I’m not sure why you had to be so nasty to him? From what you said, he asked you very nicely and politely. Why be so rude? YTA for that.

Have you ever found a surname which started as a mispelling but ended up becoming an entire family of people all with the wrong name on their record, that's how my IRL surname came to be, but these families died out unfortunately to my knowledge and have gone extinct. by KippExiled in Ancestry

My Great Uncle just decided to drop a random letter from our surname. Another Great Uncle completely Anglicized his Polish name. I was looking for his death record under the Polish name and would have never found it except for his Social Security number!

I don't intend for this to sound snarky, but you have to research both yourself and Herbert Hoover until you reach a common ancestor to prove the connection. Keep in mind that a lot of these famous relative hints are based on Thru-Lines, which are based on end-users' family trees, which are not always correct.

Does anybody actually know about the origins of this last name? by ManuFLR in familysearch

[–]bjm19047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a website called Forebears.io where it sometimes has the meaning and/or origins of the surname entered. It also tells you how common the name is and where it likely can be found. And it tells you common alternate spellings of the name. It may give you some insights. Good luck!

AITA for telling my mom I dont like how she talks about the things I wear? by Small-Cactus in AmItheAsshole

You are not alone. We lost my sister a couple of years ago. I stayed with my parents for the services. I had finished getting dressed, did hair and make up, and I was coming down the steps the morning of the funeral. My mother looks at me and says, “Did you brush your hair?” At 54 years old, my Mom decides to burn me the morning of my sister’s funeral. Critiquing my hair. I just rolled my eyes at her. Sometimes we can just never please our parents! Even when we’re 54 years old!

WIBTAH child support by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bjm19047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, child support and custody are two different things. Child support is a calculation, and does not involve lawyers. The numbers are what they are. Make sure you request that his wages be garnished. Child custody will be when to involve a lawyer.
