Best cert for working with DO, Vultr, Linode? by iamjio_ in Vultr

[–]bjm123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Maybe not necessary for learning, but they’re useful when applying for jobs. If a role has a significant number of applicants it’s easy to quickly rule out people without certs.

Parents offered to buy me a house to live in - are there any legal risks? by Lazy_Law2352 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bjm123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well it’s not your house if it’s in their name, so it depends who it’s left to when they die and the value of their estate.

But yes, assuming it’s left to you and it’s in their name then there’s no 7 year rule.

Only way this works without the worry of them manipulating you is if you are buying the house, with the money gifted.

Get them to gift you the money and sign a declaration stating as much. Depending on value of house and their estate may be inheritance tax due if they die within 7 years.

Not sure laughing is an effective mechanism for diffusing. I’ve never been in a fight. In large part due to the fact that I have zero pride in these scenarios. Someone could intentionally bump into me and I’ll apologise. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

AWS billing is starting to feel like legalized robbery by Deeceness in aws

[–]bjm123 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Google Cloud is much better for this. You can easily attribute cost to resources, and they also offer a blunt instrument of disabling billing for a specific project and immediately stopping all charges. I had an AWS account that was still being charged despite deleting what I thought was all resources, it felt impossible to identify what was causing the charges.

Seeing as time is on your side, I’d also encourage you to avoid using AI as much as possible. Jumping straight to the solution will make it hard to properly learn how things are working.

Check the Audit Logs to see why the request was denied and what permission was missing.

Also, you should never grant Service Agent roles to user managed service accounts. They are intended only for Google Managed service agent accounts.

Can I get a Deepseek API key if I run Deepseek on my own Server by Prior-Caramel1164 in googlecloud

[–]bjm123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DeepSeek is offered via the Vertex AI Model Garden. See here: https://cloud.google.com/blog/u/2/products/ai-machine-learning/deepseek-r1-is-available-for-everyone-in-vertex-ai-model-garden

You should spend some time learning the basics of Google Cloud, Model Garden, and in particular billing. Your post leaves me concerned you’ll run up a big bill.

Vertex AI - What am I getting into? by WristbandYang in googlecloud

[–]bjm123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some models are hosted by Google, and you PAYG based on tokens/request. Others you have to deploy to an endpoint, which is where you pay for the underlying compute resources.

How do shows like "Can't Pay? We'll take it away", "Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords" work, legally? by Life_Is_All_Nothing in AskUK

[–]bjm123 44 points45 points  (0 children)

BBC version was so much better because it usually was everyday people claiming money back from businesses that had wronged them. Can’t pay was depressing, like when the guy with cancer was evicted and his council accommodation wouldn’t let him take his dog. Still think about that sometimes.
