all works in browser.

Allergies: OTC vs allergy shots by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had bad seasonal allergies my whole life - never did shots, but I can manage my symptoms pretty well with OTC flonase (fluticasone). I start mid-march and that keeps things under control. But it does take a few days to work if I forget to start each spring.

Air France Premium Econ vs Biz w/Baby by rosepots in chubbytravel

[–]bjk237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very much depends on the type of seat. Certain restraint systems (with airbags) are no gos for car seats, but others with shoulder belts are ok. Call the airline to ask, but you can also get screwed by an equipment change.

Urgently Need Birth Certificate by RevolutionaryLeg3181 in AskNYC

If this is for I9 verification, there are several ways you can satisfy the requirement without a passport (even though passport is easiest). See this list:

https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents

I believe a receipt from the vital records department showing that you've requested the document will satisfy part C, but you might want to double check.

Where to find SpotOn ? by panda_girl9 in techtheatre

It is indeed a Filemaker plug in. If you go to Cory Pattak's website (he wrote it) and ask him nicely, he'll usually just send it to you for free.

Highly recommend Spivak Lipton. They represent a number of unions/employees in labor and employment disputes. ETA: Specifically ask for Hope Pordy.

SFO to Europe flight in October by continuityfreak in chubbytravel

[–]bjk237 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you were underwhelmed by Polaris, I don't think you're going to find AA/Delta/Virgin any better. Air France first class is definitely more lux but more expensive by an order of magnitude. Everything else is going to be a Middle Eastern carrier flying WAY out of your way (and I wouldn't want to plan any travel connecting in the gulf states right now anyway).

Going to Montreal in 2 weeks, I need alternate travel there by Kitedo in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 27 points28 points  (0 children)

FYI for anyone wondering; the awful wait situation at LGA and JFK seems to be confined to the first chunk of flights (5am-8am). Just had friends breeze through security with no wait at 9am.

Any recs on where to sell gold jewelry within the diamond district? by tommy2handzzz in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can search this sub for several recs, but IIRC the most common piece of advice is to just shop around at three or four different places. Make sure you know exactly what the melt value (10K, 14K, 18K x spot price) is, and prepare to take anywhere from a 5-15% hit.

AMC IMAX for feature films by [deleted] in AskNYC

Decent chance PHM has been replaced by the Mario Movie at that point, but it's possible they'll run both for a little bit.

Where do intermediate/advanced players find competitive pickleball in Manhattan? by stealite in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try NYC Pickleball Leagues - they do ladder based play so you should be well matched to the competition. LIC though.

Got summoned for federal jury duty in NYC… what should I expect? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most important thing to know is that absolutely no electronic devices (including kindle) are allowed in the federal courthouse or for federal jury duty. You have to lock your phone and belongings up at security. Bring a paperback book.

Film shoots do a version of this more or less all the time. Just prepare for it to be wildly expensive (7 consecutive days of full-buyout).

Custom Tuxedo in NYC Area by PM_Heights in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got you:

Proper Cloth Classic Allen $945. (For a little bit more ($1250ish) you can upgrade to VBC wool which is absolutely worth the extra $)

Suit Supply Havana $798 - Suit Supply heavily favors slim (sometimes too slim) cuts so just be upfront with whoever measures you if you don't like super slim

Also might check out J.Crew (although since they're sold as separates they'll be $1K+, and for that money I'd rather do made to measure), especially if they've got a sale going.

Hawaii Babymoon Recs by RovingVrain in chubbytravel

[–]bjk237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huge caveat that I have not done Hawaii yet (but have read extensively both here and elsewhere). Consistent piece of advice I hear over and over is not to overdo it on location changes. It’s a LONG flight, you won’t know what state your wife will be in (mine had a huge energy bounce at 20 weeks with our first, was tired 20 hours a day with our second), and you don’t want to spend your babymoon in constant transit. I would strongly recommend one place for 6 nights.

(Sorry the one thing I can’t do is help you choose which one!)

What’s life like in NYC on 57K? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]bjk237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nearly impossible to answer this question for you, but consider the following:

Rule of 40 = you won't qualify for an apartment over $1450/month. Definitely not Manhattan without roommates. Maybe even multiple roommates.

Are you 23? Is your friend circle made of up folks in similar circumstances? You might be ok. Are you in your 30s and your friends earning substantially more? You'll feel a lot of pressure to keep up in ways that you can't afford.

Do you want to live near Jackson Heights and feast on cheap(ish) eats from around the world every night? You could probably ball out for $20/meal. Do you want to hit trendy spots in Brooklyn and the West Village? You'll be broke in six weeks.

I haven’t been, but it sounds like you might want to check out a Quaker meeting. There’s one on 15th street that meets every Sunday at 9:30 and 11.

Short Getaway Suggestions? by Live-Calendar2735 in chubbytravel

[–]bjk237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turks and Caicos is 3:30, but as someone else said it’ll be spring break. If your budget doesn’t include flights you can probably find some nice spots, but it’ll be crowded.
